OLED or Not, the New PS Vita Seems Fine

Kotaku - You might have seen the comparison pics—or even the video. The new PS Vita slim features a LCD display instead of an OLED display. But you know what, it's no biggie.

I've been able to play with the new Vita this week in Tokyo. It's not a bad redesign at all. In fact, it's pretty good. (PS Vita)

yes, new one looks fine. Still I am happy to own the old one. It is broader, heavier and was more expensive, but I can tell myself at least it has OLED.

I'm happy with the current vita as well.

I am a little bit envious of the lighter and thinner part though, as many times I will carry my Vita in an ass pocket.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around those colours. Shouldn't they have at least tried to get red, green, and blue in there? Strange.

I wish they released those colors, like the ones shown when the 1001 was released. Look at those, so much better than the 2000 colors. That purple, orange and green are awesome.

I agree though, I really don't like any of the new colors, they are all so bland and remind me nike shoes or something. I wanted a green vita so badly but I don't want the military/forest green one. Not the kind of eye popping slimy green I was hoping for.

So sadly I am just going to get another black one. Was excited hearing about the new colors, not so excited once they showed them.

I wanted that neon green one shown a long time ago. I also don't like how they are two toned, color on the back and either white or black on the front.

OLED ps vita's has black spots...try to play on a very dark room and you'll notice it, LCD is much better

I play mine in the dark all the time as my gf is sleeping not sure what are you referring to.

Hmmm... you'll notice it when a black loading screen is shown. Not a big issue though...

Same here, Transporter47.

It's something I would have noticed, too. I've never heard about this before this post, so maybe it was just a certain batch or something?

i noticed it too on the loading screen of uncharted, but never during gameplay so it doesnt bother me at all

It is called the mura effect and every OLED screen has it. It is only visible during completely black scenes and you will never notice it during any game play or actual use of the screen. It usually only seen when the screen displays a default black during loading screens or just being all black before starting a game or something.

Even in some instance where games have blacks coded in, you won't see it during game play. It is only in that default black is when it will show.

If you are seeing spots on your screen during actual game play or regular usage, you have burned in your OLED some how which isn't easy to do.

Of course its going to be fine, now if you want that OLED get it now its the same price as the LCD, if you wait you're going to miss on having that beautiful OLED though :P. I prefer OLED to LCD but they had to lower the cost of course they lowered to a cheaper screen but LCD screens are good maybe not OLED good but they are good.
