One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 Review: A Dynasty Improved - The Koalition

The Koalition writes: "If someone were to ask me to sum up Japanese anime in one sentence, I would have to read them the description of One Piece: "One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey, a boy whose body gains the properties of rubber from accidentally eating a supernatural fruit." That's all they would need to know to understand how creative, insane and utterly ridiculous Japanese culture is. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 is an accurate representation of the manga and anime, yet is dulled down by being 'just another Dynasty Warriors clone'. This however does not mean you won't have some fun along the way." (One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2, PS3) 60/100

Better than Ken's Rage?

I didn't review this one for our site and I don't know if that reviewer played Ken's Rage, but from what I have heard and seen of both games, I think it's really just a matter of preference. If you love One Piece, def play this one. If not, then you may prefer Ken's Rage.

Cool!

I liked the execution of the game and the usable characters it represented well what they could do in the anime. That said it could be better, a completely well crafted open world one piece game with similar fighting and rpg elements would be a dream .

I actually reviewed Kens Rage 2 and wasn't the least bit impressed by it. Game was highly repetitive and a bit boring at times to be honest. You can check out my review right here and see if you agree or disagree with me.

Dude, with this words, you made a wrong message for people who wants to know more about japanese anime / manga but doesn't like One Piece. Don't take me wrong though, i'm a big fans of One Piece but One Piece isn't the end of all stick to represented japanese anime / manga. Because there's Ghibli, Ghost in the Shell, Slam Dunk, Black Lagoon, Akira, Patlabor, Vagabond, etc etc that had different style and theme from One Piece.

For the review, well, it's the same treatment from all those years when the majority of western reviewer hated Dynasty Warrior style games.

Yeah im suppose to take him serious after being that bias. lol

Bias and unknowledgeable. If the writer want's to talk about what kind of japanese anime / manga is, than he should at least knew some titles beside One Piece. As example like your avatar, the legendary Lupin III (that's Lupin III right? cmiiw) that had unique style / theme compare to One Piece.

Yeah Lupin is my all time favorite comeday anime. I like One Piece too but like you said it doesnt represent all of anime. Anime has so many genres its not even funny. lol

Am i the only one irked that luffy was called monkey in that description ?

Your not the only one. I don't understand why he left the "D. Luffy" name or why not just type Luffy.

I've always felt that these games have a lot more potential than how they're being made. Might be true to the niche they appeal to.

But take Gundam games. The things you could do with such a universe, is huge. Yet, only a one or two games *which you cannot play on console, or outside of JP do this.

Naruto, One Piece, Gundam, Pokemon, Digimon... endless possibilities await. Hopefully, the beginning of a new gen, opens these doors.

probably cause the dumbing down some of these series would have to go through to become playable wouldn't do the show justice.maybe when the tech is capable and someone is able to execute it perfectly comes along . till the these musou games have to do.
