Word from a SCEE press tour for LittleBigPlanet this week says Media Molecule has come up with something very special indeed in LittleBigPlanet.
"It's going to be the most important game ever," said an attendee. "It's just astonishing. "
i only bought PS3 just cause of littlebigplanet and MGS4 and im glad it's there the most important game ever meaning it wont fail.
I was like "meh...something for the kids I guess." Then I read about it and how deep and yet simplistic the mechanics were. Then I read about the level creating aspect and how you can share levels others have created. Then I read that you could duplicate a stage from Mario Brothers, Zelda, or even Metal Gear. Wow. I went from being "meh" to "day one purchase." This is why I buy Sony game consoles. The diversity is amazing. The fact that I can play this and then switch to Metal Gear, Killzone 2, and (hopefully this year) White Knight Chronicles is amazing.
GTA4, MGS4, GEoW for game of the year already. Honestly, I think LBP could be the sleeper hit that takes the stage this year. What game is as ambitious and innovative? I understand the other games I listed are amazing titles that have new gameplay mechanics but, they're still (to some extent) a rehashing of what we've seen before. Anyone played a game like LBP?
Don't get me wrong, i can see this game going far. But it really isn't on my radar. Its not my type of game. But i suppose there's still chance of being converted. Best chance is with an online beta or demo.
I agree. It's not on my current list of must have titles either but that may change after a demo.
and i hope that games will come out with Innovation like that.
game idea just like Little Big Planet.
just something I read last year. I think it was in a magazine. Sorry I can't remember specifics. But it didn't surprise me. I'm sure Ubisoft will show it at E3 and I wouldn't doubt it doesn't come out this winter so the 360 has the same type of game too
have a look here: http://www.gamespot.com/use... but i am not sure that they will be able to pull off something as ingenious as media molecule's LBP, at least in this year's timeframe...
then I wouldn't be surprised if Sony bought the studio.
LBP just oozes innovation and creativity, along with amazing physics and an excellent graphical touch. I hope for the sake of all videogaming that as many people buy this game as possible. You know we are in a sad state of affairs right now when someone tries to argue that a game like Gears of War has more innovation than a "kiddie game" like LBP, simply because it's on a Sony console.
The success of Playstation brand has always been due to the fact that they don't rely on a single game. It isn't THE game for the PS3. But it is important in a sense that it will help clear the way for what could be considered as next-gen user created contents. If this game is a hit Playstation brand will be praised all over the world for its user generated stuff and mods and openness and etc. But if this game fail to inspire well we still have God of War, R2, K2, MGS4, FXIII etc. etc. I know the game being successful helps them succeed but they won't be relying solely on this game. I am pretty much looking forward to this game. Lets see how it turns out to be.
and honestly I dont think it will be that crazy of a hit. It looks like a good idea/game but really doesnt appeal to me or any1 I really know. Good for them ppl who like wii type games, Sony is trying to expand their market again on the ps3 and suck in some wii ppl. @below its not just the controller that attracts wii-typle ppl to the wii. Its their dumb games that stray from a conventional type game that make them different/more unique. No ps2 owner will probably know about LBP unless it gets big and in order for it to get big the ppl with ps3 have to make it big first. Trust me most of the ps2 owners probably dont have a ps3 because they really cant afford it. No matter really what games out if som1 cant afford it they wont buy it.
that they're trying to attract. There's still 100+ million PS2 owners that haven't come into the next-gen market yet. And also, I don't think this would appeal to first time gamers like the Wii does since the controller is still an obstacle for them, which the Wii seems to have overcome.
I don't think this is a "Wii type game". The reason people are excited about this is that it's pushing into a whole new area of gaming, sure it kind of LOOKS like a side-scrolling platformer but it represents a new level of interactivity in video games. Creating objects that work within the games space and physics opens massive potential and could be the start of a totally new genre of game. It may not end up being that, but it's that potential that's got everyone buzzing and why this may turn out to be suited to both the casual and VERY hard core gamer.
did your paycheck from Sony arrive yet? Get real.
Is it because I'm excited about what has 'potential' of being a very innovative game? I'm excited about what Spore could do if it's done right too, so the PC crowd must be buying me drinks? Where's the harm in hoping for new and exciting things? I'm only trying to convey MY excitement about the game, we don't all have to resort to little snide remarks to make ourselves feel big.
Don't mind Agent 47, he's one of the more ignorant users here and wouldn't know a hit if it reached up and slapped his face. As for what you posted about LBP, you're dead on, it will be a hit no matter what the sales look like. It's innovative and creative allowing the end user to share their own level of creativity and has few barriers to being as creative as one would like. Very good idea and anybody that mocks it is simply expressing their hatred for the only system that the game will be available on.
Sl1m you don't know sh*t about me so shut the f**k up, mattnz isn't impressed with your d*ck riding.
if what the guy means is that Little Big Planet is important in the sense that it will break the mould and change gaming as we know it he's right- its pretty revolutionary but it might be too late, we're used to blockbuster action games and stylish racing games- and our most highly anticipated games are stuff like Gears 2 (blockbuster action game), MGS4 (blockbuster action game, although like Little Big Planet- its pure genius) things like that may never change but hopefully LBP can make a difference
WOW A CURSOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
Game Of The Year 2008. The critics choice at the very least.
