The Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn conundrum: An unplayable great game

MMGN: The servers are full. The servers are down. Error. Please wait in player queue. Emergency maintenance. Error. Rinse and repeat. (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, PS3)

Another glimpse of our always online future...

Guessing you never tried WoW when it first release. Oh the loot bugs, lag, and queues. Also, MMOs (massive multiplayer online) will always be online. What you should be worried about is games that can be played solo having to be always connected (Diablo 3 PC, Sim City).

Here's a fun list to look at as well (this launch reminds me a bit of Aion)

And on the bright side, SE (like Blizz) will be giving players additional free days to compensate for the problems.

I don't think you got his point.

He wasn't saying an mmo isn't allowed to stumble out of the gate. He's saying that this could be the outcome of the always online future certain parties tried to start.

I don't really see how that could happen since queues wouldn't really be involved in say, Assassin's Creed.

However, what he was saying is VERY clear to me. And it's not what you replied about.

Yeah, how dare an online RPG be always online. What if I'm on a nuclear submarine?
dcj0524  +   695d ago
This 100%. I mean one time I tried playing Guild Wars 2 in my personal submarine ( the kids love it) and it didn't work. I even called customer service and they gave me some " It doesn't work offline" bull.

We have a platform for you if you can't get connectivity for your MMORPG. It's called a Commodore 64.

Of course, its common sense to know that we're still a long way off from this "always online" life.

However, they're doing a 10 hour maint atm. So hopefully, these problems are totally eliminated upon server up.

It's unfortunate, but the level of support, and acknowledgement of issues has been impressive.

I just went afk whenever I wasn't playing instead of logging off. My first mmo. Definitely set the standard high.

I hope you're afking in one of those sanctuary so you get rested exp..
rdgneoz3  +   695d ago
Once your get a craft up to 10, you can just pretend you're busy and auto synth stuff as you go afk in a sanctuary :P

I'm new to mmos but man it's rough getting off work and trying to log on only to be told maintanence starts .....NOW. I have the worste luck and can't see myself paying monthly if this continues.
helghast102  +   695d ago
You know what this maintenance is for right?
If it goes as intended, this will be the best maintenance ever.
rdgneoz3  +   695d ago
Basically, the "One maintenance to rule them all!" Should hopefully fix all the log in issues and make the servers a bit more stable.
