Hideo Kojima on MGS V: player choice comes first over story

The Metal Gear Solid series may be known for its strong focus on story, but Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima says that the #1 most important thing in Metal Gear Solid V is “player choice.” (Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, PS3, Xbox 360)

Oh dear... Not another Mass Effect please! So much for choice to then force the same ending on everybody.

Metal Gear Solid's mechanics are what makes the game great. Metal Gear Solid 4 was great, but the story was convoluted & there was far too much repetition. Seems this one is more like Peace Walker / 3, the best two in the series.

The part of the article that concerns me a little is where they state that Ground Zeroes is coming out on current gen consoles. While Phantom Pain is coming out on current and next gen consoles. What happened to both parts being part of the same game?

apparently ground zeros is like the snake tanker missions in mgs2 while phantom pain is raidens missions, not to certain though..

That is what I thought as well but this certainly says otherwise. I hope that they aren't released separately though. I want the whole experience on PS4 and I am willing to wait until it is released on the PS4. I really didn't plan on buying any of it for PS3 but now I may not have a choice.
I guarantee you that they will be sold separately and to be honest I am happy about that. Konami confirmed that there is a smaller MGS game coming out this year while the bigger TPP is coming out during the next fiscal year. I can only assume the smaller game is Ground Zeroes. Why don't you want that to come out this year?. We get to have a taste of MGSV if that's true. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want that.

MGS has officially lost its very essence.
Wow. Why don't you play the game first before making such a claim?.

I'M NOT CONFIDENT IN KIETHER SUTHERLAND THEY SHOULD JUST BRING HAYTER BACK OR SNAKE JUST WON'T BE THE SAME ANYMORE BIG MISTAKE!
People on here keep jumping to conclusions without truly knowing what any of this player choice stuff means. Kojima is not going to skimp on the story and character development I can assure you. Player freedom is going to be a big part of MGSV and players will experience a lot of story content and dialogue during gameplay which is what I was gathering from everything Kojima was saying. Cut scenes aren't going anywhere either but there won't be as many as MGS4. I trust Kojim 100%. He innovates with each MGS title an this is going to be the most ambitious one by far.
