Why The Nintendo Holiday Is Boring, And Their Future Looks Scary

"Whether most of us (myself included) want to admit it or not, Nintendo has been flailing on the scene as of late. The lack of compelling Wii U software have gradually influenced the deflation of units sold throughout 2013, and with only the 3DS to shoulder the weight, it’s been a frustrating waiting game for those who have endorsed in the promise of the Big N into the next generation. Nintendo hasn’t been completely deaf to their situation though, and during a press release yesterday, made several announcements towards release dates, price drops, and their newest revision of the 3DS for the budget-minded consumer, or parent…and one has to ask if Nintendo has thought this all the way through?

The way I see it, it seems like it’s just more pandering in disguise, and pandering is one of the biggest factors that lead them down to this path to begin with." (3DS, Culture, Nintendo, Nintendo, Wii U)

Wii don't really want Wind Waker HD.
Wii played that on GameCube.
Wii want the Zelda HD shown in E3 2011.
That's what Wii want.

The game X and Bayonetta 2 looks great, wii need more of that as well.

Now before a bunch of Nintendo fanboys come here, disagrees with me and all.
I'm telling people what I want, I'm being honest with Nintendo.
At least I have the decency to tell them what they need to do in order for the Wii U to become a success.

Say what you want, but if you keep defending Nintendo for all the bad choices they make, then they'll never change, even their fails won't change because they would assume they're doing it right.

It's time people stop acting like fanboys, and start acting like consumers.
You, are the one who's supposed to tell the companies what You want, not the other way around.

I believe most people are tired of the same looking Miis that haven't evolve at all.
How is anyone supposed to be exited for the Wii U's Miis when they already got that on the original Wii. Think about it.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a ton of disagrees, but unlike you guys, I WANT Nintendo to succeed, That's why I'm being honest with them and telling them what most people want.

If you want to act childish and disagree with me, that's fine, unfortunately for Nintendo, they'll never really know why the Wii U failed this generation.

Your complaining about the Mii's really? have you been on the Miiverse? have you seen how diverse they are? They are supposed to be simple caricatures. Did you know know Microsoft plans on keeping the same Avatars for XboxOne (they all look the same unless you buy accessories for them but I guess they are made up of more polygons so you approve. Of all the things to complain about :[

I myself bought a WiiU, damn stupid Idea. I didn't know it would be shunned by so many 3rd-party devs. I got it for Bayonetta and the next Zelda.

Like many say, Nintendo does not include the community when it builds its hardware. So really nothing was developed ahead of time to take advantage of its hardware.

Nintendo is like Apple, they don't stray that far from the formula not to stir up their fanbase but at the same time they are being left behind.

Stubborn company and the hardcore fans allow this.

Wow, the 3DS is the best selling handheld bar none, Sony has nothing on Nintendo in the handheld market. If Nintendo knows how to do anything right, it's working with handhelds. The 2DS is a great idea as it allows more people to jump into the handheld who maybe either thought the 3DS price was too steep or didn't believe in the 3D functionality.

As for the Wii U, the author forgot to mention Sonic Lost Worlds which is shaping up to be the best Sonic game in a long time. He mentions Donkey Kong being too "faithful" of a sequel and uses that in a bad sense. If the previous game was fantastic, then build on that, don't change it. Mario 3D World will be a huge stepping stone in the Wii U sales department, watch how well this game will sell in Japan for example. Then he brings up Mario Kart and tries to put it down. Does the author realize that the previous iteration sold over 30 million copies??

In the end I put this article somewhere between complete BS and head scratching. The author doesn't do a good enough job proving their case, all they point out is a few flawed points and assumes they are getting their message across.

If anything, this Fall/Holiday and 2014 is what will ultimately save the Wii U and prevent it from being a huge disaster. And the 3DS will be fine, it's been rock solid to this point, with tons of support from devs, something the Vita has sorely lacked.

They got Mario. The got Zelda. They got Donkey Kong. They sadly don't have anything else.
deafdani  +   379d ago
Yeah, they sadly don't have Metroid, they don't have Xenoblade, they don't have Pandora's Tower nor Last Story, they don't have Smash Bros, they don't have Animal Crossing, nor Kid Icarus, nor Star Fox, nor Mario Kart, nor Paper Mario (unless you're one of these mindless people that think that all games with Mario on it count as the same), etc, etc, etc.

Poor Nintendo, they don't have any IPs at all. :(

some types who comment on here

- either they cannot take Nintendo criticism and are absolutely delusional about issues Nintendo is facing.

- or they are delusional with this notion Nintendo will "end" because of Wii U. Nintendo has Billions in the bank and 1st party gold mines still.

Oh, we can take criticism. Logical criticism.

"3DS is doomed"

with SSB and Pokemon on the horizon and tons of great releases in the last six months is not logical.

Wii U? Yeah, its struggling. Severely. No doubts there. But to equate the Wii U's struggles with Nintendo as a whole or with the 3DS is just daft.
falcon97  +   379d ago
Xbox1 and ps4 will face the same struggles but will they survive ?????
Starbucks_Fan  +   379d ago
These articles are getting so old now. The price cut is going to help sales big time.
The 10th Rider  +   379d ago
The 3DS is really solid. They have a decent looking holiday line-up for the Wii U and I'm sure the price drop combined with the Wind Waker HD bundle will move some Wii U consoles. Next year we'll be getting Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta 2, and a look at the next zelda among other things. I wouldn't be surprised if they had another Nintendo Direct in January highlighting everything to look forward to in 2014 (like the one they had last January.) Yeah the holiday line-up this year could be better, but their future really isn't quite as scary as the author makes it out to be.
jsslifelike  +   379d ago
Especially not scary when you extrapolate out from Nintendo's strategies this time around. I'd be willing to bet that their next piece of hardware is BOTH console AND handheld with a home dock that it streams to. Nintendo's art philosophies along with their desire to innovate in the game space almost makes it a no-brainer. I'm still excited for Wii U, but way more for what lies beyond.

Less fans of videogames here posting, more suits and number monkeys. Sales (of course) dictate the future of a particular console, but I'm not in it for this reason. I am a fan of videogames, and as such, I am looking greatly forward to the steady stream of Wii U games available of the coming few months. I've a PS4 pre-ordered, that's for sure, but ONLY because I'm a sucker for new tech, that opening up a brand spanking new console. My head tells me - like the PS3 - it will take a good year or two before it finds its feet. Meanwhile, I'll have a great library of Wii U games this Christmas.

thomasmiller  +   379d ago
well at least the nintendo line up blows the hell out of the ps4 and xbox one line up, they don't have nothing good coming out this holiday seasons, and the media is mad because nintendo has the big holiday line up, the sales will prove it!! but what ever helps these little whine bag trolls sleep at night!
hollabox  +   379d ago
More doom and gloom for the mighty Nintendo! Nintendo is not going anywhere any time soon, too much in the bank with 3-6 call it a hit franchises they can fall back on. Now Nintendo needs to be honest with themselves and decide moving forward is the Wii U what the masses want? Did Nintendo make the Wii U too weak? People feel the PS4 and XB1 are too weak compared to current PCs and they both are 4-5 times the power of the Wii U.

I hate to say it but Nintendo might have to pull an Sega and release another console in the next 2-3 years, or otherwise expect layoffs to save some that $5-7 billion in the bank!
