Grand Theft Auto V Smashes Pre-Order Records

"GTA V is a fitting tribute to the the seventh console generation and the game is set to break all sales records when it launches tomorrow. At the time of writing, GTA 5 is a matter of hours from release in the US and has seen busy midnight launches across Europe.

VGChartz estimates that total worldwide pre-order figures for Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have reached unprecidented levels. Our data shows that the game has more than 7 million pre-orders worldwide breaking down to around 3.7 million for the Xbox 360 and around 3.4 million for the PlayStation 3.

Sales for the day one are expected to reach more than 10 million units and this number could grow to 14-15 million units by the weekend. To put that number into perspective, the current record holder, Call of Duty: Black Ops II sold just under 11 million units in its first five days on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Stay tuned to VGChartz for the latest GTA 5 sales updates as more data becomes available and see the GTA 5 Wiki for more information about the game."

Wow, bigger than Black Ops 2?

trunkswd1495d ago

It is certainly possible. People have been waiting a long time for Grand Theft Auto V.

Is it any surprise that a game with better quality, longer development absolutely destroys yearly trash? I hope not.

GO R*! Show em how it's done!

I bet black ops budget is like ~10 times smaller

trunkswd1495d ago

It definitely is a lot smaller. GTAV has the biggest budget in gaming history.

I REALLY hope GTA V outsells COD this year. Even with COD being on what, 6 platforms including next-gen? GTA V deserves it.

trunkswd1495d ago

GTAV has an extra month and a half on the market and current Ghosts pre-orders are behind Black Ops II.

Tony-A1495d ago

I don't really see it being too far of a stretch, and I hope so, too. Isn't Battlefield 4 giving Ghosts a run for its money right now?

The only sad part is knowing that a steady decline in COD popularity (whenever that will ultimately be) won't result in Activision wanting to switch up the formula. I can see them doing just what they did with Guitar Hero when the music fad disintegrated. Or how they abandoned Nintendo after the motion fad went away.

trunkswd1495d ago

When the music genre was starting to decline I think Activision decided to milk Guitar Hero even more. I remember them releasing like 4 or 5 titles in one year.

Well deserved. Not saying there aren't talented people working on the cod games but this is the result of years and years of hard labor and dedication to bring us a game that people can try and try to mimic but often fall short. It's a unique game that stands apart from everything else and doesn't get rehashed yearly like cod

its been a while since the last gta and with the amount spent to develop this game..rockstar surely needs the sales to be huge..no other game publisher has spent this much on a game...

trunkswd1495d ago

The game will probably make a profit in its first week.
