The Promised Battlefield 4 Xbox One Demo at PAX is Just A Nerfed PC Version With a Controller

Just four days ago Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb promised a juicy Xbox One demo of Battlefield 4 at PAX on his blog.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case at all, as confirmed by two different sources.

Not surprising. At all. Half truths is basically routine so far for them this generation. From DRM, the abilities of the Cloud to Nvidia videocards and the list goes on. They should just try being a bit more honest, it goes a long way w/ people and more importantly potential customers.

Nitrowolf21564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

I am more surprised by the fact that it was 8 v 8 on a full map of conquest than that it was running on PC again. XD

really 8v8? to demonstrate BF4?? This just sounds like a snoozefest there, I mean I had a somewhat hard time find enemies on the PS4 version that had 16 players. WTF was DICE thinking with 8v8 of conquest

Abriael1564d ago

That is indeed the silliest part, considering that the map they used is huge. Basically the game was turned into a walk in the park.

Eonjay1564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

This really wouldn't be a big deal if there wasn't such a concerted effort to make it look like it was running on Xbox. The whole Xbox Controller, keyboard hidden crashing to windows 8 is a disappointment if you were expecting to see it run on console. Or at least let people know what they are playing.

It shouldn't be running on highend PCs and then advertised as your first chance to play it on Xbox. People get upset when they think they are being deceived. Larry Hryb bothers me. He seems like a professional BSer

NatureOfLogic1564d ago

Really MS? Just tell the truth for once. MS is becoming the joke of the gaming industry.

MWong1564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

It's not too surprising since we really haven't heard anything about the XBone version of BF4. thought M$ said all their demos were going to be running on XBone consoles and not PC's a few days ago.

thechosenone1564d ago

and yet Scott Lowe from IGN was bitching about the PS4 being nothing but PC devkits and then this blows up in his face. lol

Don't know if this is Microsoft's fault for not having X1's to show or EA's fault for not having the game ready to run on the X1.

If it's Microsoft's fault, at 2-3 months from launch and they still don't have a proper X1 to show and play games at conventions, it's not a good sign.

Ahytys1564d ago

It's not a good sign either way... EA should have their next gen titles ready at least for a demonstration on the actual hardware.

cell9891564d ago

It's microsofts fault for promising they'd have xbones running BF4 on the show

HugoDrax1564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

I'll say it's EA's fault, but here's a video from the Microsoft store of an XB1 console being setup to run FORZA 5 in store. Looks like a console instead of a PC to me, but I don't think it has the final OS installed as the guy in the vid inputs his dev password. Link below

http://youtu.be/vI71Jzfp3TA

DragonKnight1564d ago

It's both their fault.

Microsoft's for allowing this kind of thing to happen in the first place.

EA's for being lazy with development and thinking people wouldn't catch on to the fact that a PC version was being used.

Microsoft is in no position to allow PR slip ups like this at all, but as soon as they make a few good decisions (or should I say finally used common sense), they always become complacent and believe that they will always have an upper hand. They obviously didn't look into BF4's development status before allowing the showcase to go on and it'll cost them.

EA are also not in any position to have PR slip ups considering they've been voted the worst company in America twice and people are just looking for reasons to go after them. It's inexcusable to pass off what could be considered a completely different version of a game as the Xbox One equivalent when it's not.

@pete007 Microsoft: "Well, we could show our super secret powerful hardware running in a conference and destroy our competition/make a load of cash." Executive: "NO! Let PlayStation make us look ridiculous this time." Logic fail, you aren't coherent enough to speak to the public.

Computersaysno1564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

They can't hide it forever, don't forget that. Before the end of this year, less than 4 months now, the consoles will be out in the cold light of day. Microsoft cannot hide for much longer.

They have to go head to head with Sony's hardware on the very same games. Someone is going to come out with a bloody nose and I'll be sat there taking it all in.

I love watching the early blows of console life cycles as the manufacturers jostle for position.

Bzone241564d ago

Lol. If people would actually read Major Nelson's full blog post, you wouldn't be confused.

http://majornelson.com/2013...

