IGN's Top 25 Wii U Games

Nintendo's Wii U may have had a rough first year on the market, but we've still identified 25 great game recommendations for the system. Of course, it's easy to look at the Wii U's iffy first year and expect to be unimpressed, but when you take a step back, you'll see that Nintendo put together a solid first and third-party software lineup despite not porting over major third-party games like Madden NFL, BioShock Infinite, and Tomb Raider.

As a troubling software drought comes to an end, players can look forward to some refreshing games this fall. And when you see a lineup that includes Rayman Legends, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Need for Speed Most Wanted U, and Splinter Cell Blacklist alongside Zelda: Wind Waker HD (which just missed the deadline for inclusion in this list), and The Wonderful 101, you start to see a variety of genres that Nintendo needs to keep going into 2014.

Without further ado, here are the top 25 Wii U games.

The story is too old to be commented.

the title should be top 25 games you will never play.
Hope someday Nintendo will go the Sega route, never will waste my money on another Nintendo console after the gamecube and Wii each offered less than 3 games I enjoyed

smoothdude1831d ago

Does it even have 25 games?

Concertoine1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

simply put, you're not looking hard enough. i consider the wii and gamecube both to be lacking in games and i have 25 apiece for both of them. and thats not even a complete collection for either...

yellowgerbil1831d ago

I said ones I like.
gamecube only like RE4 and MGS TS and Tales of Symphonia
Wii liked bowling... that's about it. paper mario was decent

Concertoine1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

well no more heroes 1 and 2, madworld, xenoblade, last story, resident evil darkside chronicles, dead space extraction, silent hill shattered memories, fatal frame 4, metroid prime trilogy, zack and wiki, house of the dead overkill, okami, and arguably the best nintendo first party line up since the snes.

question, why do you want nintendo to go the sega route if you don't like their games in the first place? i dont see how the almighty ps4 can make games you just plain dont like any better, if i didnt know any better i'd say you were just wishing blind doom on a company you dont like.

yellowgerbil1831d ago

Honestly Nintendo first party has become generic to me. The same few games over and over.
I grew up on Mario and zelda still consider Mario 3 to be the greatest game ever made.
But the series doesn't really do it for me anymore, not sure what it is but the sparks not there. It's not that I lost interest. I still have a NES and play Mario 3 and Dr Mario from time to time.
And Bought the Wii for No More Heroes, didn't like it at all, controls were a turnoff for me.

Concertoine1831d ago

Yeah, i personally disagree but that's your opinion. That still doesn't explain why you want them to "go the sega route". If you don't like their games why would you want them to be on even more systems?

Chrischi19881831d ago

"the same few games over and over again" lol

really, you can say that for the whole genre of FPS. With a few exceptions, but not if you play them online...

Nintendo has more money in the bank than Sony, so that will never happen. Nice try Sony Drone ;)

lol I own a wii U and there is no 25 games....ports from 3-5 years ago don't count neither should dl games and mini games and remakes

Neonridr1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

lol, you guys are all alike, I bet you considered Black Ops 2 and AC3 old ports too right? I mean AC3 came a whole 2 weeks after the PS3 and 360 versions, and Black Ops 2 was a whopping one week later.

Tell me when a Sony or MS 1st party game sells anywhere near what a Nintendo one does and I'll take you seriously.

Oh and Nintendo has a grand total of 2 HD remakes if you count Wind Waker and the new Wii Sports Club. How many HD remakes does Sony or MS have?

AbortMission1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

So delusional Lmfao.

"Tell me when a Sony or MS 1st party game sells anywhere near what a Nintendo one does and I'll take you seriously."

Gran Turismo 5 - 10 million

Halo 3 - 8 million

Put that into perspective with Mario

Super Mario Galaxy - 11 million

Mario on a system with the highest sales numbers can still barely etch out sales over PS3/360 exclusives - which both had smaller install bases and higher attachment rates at the time of game release

The only high selling Nintendo software is Wii casual shovelware and Mario Kart Wii - which was bundled with Wiis for a good 3-4 years IIRC Lol

"Oh and Nintendo has a grand total of 2 HD remakes if you count Wind Waker and the new Wii Sports Club. How many HD remakes does Sony or MS have?"

Tell me when Sony/MS start charging $50 for an 11 year old game Lol

Yep1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

Love how abortmission purposely left out Mario Kart and the rest of Nintendo's 20-30+ million sellers.

But, ya gotta troll what ya gotta troll.

Maybe Sony should start making better HD remakes. Maybe then they could charge $50.

Yet when someone says the same thing about the vita they get bashed on.

AbortMission1831d ago

Because Vita actually has games despite what you drones say Lol

Chrischi19881831d ago

Yeah, what games? The Vita is a fail and its direct concurrence is far ahead, so vita failed big time. Wii Us time is still to come, but for Vita it is over. OK, you have a lot of integration on the PS4, but really now, since it is not bundled with the console itself, it will be a mere gimmick for the console, just as its cam. And if you buy the cam and a Vita for your PS4 and then get a game, you will end up at about 600$, probably even without the cam around 600$, so you get the same as what the Wii U offers for 299$.

Nintendo have to realize that selling a console for $300 to play side-scrolling platformers is a tough task.

Make that Mario Galaxy 3

Neonridr1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

I figured it wouldn't take much for the trolls to be out here in full force. Regardless if some of the launch games were ports of older games (ME3, Tekken, Batman) does that not mean they are not worth playing? I never played Arkham City, so does that mean I should just skip it because it released on another system? Fortunately I have a 360 so some of those older games I could play previously if I wished, however not everyone is so lucky to own multiple consoles. A AAA game is a AAA game, regardless if it's released 6 months after on another system.

The Wii U has tons of games that are worth playing - ZombiU, New Super Mario Bros U, ME3, AC3, Batman: Arkham City, Black Ops 2, Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Lego City Undercover, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Pikmin 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101

That's 15 just off the top of my head, I am sure there are more. Not to mention Wind Waker is 2 weeks away (unless you want it digitally in which case it is available in 2 days).
