Forza Motorsport 5 carries on the tradition of marketable console launch titles, but Turn10′s Dan Greenawalt reckons its much more than that, given its ambition and scope.
Yes. Why not? Innovative A.I- scoff all you want but the Drivatar system is actually a really clever idea. Having more human-like A.I is a big step forward. All Forza needed to do was release a new game with fancier visuals and better physics etc and that would be fine. But Turn 10 haven't rested on their laurels here. The Drivatar system, if it works, will be an incredible addition to the genre and will put other racing games to shame as far as A.I-controlled opponents are concerned. But no...some people think weather and night time racing are innovation. SMH
weather can be innovative if it actually changes properly through the same race and actually impacts the race so much that you have to completly change your game plan, i agree i think the drivatar system is innovative, i can see all games adapting this.
So I take it you're not really into racers, only defending the statements of a team the religiously lacks any humility? What's sad is how night cycles and weather have been around for years...
@IntheLab "So I take it you're not really into racers, only defending the statements of a team the religiously lacks any humility? " What? Because I recognise the importance of A.I and its implementation in racers, I'm not really into racers? Yeah great logic there. Whenever articles have popped up on here regarding the next-gen and what people want, A.I usually ranks the highest on people's list. And now that Turn 10 are putting a considerable effort into making improvements in this area, people scoff at them?? Weather and night cycles > Artificial Intelligence? Are you serious? I take it you're not really into racers.
I would rather have dynamic wheather and night/day that better AI. It's cool I guess but who rets a racing game for SP. No matter how good the AI is there's nothing like beating real people. I would rather see innovation in the stability and latency of multiplayer. I get that drivatar will make SP more interesting, but ultimately it's not going to make that much difference. Regardless other than drivatar, Turn 10 havent talked about the game at all really. Where's the rest of the innovation?
The Drivatar in some way record the way you drive, and do the same as a ghost rider even when u're not online. So if you drive like shit, your ghost will. How does it help someone online to improve his/her skills IF the ghost he/she is competing w/ isn't good enough. Normal AI in racing games helps to better your skills imo. With that Drivatar, you'll have a bunch of very average ghosts racers online. Anyway, it's not like I'm buying that game.
@slimeybrainboy " it's cool I guess but who rets a racing game for SP. No matter how good the AI is there's nothing like beating real people. I would rather see innovation in the stability and latency of multiplayer. " Whaaa? I hope you understand that Drivatars are based off of real racers, right?! You also realize if anything, Forza 5 at LAUNCH will have dedicated servers, right?? *faceplam* Self-sabotage, your passion destroy your capacity to think before you type.
"According to Greenawalt, Forza innovates in four areas - the graphics, the AI, the tyre physics and the multiplayer. For more all on the particularities, you may wish to read our impressions of the tracks, cars and Drivatars. You might also be interested in the procedural audio, which alters to suit the circumstances." I love it when people comment without reading the article....
Lol the graphics is innovative? GT6 can almost do what FM5 does. Physics? AI bullshit? multiplayer? Seriously?
Still a better argument than weather and night racing
the amount of times I've seen night and weather in the comments here is beyond hilarious. I thought it was a joke at first but lol, I guess that's really a negative in Forza. I don't get why people who don't play forza complain about features forza doesn't have. Go to the Forza forums right now - no one is asking for night driving. The point is to see and show off your cars, not be hidden at night. This is not Need for Speed or some street racing game where it "looks cool" to drive at night. As for weather, that would be cool - I'll admit that. But it's funny that's the only thing mentioned that doesnt seem to make it innovative. How do you completely ignore DriveAtar?
The same reason people complain about GT not having more car customization. ... except, NOT. Cuz day/night transitions and weather actually change how you DRIVE. The lack of visibility at night makes you more cautious, so unless you're a pro at the track and car you're using- and know the AI/other drivers of the game inside and out- you're gonna drive and put up different lap times than if it were during the day. Different weather means different tires, as well as a more reserved driving style. And if you're doing a longer race, then you may have a slightly damp track where you risk using your normal tires. The rain just coming in- as opposed to it raining when the race starts- poses the question of when to pit and grab rain tires. And as the track dries, the debate of when to switch back becomes an issue. As you can see, these two things have a HUGE impact on how you race. People complain about it because it seems like it should be expected by now out of one of the premier sim series out there. I mean, if we're being honest, GT has had night racing since the very first title(didn't really change much, though). Pretty much every other franchise out there has at least racing at night. And I can't think of another sim that doesn't have changing or at least inclement weather. Yeah, Driveatar is nice, but while Turn 10 was spending their time working on that, they left out things that are essentially staples of the genre.