Can someone point out where it says that BF4 is going to be playable on an Xbox One?

I see a demo schedule that has Kinect Rivals, Spark, Fable Anniversary and Dead Rising 3.

I really think people are reading too much into things to try and make Microsoft look bad. Any reading comprehension will disprove that.

Is it October yet? This is the time that it's mentioned gamers will have a chance to go hands-on. Doesn't really even mention on Xbox One with the October hands-on though. The only time "on Xbox One" is mentioned is "With the release of Battlefield 4 this holiday" Guess people are once again not letting the truth get in the way of trashing Microsoft.

malokevi1564d ago

Surprised? Little boys abound on N4G.

"my dad can beat up your dad!"

I cant wait until November, so I can tune out these clowns for 10years. That should give them the opportunity to grow up.

MotherLight1564d ago

I am not confused, did you read it may I ask you myself? Because it is in the first paragraph actually. That is exactly what it says.

The reason this is even an issue for anyone is because it was only a couple days ago he was just saying they had retail units ready and production was going fine. Yet here we are again seeing that is far from the truth.

Bottom line if they had all that ready, they could run BF4 off of those. They wouldn't need a PC to do it.

badz1491564d ago

lol @Bzone24

you kinda think that all those games are running on the Xbone when Major Nelson said;

"be sure and stop by the Xbox Booths at #412, #422 and #432 for an great lineup of the latest and greatest games ONLY XBOX ONE CAN OFFER."

and...

"...and for the first time for Battlefield console gamers, 64-players running at 60 frames-per-second on Xbox One. #BF4"

yeah, he might not exactly said that BF4 will run on Xbone THERE, but when you said such things, people will assume that it IS!

LeCreuset1564d ago

"Can someone point out where it says that BF4 is going to be playable on an Xbox One?"

Uh, yeah. From your link:

Xbox One at PAX Prime on August 30 – September 2

As you head to the Washington State Convention this week for PAX Prime 2013, be sure and stop by the Xbox Booths at #412, #422 and #432 for an great lineup of the latest and greatest games only Xbox One can offer. Below is an overview of Xbox activities you’ll find exclusively at the Xbox booth this Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2.

The Games
Imagine sixty stations featuring the most dynamic and intense driving, fighting and shooting anywhere on the show floor, all in One place. Add in a stage featuring demos of “Dead Rising 3,” “Project Spark,” “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Fable Anniversary” and a 7.1 surround sound “Forza Motorsport 5” racing rig. Need I say more. The list of games you’ll find at the Xbox booth is below.

Ryse: Son of Rome: PAX Primers will be among the first to play “Ryse: Son of Rome’s” co-op multiplayer experience: Gladiator mode. Set in the Roman Colosseum, Gladiator mode plunges you into the brutal world of gladiatorial combat, where you fight cooperatively with your friends against an ever-changing array of enemies, to the roar of thousands of spectators.

Forza Motorsport 5: North American fans will get their chance to go hands-on in the “Forza Motorsport 5” pits and experience this year’s biggest automotive journey starring the world’s greatest cars and tracks. This is your chance to experience the all-new physics engine and take one of the fastest cars in the world, the McLaren P1 on the fan-favorite Laguna Seca race track.

Battlefield 4: Known for their world-class multiplayer, DICE is bringing Battlefield 4’s epic 64-player battles, vehicular combat and all-out warfare to North American fans this week. Gamers will have a chance to go hands-on with the “Siege of Shanghai” beta launching in early October. With the release of Battlefield 4 this holiday, players will experience an all-new level of destruction and dynamic environments with a game-changing concept called Levolution, and for the first time for Battlefield console gamers, 64-players running at 60 frames-per-second on Xbox One. #BF4

LeCreuset1564d ago

@malokevi

Surprised that someone else is jumping on the "N4G is full of Sony fanboys" bandwagon to write off deserved criticism of MS, without having their facts straight? Not at all.

