I normally like Joe's reviews a lot, besides when he goes total fanboy like with Guild Wars 2, but this one is simply off target.

If you have to begin your review by telling how honest and unbiased you are, you know that your position is weak to begin with.

The game has problems. It's definitely not worthy of a high score, but a 5? No. Not in this world.

In this case it seems to me that joe allowed the difference between your expectations and reality get the better of him, which is a very bad standpoint to have when reviewing a game.

CaptainPunch3871d ago

I don't always agree with his reviews, but they are fun as hell to watch.

dannylilley3871d ago

He may have let his expectations get the better of him however all the reasons for giving that score are well evidenced. I think sometimes that people forget 5 is technically 'average' if you use the 1 to 10 score properly. Something that this game, from his stance of course, sounds like.

I haven't played it, not my sort of game, but it's still his personal opinion. If you don't agree then that's fair enough but a lot of people on the video seem to agree even if they only represent the minority.

5/10 are for games that don't work.

this works fine and is fun to play, even with the bugs, which will be gone soon enough.

What an ignorant review.

I find him annoying most of the time...but entertaining!

EDIT:

I think he has a shitty PC! I so far haven't come across those issues. But still patched it anyways for future hiccups. So far very smooth.

Only gripe...WHY NOT ADD ANIMATIONS?!

FogLight3871d ago

A 5?! Look, I know that the game is extremely bugged but a 5?! Rome 2 doesn't deserve that score. Just wait for some patches that will fix those problems then voila! It will be the Total War game everyone asked for... I hope at least.

dannylilley3871d ago

Anything that's EXTREMELY bugged deserves to take a big hit in score. If you watched the whole thing, which admittedly is long at 45 minutes, then he clearly states that this is based on the release build and patches may eventually fix it. He's nothing but brutally honest as a long time Total War fan.

FogLight3871d ago

That's what I respect about Angry Joe but I just hope that the score would change when the changes and fixes occur. This is just a big blow on Total War series in my opinion :/

Im currently loving Rome 2 yeh sure Bugs and this was defo not optimised right textures still not been sorted resolution toto help that. Also i found funny formations clash general dies quickly And frame rate is horrid with traps it can run when waiting for turns 1-20fps sometimes in battle very slow.
There the things ive noticed But havin stopped me loving the game they've taken ideas from civilization witch i love huge scale made things more clear to understand for certain people.
The on going patches will help im sure i wont lie they shud at least got the core bugs fixed first but hey they keeping us informed with weekly updates thats better than a slap in a face.
Btw. I just love the ship battles way my men jump on the other he he.
If you think my setup not good enough its not that.
Im running sandy bridge 4.7ghz. With 7970

4 famous games that completely butchered history

Bárbara writes: "History-inspired games have been around for a while and I’m pretty sure every gamer has come across one or two in their lifetime. And while they can be incredibly fun to play, their historical accuracy is often pretty shaky. Don’t get me wrong, in recent years developers have started to work harder to get facts right, but we’re still far from reality. Today we will explore 4 big games that butchered the chapters of history they are based on."

EA tried to market Battlefield 1 as an epic WW1 period piece. It was really just a hybrid of stripped down Battlefield 4 and Star Wars Battlefront (2015) disguised as WW1 shooter.

KyRo1335d ago (Edited 1335d ago )

I'm not sure what it was you played but it certainly weren't BF1. The campaign showing the different periods of the war through the eyes of different soldiers was a good way to show the harsh reality of a WW. Was it groundbreaking? No, but it was a good effort.

It also played nothing like SW and added a whole heap of things to the BF formula to simply be called a reskin.

Sciurus_vulgaris1335d ago

The “harsh reality” of WW1 was not shown by BF1. There is mission where the player is wearing tank-like armour that is repeatedly stated as being near impervious to damage. Metal armour existed in WW1, but was quickly abandoned as it wasn’t effective against bullets or explosives. Or the other reality breaking mission we’re you play as a man with superhuman speed....

BF1 streamed down the guns mechanics making all weapons easier to use. Classes were marginalized and team-play was stripped down. BF1 focused on chaotic gameplay with no emphasis on strategy, just like Battlefront. Reduced gun skill , again just like Battlefront.

So you you are telling me historically you cant jump off a ten story building into hay and live.

Unknown_Gamer57941336d ago (Edited 1336d ago )

Indeed. Ezio actually died in ACII when he jumped off that tall building in Florence. If I recall correctly, that one was actually a cart with a pile of flower petals. Everything that happened after that was him in the afterlife envisioning where life would have taken him had he lived. Clearly the guy had a grim view on his future...