@Blaze929 "The point is to see and show off your cars, not be hidden at night. This is not Need for Speed or some street racing game where it "looks cool" to drive at night. " The Point in GT, is to make the end user a better Driver! "The point is to see and show off your cars, not be hidden at night. This is not Need for Speed or some street racing game where it "looks cool" to drive at night" that may be that way for Forza, but its not always that way in GT! That's what not many on the "forza" is the best racing sim, just do not seem to get. Having your sim do thing's this or that is one thing, but when the core of the racing sim is to make that system sim great but its direction is everything but trying to make the end driver be a better driver, is exactly why FORZA will never be a driver Sim like GT! Let alone beat it. while Forza is a fantastic game trying to look at both as the same type of Game is moot, because Forza is not at its core a "real driving sim" GT is vs Forza is like taking a Arcade sim, and GT is like a driving prep testing sim for something like the BMV. the under score of each sim is not anywhere near the same design. trying to have them go head to head is moot, because they are not designed in their core Goals the same. @Bigpappy "How is Night driving and weather effects innovative. Has been done by many driving games for many years. As far as I know, wet roads are not ideal for high speed racing. So it is actually good that they not focus on that lack of fun type driving. " And this is exactly why Forza WILL NEVER BE LIKE WHAT GT is, yOU MAY THINK THAT'S EXACTLY wHY gt IS NO LONGER THE KING OF RACING SIM'S, but Again that is exactly why you would be wrong! Forza is not GT, its not better than GT..forza is Forza, just like GT is not Forza it is not better than Forza its GT. they each are their own Game once again trying to put them up against each other is Moot , because they are not at their core designed the same way for what they are each trying to do with each sim.
right..didn't i read something about Forza 5 not having weather or night driving?
How is Night driving and weather effects innovative. Has been done by many driving games for many years. As far as I know, wet roads are not ideal for high speed racing. So it is actually good that they not focus on that lack of fun type driving. @ Insomnia_84: Bad weather is fine in rally and arcade games, but no one is going to go out driving at 200 mph on wet roads. It is suicidal. Same for Drakesfortune. Who cares what Gran Turismo did. Forza is about fun challenges diving under ideal weather. The game is what it is, if you need bad weather so badly, there is GT6 on PS3 I believe.
"Done by many driving games for years" Except Forza. Gran Turismo has THAT, Rally Racing, dirt, snow, even Go Karts!!
so when it rains...do high speed races not go ahead because it isnt ideal? behave...it actually takes far more skill to race in bad weather conditions.
@Insomnia - I would rather have the custamization tools that Forza has than rain or day and night cycle...have you seen what people have created on Forza?
"How is Night driving and weather effects innovative" well if it's not that innovative why hasn't Forza 5 got it? A so called next gen game hasn't even got these lesser innovative features but it's innovative in other areas
@Big_B0SS with a console like the X1, they shouldn't have to pick one or the other. @Bigpappy unless you're a professional racing driver, no normal person will drive at 200 mph, unless its a long straight line. So why not add it into the game to change up the gameplay.
150% disagree with you bigpappy Formula 1 Endurance (Le Mans) Rally Aussie V8 all race at night and through the rain. in rally races case they race through rain, snow, and I believe there is some night time racing also. even boring nascar races at night, and in rain when its not like hurricane style rain. this is a next gen system day/night, and changing weather should be in this game period.
There's pro racing at night and when it's raining. Just check yt.
There is literally nothing at all innovative about this game. In fact, they TOOK away features.(Auction house) STILL no night racing STILL no weather.
i think the cloud drivatar system is innovative
@Ape ghost ai has been done long ago.Only difference is they attach the word cloud to it and say it's new @septic Did i say they were innovative features? I merely said they took away things, and STILL didn't add the basic things that it's competitors are doing (GT/DC) with night racing and Weather. Yet it's somehow innovative?