Bzone241564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

@Motherlight

What does that have to do with Microsoft? Other demos were being played on Xbox One. BF4 not being ready to run on the Xbox One is a DICE/EA issue, not Microsoft. Think before you speak please.

@badz149

Did you not see the demo schedule on the same post? No BF4 on the schedule.

@LeCreuset

Sorry, but it doesn't say BF4 will be playable on Xbox One. Did you miss the words "hand-on" in "October" and "With the release of Battlefield 4 this holiday, players will experience" I know it takes a little reading comprehension, but give it a shot. As I just said, do you see the demo schedule on the same page? Here it is for you since you missed it.

"Friday through Monday, the Xbox booth will feature four marquee titles: “Dead Rising 3,” “Project Spark,” “Kinect Sports Rivals” and “Fable Anniversary.”

Starting at 10:00am and ending at 6:00pm, 30-minute demos will rotate through the following schedule:

Kinect Rivals – 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm. 4:00pm
Spark – 10:30am, 12:30pm. 2:30pm. 4:30pm
Fable Anniversary – 11:00am, 1:00pm. 3:00pm, 5:00pm
Dead Rising 3 – 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm, 5:30pm "

LeCreuset1564d ago

@Bzone24

Trust me, I am one of the last people you want to come at on reading comprehension. Let me show you why.

"Sorry, but it doesn't say BF4 will be playable on Xbox One."

Let me school you on reading comprehension. When the blog headline is "Xbox One at PAX Prime on August 30 – September 2," that's your first clue that the information contained within that blog is in reference to the Xbox at PAX. Shocking. I know.

"Below is an overview of Xbox activities you’ll find exclusively at the Xbox booth this Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2."

Do you see where right below this statement is a list of games? Do you see that Battlefield 4 is included among those games?

Now let's jump to the two parts that are giving you trouble and leading you to make silly statements on the internet.

"Sorry, but it doesn't say BF4 will be playable on Xbox One. Did you miss the words 'hand-on' in 'October' and 'With the release of Battlefield 4 this holiday, players will experience'"

"Friday through Monday, the Xbox booth will feature four marquee titles: 'Dead Rising 3,' 'Project Spark,' 'Kinect Sports Rivals' and 'Fable Anniversary.'"

Let's start with those marquee titles. "The Xbox booth will feature four marquee titles." That is not the same as saying, "The Xbox booth will feature four titles." There is a reason they placed marquee before titles. The Xbox One's marquee titles are its exclusives. Notice the four titles it lists as marquee are Xbox console exclusives. The article tells you flat out that "the list of games you’ll find at the Xbox booth is [sic] below." It then goes on to list Battlefield 4.

Let's quote directly what it says about the "hands-on."

"Gamers will have a chance to go hands-on with the 'Siege of Shanghai' beta launching in early October. "

Pay attention. That means gamers will be able to go hands-on with the beta that is launching in early October. That does not mean that the chance to go hands-on with the beta is in early October. Key distinction. As final proof that you were wrong, let me quote the NeoGaf user referenced in the Dual Shockers article.

"And it's 8v8 on a full-sized Siege of Shanghai conquest map."

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

The key takeaway from that is that he was playing on the Siege of Shanghai map at PAX.

I await your apology.

Bzone241564d ago

All that you showed, which I already knew, is that Battlefield 4 will be at the Xbox booth. Nowhere does it say it will be playable on the Xbox One.

This is the only apology you are getting: I'm sorry but you are really reaching. You still haven't shown anything that says it was going to be playable on the Xbox One at PAX. You are reading things that just aren't there.

Here is a little more from the post:

"Imagine sixty stations featuring the most dynamic and intense driving, fighting and shooting anywhere on the show floor, all in One place. Add in a stage featuring demos of “Dead Rising 3,” “Project Spark,” “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Fable Anniversary” and a 7.1 surround sound “Forza Motorsport 5” racing rig. Need I say more. The list of games you’ll find at the Xbox booth is below."

