Oh Look. Another Gorgeous Indie Game On The PS4.

Pavilion is a game that, having been first announced last year for phones and PC, will now be making the jump to Sony's PS4 (and Vita!) "sometime next year".

Described by the two-man dev team as "a fourth person exploratory experience about guidance, influence and subliminal control", it's got some stunning hand-drawn art and a beautiful soundtrack by Tony Gerber.

Eonjay3880d ago

Was scheduled for PC and phones but then:

"Interestingly, Pavilion's site now only makes mention of the PS4 and Vita editions. We asked the devs if that means the other platforms' versions are done for, and their response was "All we can say at this point is that it will be launched exclusively on PS4 & PS Vita."

They are going after the best of the best of Indie. Again this only make the PS4 and VTV look better and better.

Not sure why people are hating on indie but Im looking forward to it. I played alot of indie. Games this gen, they are so refreshing to play and outside the box.

cleft53880d ago

I think I brought more indie games than I did AAA games this year.

mewhy323880d ago

To be honest I never really paid much attention to indie games until there was the big to do about it for next gen. I realize that i've been missing out on some really creative stuff.

Shang-Long3880d ago

Mewhy is never to late, seriously some of the games are just really great.

Thehyph3880d ago

My vita memory card has piles of indie games on it. My personal favorite was probably Hotline Miami. I have no desire to play that game on ps3 or PC. It just seems like it's an absolute perfect fit for vita.

kayoss3880d ago

I agree. Its a very great change of pace from the "Hard Core" games. Game like Journey and Papo and Yo was very refreshing.

Indie development offers some unique things when compared to AAA. The developers are required to fall under the money men most of the time, but at the same time, they are almost forced to make something unique to stand apart from the AAA. In many cases, it can be refreshing, but just like retail games, there are some turds among the bunch.

At the beginning of this generation (PS3/360), I remember a LOT of gamers shunned downloadable titles and thought they weren't as good as retail titles because they were cheaper, and in most cases smaller in scale. But games like Journey, Limbo, Joe Danger, Papo & Yo, Flower, Braid, Castle Crashers, The Binding of Issac, etc have proven that just because something is smaller in scale (sometimes bigger), and doesn't cost $60 out the gate, it doesn't mean it can't be amazing.

But I still see people bitching about indie games... saying they want more triple A for the PS4. But there will be plenty of AAA, just because Sony is supporting indie, it doesn't mean they're making less AAA investment. It just means more games.

The wealth of amazing indie games on the Sony platform is going to be really mind boggling.

FamilyGuy3880d ago

So they basically aren't going the self-publishing route. Sony's helping them with the game (publishing it) so it's become a playstion exclusive.

Added benefits included: Help from Sonys 1st party studios with development, marketing paid for/done by sony, a decent budget so the devs vision can be realized.

Eiffel3880d ago

Can't really call it an indie game then if they're not going the self-publishing route.

FamilyGuy3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

More like they are indie developers making a PSN title. So true, no exactly an indie game anymore. Hopefully, though highly expected, they'll get to keep their creative vision in tact.
One of the things negative about going to some publishers is they tend to want to change your game so it's more marketable. I've read many times that Sony is much more accepting of a devs creative direction/intent though.

RedSoakedSponge3880d ago

PS Vita should be added to the tags :)

Seafort3880d ago

Yay another indie dev selling out to consoles!

And console gamers wonder why PC doesn't have any good games left? This is why!

thehitman3880d ago

PC doesnt have any good games because its a very niche market. Indie games for the most part are all singeplayer games with unique gameplay and experiences. Consoles cater to that much better than PCs ever will. Its not selling out to consoles its just choosing to put your game on the better platform your game will sell on.

_QQ_3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

yes and only console fanboys who like to talk down pc wonder that because they wouldn't know otherwise, but how would you know? you don't game on PC. Ignorance is bliss i guess. @The hitman, consoles don't cater to people who want unique gameplay, unless its a nintendo console. There is a reason PC has always had the better indie scene, and why consoles don't get many good RTS, MOBA titles.

thehitman3880d ago

Consoles dont get good RTS because the control schemes for those games are not playable with the traditional Controller consoles use. PCs are good for pushing shovelware and hoping it becomes big because there is no regulation at all whatsoever. Now that there is less regulation on the PS4 you will see a lot more developers jumping ship to develop on hardware thats a lot more stable and has a commnunity you want your game to be aimed at. I could name a slew of games, genres that NEVER do well on PC and you will never see there. Also I hope you dont include games like farmville as "better indie scene". You will never get games like flower, heavy rain, tearaway, mgs, GoW, UC, dark souls, demon souls, GT I could go on with a range of genres and games from indies to large publishers that will never grace the PC. I game on PC more than I do on my console but by far my most precious gaming experiences were playing on consoles and its not even close.

_QQ_3880d ago

consoles don't get good RTS titles because the demographic isn't there for games with intelligent gameplay,Thats why halo wars ,despite having the halo name, didn't reach sales of the FPS ones, thats why the PIKMIN franchise barely sells, thats why the CC franchise barely sells on consoles, thats why up untill FE awaking, the fire emblem franchise didn't sell much. Facts are facts.

Consoles may have unique games every now and then but the best selling games on both platforms is call of duty,in fact pretty sure PS3 has 3 of its top 5 best selling games are COD.

goldwyncq3880d ago

All your indie games are belong to PS4.

Gaming_Guru3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

So is it ok for games to be on the PC and XBOX like Titanfall, and on the XBOX 360 it was an indie fest with games like Castle Crashers, Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Bastion, or The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai?

It's interesting when the table turns comments like this sprout up, at least this time around the indie developers that are getting first dibs are quality developers. It's like everyone forgot about Microsoft XNA where it was easy to develop for Windows PC / Mobile and XBOX.

Sadist33880d ago

Wow. Another indie game on the PS4. Great to know I'm buying a new console to play games that could be on my iPhone or ipad. They keep this up my new systems will be both collecting dust just like my PS3 is now. I remember when games were actually good back in the day.

thehitman3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

If your ps3 collecting dust your not a gamer just a sad troll.

_QQ_3880d ago

actually you are the troll.

Enemy3880d ago

Trolls calling each other trolls. This is so funny and pathetic!

As for Sadist3, the avatar fits you well. You have no games in comparison to the PS4. Every day a new game is announced for PS4. All you have is last gen Forza 5 doing pre-baked lighting and static backgrounds, glitchy QTE Ryse, and Killer Instinct by one of the worst developers out there, Double Helix. You have nothing.

MrDead3880d ago

Sorry to see you're so against the indies mixing with the big boys.

Perjoss3880d ago

You're not really a gamer, not to me anyway.

5h4h4b3880d ago

If your ps3 is collecting dust after getting all those amazing exclusives I can't imagine what would be the state of your x360 without exclusives for last three years. Probably you would have burnt it.

Advice: Troll harder next time.

Shane Kim3880d ago

I bet Sadist is sitting behind his computer screaming and raging haha. It's ok bro, just come over to the dark side, you'll see that Sony fans are really welcoming. No one will judge you ;).

Hicken3880d ago

So... not only do you get to troll Sony articles on the regular, contributing nothing(which is what makes a troll a troll), but you do so without even being marked AS a troll.

When games were ACTUALLY good? Because they all suck now? You realize those games "back in the day" were likely all indies, right? And if not when they made the games, that they once were?

Yeah, I guess that slipped your mind, huh?

Or is it that it doesn't matter, because you're trolling?

I began this 6-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $85 per hour.. Go this web and start your work.. Good luck.... http://tiny.cc/ww3opy