Night time racing and weather are innovative? But having lifelike A.I isn't?
@Septic Tried playing FM5 already? It's not going to be perfect. So don't call it innovative yet.
@Gamer Yes I have tried FM5
There is a reason why many forms of auto racing do not race in the rain or in the dark..... Unfortunately, those that know little about racing have latched on this night and weather racing bit in order to slate Forza.
@Septic In demos, but you don't have the actual game.
@ DayZ The auction house was a bit broken to be honest. Silly people trying to sell all the unicorn cars for $200billion. As for weather and time of day, yes I'm dissapointed that they choose not to pursue this in favour of graphics and resolution. 60fps was never at risk. I'd have taken 1600x900 upscaled to 1080p if i could have weather and ToD. They made a design choice or rather MS made it or them - make the prettiest launch game possible all other considerations secondary. For me the lack of those two features doesn't help the sim vs racing game debate. I have always considered forza a hard core sim if you play it with assists off, cockpit view and a wheel. This argument is harder to have now with GT6 fans when that software has these simulation features on lesser hardware. As a sim fan I'm hoping that F5 will make up for these omissions in other ways.
the best launch game imo is going to be KZ SF, i don't like racing sim but forza 5 looks fantastic for fans of racing, the cloud online system is innovative
I think it depends on what games you are into to what you think looks and plays the best. Im not intrested in KZ, COD, BF4 or any shooter the end of this year as I have been over run by them this generation and for me ive got Zelda Windwaker HD, Mario World, Sonic Lost Word, Donkey Kong, Pokémon X, Forza 5 and KI on pre order as these games look like the ones ill enjoy the most out of all the ones that are out the end of this year. Like I said each person likes there own thing and this is what gaming is about. No game or console is perfect and depending on the Art style ect you like depends on which game you think looks the best.
to me i want GTA V, mario 3d world, zelda and DK tropical freeze more than any nextgen game then after those comes KZ, CoD ghosts and watch dogs
Maybe the cloud will bring clouds, then we will see a weather system! :p OT I agree, sometimes you can be playing a racing game at off peak times, when you may want to be racing against your buddies. What better way to do it now with this new innovative feature in F5. If its really acurate as they say it is, and it depicts true driving styles, it would be fantastic.
+ Cloud system looks awesome - still no weather changes. Either way This game is going to be as awesome as it's always been! very much looking forward to racing the McLaren M23!!
I wanted to check the comments here because I thought I missed what made it innovative. Turns out they're just full of crap. In case someone didn't understand me correctly, when I was talking about being full of crap, I was talking about Turn10.
I love ignorance, it's amusing!
What's so ignorant about it? Half the comments here are about how they actually removed features. You can't take a step back and say you're innovative.
Static background, no day/night transition, unrealistic reflections and pre-baked lighting. 'Innovation' lol wut
Gt6 will be much better with the power of the ps4 fact
"Gt6 will be much better with the power of the ps4 fact" Funny, GT6 is releasing on the PS3 and not the PS4. So what is the fact?
And ps4 later next year so hush
But DriveCLUB has dynamic weather/day/night!
I don't care about drivatar and I would feel bad for my friends I would make them wreck all the time. I wanted weather and night racing, since the only reason Turn 10 did not put it in to Forza 4 was because 360 could not handle 60 fps with it. Now what is their excuse, because the only reason I can think of what is so Forza 6 has that 5 did not.
Seems like a decent game, might pick it up later on down the line if they ever bundle it with the console and remove the webcam thing.
The way Turn 10 talk places them in good company with M/S, I'm not being complimentary either. As for the meat and bones of what he was saying - it was totally contradictory, reading through it he is jumping from pillar to post trying to claim everything. I never did like the Wanker.
People are shocked by this? Really? You think a development team is going to say something like "Our game is just like Forza 4 with better graphics and AI" No they wouldn't so this isn't news.
Knack says Hi
Really?? of all the launch titles Forza 5 is pretty much the most unimpressive title on either system IMO excluding Knack it seems too simple to me. Apart from drivatars I really don't see how it's innovative. It seems more safe than innovate especially for the fact it's just downloaded data as supposed to the real-time computing MS have been talking about.
An innovative game that has a 5 attached to its name, sure.