You see that BF4 isn't listed until games you will find at the Xbox booth, which if you go to the page you will see. Just because it's at the booth doesn't mean it's playable on the Xbox One. Is it written in invisible ink or something that it's playable on Xbox One?

DevelopmentArrested1564d ago

Just another reason to trash the Xbox over nothing. If it wasn't playable on the Xbox one I'd have to say that's Dice's fault with other titles being playable one the Xbox one at pax.

LeCreuset1564d ago

@Bzone24

It's obvious that you can't be appealed to through reading comprehension. It's like trying to prove an equation to someone that just doesn't know how to do math. Time is limited, and so are bubbles. I'll cut to all you need to know: GrizzNKev was at PAX playing the "Siege of Shanghai" demo at the Xbox booth which had "boxes hiding Windows 8-based PCs with Xbox One controllers attached." Don't piss in my face and tell me it's raining.

Bzone241564d ago (Edited 1564d ago )

Neither can you. Still haven't showed where it says Xbox One will be running BF4, but oh well.

Yet they had other demos running on the Xbox One. Don't see how this is a Microsoft issue. Maybe the developer wasn't ready? Regardless, they always use an Xbox controller at the Xbox booths. Like even when a game isn't running on an actual PS4 they still use a PS4 controller.

Hicken1564d ago

@Rau: Dude, it's a lost cause. Even I don't break things down that far. You smashed his everything, and his reply is so sad it's hardly even worth reading.

You should expect that, though. That's what happens when you counter fanboy logic with real comprehension and intelligence.

Bottom line is: Microsoft led people to believe that Battlefied would be on Xbox One at PAX. It doesn't have to be explicitly stated; implications can be just as strong, without ever saying it directly. Due to Microsoft's heavy implications, people expected BF4 running on Xbox hardware; we can see that this isn't the case, which is deceitful.

It's hard to spin this as anything other than what it is: Microsoft continuing their trend of lies, half-truths, and 180s.

Imalwaysright1564d ago

LMAO so now MS is setting up PCs for PC gamers, not potential X1 owners, to try BF4? It is Good to know that MS is selflessly promoting an EA game for the PC even if it costs them potential sales of the game on their platform.

I just don't understand why MS had to nerf the game. It is almost as if MS wanted us to believe that the game was running on actual X1 hardware.

LeCreuset1564d ago

@Hicken and Imalwaysright

Well said.

DragonKnight1564d ago

Here's my question: Why, after all of the things stated in that blog which would lead anyone to the conclusion that BF4 would be playable on XB1, would anyone NOT think it would be playable on XB1?

Arguing that it's not explicitly stated when it's HEAVILY implied is meaningless. The message was clear as day. Larry Hyrb was trying to get people hyped up to play BF4 on an Xbox One and no one did.

It's ludicrous that this kind of thing is still happening. It leads one to believe that either the Xbox One isn't ready, is more difficult to program for than people are saying, or that MS/EA/DICE are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

Bottom Line: It's frickin' pathetic.

kreate1563d ago (Edited 1563d ago )

all confusion would of been prevented only if microsoft told everyone that they got battlefied 4 will be shown from pc.

they need to stop mentioning xbox one sometimes. or else this is what happens... a PR disaster/advertising disaster/whatever disaster (what ever u guys want to call it).

some PS4 games were running on PC too. Why do you care anyways. Something to complain about and make it seem relevant to something that doesn't even matter. I can't wait for next gen.... almost here and I don't understand why if you call yourself a gamer want all companies to come out with amazing games. Instead it seems people want only one company so they can fu$k us all day.

thekhurg1564d ago

@drama queen above

Sony never claimed that all games were being shown on the PS4. Microsoft were the ones that started touting about how all the Xbox one games being shown were on the actual console.

alejandroelputo1564d ago

To say the truth battlefield 4 is not really meant for consoles. Call of Duty does show great console support and plays golden. Titalfall will follow and make the greatest shooter for consoles, battlefield and its engine can stay great on its primary platform, pc. We all know DICE game priority will always be PC, just like Valve and Blizzard.
