Sony Confirms Vita TV Not Ruled Out For US. But Will It Work Outside Japan?

CCC Says: "A comment from Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House, which had been misconstrued to suggest Japanese exclusivity for the company’s new console, PS Vita TV, was today addressed by SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. Curtailing the overblown and misheard quote, Yoshida tweeted out: “For people wondering about PS Vita TV outside Japan, we are just saying now ‘PS Vita TV releasing first in Japan’.” Tacked onto the clarification were the enticing words, “Stay tuned,” suggesting that more news for Vita TV’s release schedule is on the way. Then again, Sony simply testing the system’s viability in Japan—a test which it has surely passed, having already sold through its Amazon Japan stock—is still plausible. Regardless, North American and European gamers were clearly dissatisfied with the micro-console staying in Japan, meaning gamers in other regions want to buy a Vita TV. The question is, how many? Does PS Vita TV have a viable target market outside Japan?" (PS Vita, Sony, Tag Invalid)

It will in due time. Remember this is Sony (electronic company not just the Playstation wing) weapon in the war of cheap multimedia players. They are trying to take market share away from Apple and Google. To do that they will need to release it everywhere (within reason). I say some time next year we will get a release date (got to concentrate on the PS4 launch)

given the state of the economy, it most certainly will IF they push it out there as a $100 console parents can get their hands on for their kids. $100 console $40 games new, plus a crap load of cheaper indie games. it would be stupid not to. all they have to do with marketing is show the graphics with Most Wanted KZ uncharted, the kids games, the load of indie games, mention the ps4 functionality with the ps4, and then the price. bing bam boom.

You forgot about the amount of free games with PlayStation Plus. I know that's an extra cost but if they are using it to stream the PS4 then you'd assume they already have Plus for online play if nothing else. Plenty of top class Vita games have been offered through Plus.

i didnt forget, i thought about mentioning it, but decided not too, i wanted to keep it at $100 , but its deff a plus they should mention the instant game collection no doubt.

Japan gets Vita TV Q4 2013, and the EU/NA regions get PS4. Sony will see both of their new consoles work in opposite parts of the world, then be able to apply the successful marketing tactics learned to the opposite in the coming months/years. Meanwhile, the original Vita will cry in a corner with its blindingly superior (to the Vita 2000) screen.

I want one now! At the same time I buy my PS4. I want to be able to remote play my PS4 games within my house.

If I have to, Ill import one. Just waiting on actual word to whether or not it'll work and support English.

Simple answer is YES, if they market it right.

If Apple TV can sell 13 million and the Vita TV matches it's features and plays games then sure why not? After all I can't think of anything Apple TV has that couldn't be done by Vita TV e.g. on demand services, streaming media from computers & YouTube. The last two aren't confirmed but if the Vita can do it then why not the TV version? Providing the price conversion put them at a similar cost of course.

I'll take one, and never look back. I'd love to be able to transfer a game session over to another TV when my wife's friends come over.

I hate having them all look at my like I'm a total f'n geek, because I'm pawning multiplayer and not willing to let the streak die. This will freakin rule.

PS Vita tv for America please.

They shouldn't release it into markets where the PS4 is selling until the Dualshock4 and Remote Play support is ready.
joeorc  +   755d ago
they already confirmed its coming to the US because Andrew House stated Ahead of its "Global" launch...!

North America and the UK are part of a "Global launch"

Will it work?

Is that asking if it will be successful, or if it will function?

Success is never guaranteed. It MAY take like wildfire here in the West. I can see a device that combines your gaming and makes it that flexible as being pretty popular, especially with the right price point.

As for if it will function, I highly doubt they'd sell it out here and have it not WORK.
