Following that announcement of Atlus' Purchase by Sega, Atlus itself released a statement of its own by Consumer Software Director Naoto Hiroaka, promising continuity and looking forward to new challenges.
Let's hope the press release is more than just an initial promise. Sega and Atlus, on paper, sound like a great fit, but a smooth transition can't be guaranteed given how volatile the game market has been in the past few years.
It's sort of good news. On the one hand, seemingly neither Nintendo or Sony players get screwed over and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem should still be in the works. On the other hand though, SEGA don't bother to localize a lot of things and we don't even know what platforms Atlus' games are going to be on... I just really want Persona 5 on Vita If the next Atlus game is on smartphones... http://25.media.tumblr.com/...
I don't care. I just want P5 on my Vita or PS4. If they can guarantee that, then my money is already theirs.
Well good for Sega on the acquisition. Hopefully everything transitions smoothly and this proves to be a fruitful partnership for Sega, Atlus, and fans alike. Sega has been making some good acquisitions recently, having also picked up Relic not long ago.
The problem with all these articles is that it's actually Sega Sammy. Which if you google it. Will soon find it's not Sega. It may be a part of the company. But it's functions are primarily independent.
All i want from them is a online multiplayer bomberman for PC .
Sega... shieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeet. I think i'm gonna cry. we'll be lucky if Persona 5 comes over seas.
I wanted to agree with you at least 30 times. Sega is primarily a profit margin company. Meaning (pay attention folks), their algorithm requires that a game projects a higher percentage above profit for localization than Atlus. ...regardless of the fact that the game will return the investment. Sheeeiiit! Indeed!
sega wont waste their money sega has changed ( for the better )
why do i get a really bad feeling about this.....dammit...sigh
Merger are not good IMO. Square enix *cough*
Square Enix has made some spectacular games.
I agree Final Fantasy 12 was incredible
but FF12 was probably the only decent game that was made by Square-Enix in like 7-8 years and even then, it wasn't that good. The story was prettty bad and the main character was just random and irrelevant.
@wishing Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, Type-0, A Real Reborn etc... don't let your hate of Final Fantasy XIII get in the way of other amazing projects by Square Enix (I actually enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII but whatever) not to mention SE published Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex Human Revolution & the Tomb Raider reboot
@torchic: Crisis Core, and Birth by Sleep were decent, but that's it. SquareEnix has STILL not matched the quality of games that SquareSOFT made. They haven't even come close.
great move sega i am sure they will provide a great environment for atlas to work probably now bring sonic to the PS4 ( soon )
That is if they even give Atlus an environment to work in.
yeah sega is a great place to work in and i am sure they bought them ( atlas ) to provide originality its that simple they are interested in their work
Umm where is the originality at then? Every game we want over here has not been localized. Valkyria Chronicles 3 Yakuza 5 & HD Collection Phantasy Star Online 2 Hatsune Miku Project Diva f on Vita And plenty others I'm sure. But I barely see anyone requesting a new Sonic because we don't need to. It's all they keep feeding the West.
Isn't Sonic tied up on the Wii U with some exclusivity deal? If you want Sonic soon, think you might be best off buying a Wii U if you haven't already of course! As for Atlus. It can be good or bad depending on how much SEGA get involved into Atlus's affairs. We know Atlus as a standalone were profitable under Index. So left alone they could slowly make a profit for SEGA. But i don't think that will happen. I'm expecting SEGA to focus Atlus in certain markets/devices and even try cross-branding (SEGA characters in Atlus stylised games). All of it not released in the West of course :D
i know 3 games only and i dont have a wii u 1- mario and sonic ( Olympics ) . 2- sonic lost world . 3- still not announced but it feels like it will be a racing game. after that sonic will come to my beloved PS4 ok about atlas sega paid money for something good so they can provide better games look at the most recent sega purchases you will notice that sega doesnt interfere and i am sure sega will do the same with atlas i mean its a game development company no need to worry . they know how to run their business sega became aggressive and they want to succeed unlike lets say 5 years ago so its not only sony who wants to rise .
The last good game from Sega was in 1998. Edit: Actually, Skies of Arcadia was good...whenever that was released.
As long as they let the Persona dev team do their thing... Still, Sega did publish some nice stuff on ps3, like Tri-Ace's Resonance of Fate, so the future doesn't look so grim! :)
Translation: God help us
As a fan of japanese games, and not interested in the western garbage. This is just horrible, might as well just quit gaming at once.
What do you mean western garbage? all i really play is Japanese games but cant deny the west has fantastic games.
95% of my Nes, Snes, PS1 and PS2 libraries are Japanese games but this gen it was mostly western games because the truth is that Japanese game development went down the crapper.
