The Top Five Pokémon Impostors

HG - "If you’ve read any of my recent articles you’ll notice a trend — I cover a lot of the Pokémon news. Growing up in the ’90s, I was a huge Pokémon fan, as surely many of you were. I’m still a Pokémaniac to this day, but since I’m an older, wiser, mature adult, I’ve come to realize how many different games rode the coattails of Pokémon’s success." (Culture, Pokemon)

Digimon was the shit!

This is bs from the article pic alone. Monster Rancher was awesome and in no way a "pokemon imposter"!

The gameplay style was completely different. The cartoon was cool too. Pokemon gets too much credit just for being the most popular. Monster Rancher did real 3D battles and training on the PS1 and PS2, you could put in disc to get a monster and the training, stats, tournaments, co-op where you could bring your memory card to a friends house were all awesome.

It would've been cool to see it this gen with online support. The characters(monsters) and how they all could be combined to make different sub-species of each other was the big highlight, the rare breeds and combining with a rare breed to make something spectacular was above what pokemon did.

How dare it be lumped in as an "imposter".

"Less than a month after Digimon made its debut"
It's literally impossible to have been an imposter when they both launched so close to eachother. Monster Rancher obviously wasn't thought up and created in less than a month!

Lol, I seem mad but really I just have too many fond memories of Monster Rancher games to see them getting discredited like this.

Technically Pokemon is the imposters, as it got it's idea from Dragon Quest 5.

Still though in terms of what it gives you in a game, I'm still surprised nobody has come up with anything as good.

The problem is nobody went the Human warrior route like Suikoden, but make it more like Pokemon.

It would work.

Digimon was dope, i dont know anything about the other shit

The digimon game could have been good but the death mechanic really killed it (pun intended) imo.

I remember struggling to even get to the second form before it would almost immediately die, even when i thought i was taking perfect care of it.

Spent countless hours putting every disc on my playstation hoping to get a badass monster in monster rancher, and when you finally started to win tournamentsand have a very powerful monster it'd died and restart from scratch all over again, good times.

Digimon was being developed before pokemon was created. So Digimon is not an impostor. Digimon was a gigapet before it was a show.

Monster Rancher was a fun series, but the game was actually way better. Digimon was the other way around (only first season, though).

Digimon if I am not mistaken came out in Japan before Pokemon. But in North America Pokemon came out first. Both games are great and I wish the new Digimon games would still come out in North America.

I also would like to see a new Monster Rancher game too.