Yep, you can hold me to that.
i disagree @ GOTY / Critics choice, it would be nice to see this game do well dont get me wrong as i'm all for creativity and innovation on ps3, but its not a game that appeals to me or (i would think) a large demographic of ps3 users, and i think a lot of ppl see LBP as nothing more than a "meh" game.
thats controversial i know and i'll doubtless pick up a ton of disagrees but i doubt sales will be anywhere near that of games like mgs4 & gta4 on ps3. i'll b first to come out and apologise if i'm wrong, but i just dont see it. sorry gents.
Thats fine, its your opinion. But like you said it might not appeal to the entire PS3 install base, thats why I said the critics choice, as if you read any single hands on preview you'll find they do nothing but rave about this game. Its seriously under rated.
I think you could be right about the sales, though I've been surprised before and I hope i am this time too. I'm really just hoping for a innovative game, if we get that then it is possible that the critical success may follow, even if the sales don't.
Should not make a game, GOTY. I don't understand how you can know how important innovation and creativity are yet you dismiss this game as Meh? I'm not disagreeing with you as it's your opinion but, I think you're being a little shortsighted.
Some will agree and some will disagree, I dont think this is " the most important game ever " METAL GEAR EFFIN SOLID 4 is!!!, nonetheless i'm getting this game as soon it hits the shelves
I don't know why this game hasn't had so much hype - maybe it's because not everyone is interested in it? With MGS4, you can say "omg there's a new mgs coming out and it's amaaazing", and need say no more. With LBP if you try to describe it, "it's a 2d platformer where you can build stuff", it sounds quite lame and you need to show them a gameplay video. Let's hope it can make its September release date.
I've been raving about LBP since I saw the first video releases, and so far, no-one gets what I'm on about til I show them the videos. As soon as they've seen it in action their opinions change completely. Well, apart from the hardcore FPS type fans. For those guys it just isn't shooty enough for them lol.
more like, "You ever play and like a Mario game? Well you can make your own Mario if you want with this game. You can add a timer. You can add enimies. You can make it team based. You can paste your own pictures into the level that you import. You can then share your levels online and have them rated? You can play other levels that people create. You can make a Halo level if you want. You can make a level dedicated to the beauty of your GF. YOU HAVE UNLIMITED CREATIVITY AND POSSIBILITES WITH TIHS GAME."
o i would think ff xiii. but lbp looks fun 2
They need to go so far as to install demo stations in stores where people can go and create levels or mess around with the game and then have other people play them who walk by. It would be a good way to spread the user content for people who haven't purchased the game yet, but are really curious as to what it offers.
haven't seen a demo station running anything other than launch stuff like Genji
i have to admit i'm now a little more curious than i was before, but thors description of the game is i think particularly telling of why the game isn't getting hyped up as much as you guys would like:
"it's a 2d platformer where you can build stuff, it sounds quite lame and you need to show them a gameplay video."
it just doesn't sound exciting: but heres to being proven wron.
I personally am with the guys who reckon a couple of tech demos are needed. if anything, that'll b the thing that turns myself and a few others around - assuming it really shows off the games potential., coz theres always the chance a demo can hinder as well as hype up a game.
they package this game in America as they did wit GTA4 overseas and wit MGS4 in Japan. In fact i should write them.....i really really reall think that'll be the smartest thing for Sony in september
They could make a create-a-sackboy contest and the winner gets a PS3/LBP bundle and their own customized sackboy. They'd make a nice gift for someone at the very least.
It looks pretty frikkin good, I will say that.
the game looks good and the idea is really fresh, but i am more of a hardcore gamer, i will still pick this up but i will not play it as much as other games, e.g gta4 is coming out and mgs4, haze, killzone 2, r2 ...e.t.c.....i just hope we can really make any thing in this game and will be abale to share our world online, cuz i got some crazy idea of a world....lol
when you get addicted to creating and sharing your own levels. You'll get to play and critique others as well. This game is great because it has an appeal to all types of gamers including the hardcore.
Everyones going to play GTA4 and MGS4. R2, killzone 2 and Haze are also gunning (like the pun?) for the main stream market (I'll own all these BTW). LBP IS a hardcore game. Making levels to suit your style and sharing them, making Bosses out of everyday objects and using the in built physics engine to bring them to life? in short making you own game within the LBP universe, it doesn't get much more 'hard core' than that.
If You have even ONE creative bone in Your body You will want this Game. I have Two so I am mad for it.
lbp and home are going to be doing some pretty sweet things together i imagine. and i'm sure insomniac is going to have a sweet time creating some awesome levels that we can play. can't wait for that. it's an awesome idea, a day one purchase, and how can you argue with a game that you can play forever and never play the same thing twice. you think the orange box was a good deal. i think 60 for a million different levels is a good deal. lol long live solid snake.
best next gen game period.
It's not going to be for everyone so I doubt that it will outsell any of the major franchises but I for one would love to spend an hour or two building an LBP level with my daughter. Having fun and goofing around while teaching her about physics and design principles would be well worth the price of a PS3 if I didn't already have one. Playing through a level that we created together would be a blast. There is so much potential for LBP to be more than just a "game."
Well for me at least. LBP just might. The importance of this game for Sony goes beyond attracting the casuals. It would be one of those games that define this gen for Sony like SOTC did for the PS2.
