How much is GTA V selling?

The gaming press is reporting that GTA V is the most expensive game ever made, with a marketing and development budget of around £170 million (or $265 million). The source is a Scottish newspaper called The Scotsman. There’s no way this information could be verified, but given the big budgets we’ve heard of lately, this is entirely possible.

The first questions that come to mind when you read this are something along the line of exactly how many units they intend to sell and how much money they are going to make this year. Lots of it, sure, but still let's see how much. (Grand Theft Auto V, Industry)

15-20 million within the first 1.5 years.

Another 5-10 million after the fact over the next 2-4 years after that.

Dude they've spent 260million on this game, if you figure at 59.99 times 6million equal 359 million and a decent amount of change. You already know GTA is gonna sell 6million easy, so there gonna make there money back easily. Question is how much? 59 times 20mil is 1.2 billion, that's a lot of money for a video game R*

@b163o1

Yeah, but Rockstar doesn't make $59.99 for every game sold. Some have speculated they'd at least have to sell 9 million or more to break even. No matter, they'll smash that in the first 6-8 months IMO. This game is going to destroy records, you can quote me. I bought the collectors edition and I am counting down in agony until my GameStop midnight release. Luckily for me I took the 17th off.

Gta IV has sold more than 22.5 million units. Gta V will top it, with the console base being double that than of when the time Gta IV released

R* doesn't get $60 per copy, part of that goes to the stores that sell it. I am not sure what percentage R* actually gets.

The article is updated to clarify that I was calculating the entire revenue generated.

50 million if they release on pc , ps4 and xbone.

Reading the article they will sell 1.4 billion US dollars in the first 3 months. I guess they expect the game will be successful. I certainly don't disagree with them.

Whoa, is the whole basis of his final figures on the Rockstar taking 100% of the profits fromt he sale?

Fail!

No, I updated the article. This is the entire revenue generated by selling the game and everything else around it, not what's Rockstar getting. It's still a huge number.

GTA IV was breaking records when it released so I have no doubt that GTA V will be sold much more than its predecessor.

I can already predict that I will see GTA V in Guinness World Records *thumb up*

Grand Thief Auto is one of the few games that can outsell Call Of Duty and I'm betting GTA5 will.... I'm buying the Special Edition and IF it comes out on Next Gen I'll buy it again.
