Indie Developers Are The Future

In order for the game industry to survive the next 10 years it is going to need the help of independent game developers. The industry needs their originality, their creativity and their raw passion. Without it the industry will remain stagnant and eventually find itself becoming irrelevant. (Dev, Industry, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One)

The consumer usually decides who stay and who goes. The most successful Indie's will be the future AAA Dev's.

think about these games then...Journey, Bastion, minecraft, walking dead. i guess we should find a name other than "indie" cause there are established studios that are very very small that benefit from something like kickstarter

Indie devts will play an important role in the industry no doubt. Are they the future though? No...

Indie devts can't make Call of Duty, Killzone, Gears of War, God of War, Halo, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Final Fantasy, Dead Space, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Battlefield, Deadrising, Unchartered etc. They simply would not get the backing and don't have the capabilities.

It is like music and movies. Indies play a role there too, but they are not the future.

You do realize that a lot of these games you mention were created by studios that all started out as small independent developers.

im glad indies cant make call of duty, killzone, halo, mass effect, battlefield. No more shooters, please

Absolutely. Go to Kickstarter and see some of the games they are coming up with. Some are truly fantastic ideas that I can only hope gain the funding they need.

There's even a sequel to River City Ransom there! How awesome is that.

Yes, they start as indies, but they grow up and require a lot more capital to create their games.

Big publishers have that capital not indie supporters.
