Do Games Like 'Grand Theft Auto V' Cause Real-World Violence?

Forbes - Two events happened this week that many politicians and members of the media will link together. (Grand Theft Auto V, PS3, Xbox 360)

Really?

We're gonna have this discussion again?

I swear if it isnt women it's violence. The media wont be happy until the internet burns to ashes with all this flamebait. We just got over one fake controversy and we've had this discussion many times before. Give it a rest.

It's been proven over and over that they don't, why is it that nobody ever asks "Does playing FIFA make you a better football player?" or "Does playing Cooking Mama make you a better chef?"
The overwhelming majority of people hate violence, they go out of their way to avoid it so somehow watching or playing violent games is going to totally change the way people think about violence, literally flip their deeply held convictions on their head?
Let me explain something about violent men, they don't often play video games, they are usually out imposing their will on some other person or getting into bar fights just for the hell of it.
I like the logic in the line "If video games had the power to influence people's thinking then 80% of the people who use Facebook would be farmers already"

The answer is YES ... and that violence is present when gamers are outside the stores desperately waiting to get their hands on that incredible piece of game! ;)

Yawn...
Of course they do. In fact just after I played last night I went on a killing spree in my neighborhood. I then proceeded to use copius amounts of mind altering drugs then went and stole the goodyear blimp and went on a joyride.

My god, GTA V is awesome!

Violence has been happeneing way b4 vid games even existed. Yu can't blame psychos on video games man. If for anything these games keep potential trouble makers indoors even

So just because 1 idiot watched Fast and Furious and decides he could do some crazy crap behind the wheel, does that mean we should blame TV and Movies and try to ban those too??? Blame the idiot!!!

Movies, Games, TV all portray violence, and crazy stunts. If your stupid enough to try it for yourself then you should bear the punishment, not the rest of us.

No where near as much violence as Religion (Which people think is good) causes.

Yeah I mean every one of the millions of gamers playing it right now just cant fight that urge to go out, smash someone's head off a steering wheel, throw them to the curb run down several pedestrians and shoot up entire squads of police.

I'm thinking of tonight and going with the ol classic and picking up a hooker then beating her with a baseball bat to get my money back.

No, but in the hands of mentally incapable, very immature, or people who cannot differentiate between reality and fantasy it can encourage.

However, they should not be playing these games.