But the vast majority of western games weren't any better.
just do ur thing atlus, dont mind SEGA! ^_^ lol
Sega building up it's properties and studios to make a comeback powerhouse console! Oh yeah! (I can only dream)
I hope Sega don't bring Atlus down with them if they, very possibly, crash. Also I hope they have little to no influence on Atlus' creative process.
No, no. Let them crash. SEGA being bought (including Atlus) is the best we can hope for.
Sega don't screw us up. Keep it up to Atlus to control Atlus! Thanks for picking them up after their little fall. ^~^
Ugh Sega =_= .. for those who do not know, THEY ARE THE MOST STUBBORN IN LOCALIZING. God help us, I just hope Atlus' future projects becomes worth the investment for damn Sega to localize it. P.S. people say some of these guys are racists. As may have all heard in the past, Phantasy Star Online 2 banned a lot of foreign players for no reason at all.
Fortunately, ATLUS had their own western hide that does localization. With any luck, they shouldn't need anything from sega.
I hope so! I don't want to sound pessimistic though but localizing and publishing the localized game are two different things T_T .. and I'm sure as hell they'll need to rely on Sega on that part..
That is only if Sega keeps Atlus USA and continues to let them do their thing. Sega just has a knack for not localizing their games and it goes back to the Saturn days. There is a reason we never saw Sakura Taisen 1-4 during the heyday of that JRPG. Sorry bro, I just do not have any confidence in Sega when it comes to localization.
Not only in localizing, but they're becoming worse and worse in the gaming industry as well. They keep releasing bad games after bad ones, and for some odd reason they've been involved-in many scandals such as the YouTube one where they brought down videos of the old Shining Force, or something along those lines; it's almost ridiculous.
I was one of those victims. It's the lead of the new Shining series, that's bitter at us for hating his games, and continuing to play the old (Camelot-made) ones. I'm being completely serious. That's the sad part.
OMG NNoo not Sega I just died inside. They suck at bring games over. Sega don't forgot you have people over here who love some Atlus games...please
Sega, just don't touch anything Atlus makes and you'll see profit. Dude, it's like a hostage for gamers now D:.
I swear if they don't localize Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, etc.... ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) (ﾉಥ益ಥ)ﾉ ┻━━━━━━━┻
I think I would cry..
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOo. OMG, why did Sega have to buy Atlus. Out of all the companies in the world, out every single one, why Sega. I mean I was pretty sure Sony would have wanted you or even Microsoft, why Sega. I understand money is important, but so are franchises like Persona that are never going to EVER come out again because of this decision.
If i was sega i would NEVER localize a JRPG. The reason for that is amaericans dont enjoy these sort of games. They want gore and swearing and guns such as, call of duty. Thats what appeals to them. Thats why its a good decision to not release it in the west
Well I'm glad you aren't Sega cause that would be terrible not to release any JRPG's in the US. Sure maybe JRPG's aren't big in the US but a lot of people enjoy them not every American just likes shooters they like all kinds of different games.
Dude I'm an American and I enjoy JRPG's more so than shooters and a lot of other genre's
I'm not American but I'm Canadian I also enjoy JRPGS a lot more than shooters, I just find them more fun and you can play them for a long ass time too my Persona 4 play time is well lets just say I spent a ton of time in Inaba.
Sure a guy named Murad is an American ... sure. I know what im talking about since im of the same ethnicity as you
Persona 5 please don't touch it Sega let Atlus do their own thing.
My fear with Sega now in control of Index/Atlus is that are they gonna treat this company like they did with their last partnership ala Platinum Games. Platinum made some great games under Sega only to have them squashed under the inability to properly promote these games (Bayonetta/Anarchy Reigns) as well as Resonance of Fate & letting that game be the sacrificial lamb to the juggernaut FF13. Also Sega has been keen on milking their Sonic franchise while letting their other IPs to die a slow painful (for the fans) death. As a fan of Valkyria Chronicles my disgust for Sega treating this series rips at my heart. Please PLEASE GOD PLEASE don't let Sega treat one of my precious series like Persona the same way they have treated Valkyria Chronicles!!!!
Maybe you should have bought Atlus ;)
I wish! If i owned a multibillion dollar corporation i would've made a bid for them. Sega was my last choice to buy Index/Atlus. I was rooting for someone like Kadakawa Games or Gung Ho. Now all i can do is pray to God Sega does the right things in handling Atlus. Cause i probably can speak for all fans of Atlus if they do not there will be hell to pay.
...I hope this is not like Square Enix.
hope they make good games for PC...
Sega has a problem with having games people want and not releasing them and releasing garbage no one wants every year.
