You already know of Reggie Fils-Aime saying “meh” (and Shuhei’s response) when it comes to the PlayStation 4′s launch titles, with the Nintendo of America’s President adding how “we’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong.”
Sony could say the same about the wii u. The government should investigate Nintendo and the wii u because it's a bomb. Lifetime sales will be about 10million. Wii u hasnt shifted a million units this year. Ps4 will outsell wii u this year or within two full months
3DS to Vita ratio is 6:1 worldwide. That there is horrendously hilarious. Nintendo have plenty of room to speak on the matter. What's the PS4 to Wii U ratio? Why should Sony been bring up home consoles when the interview was about handhelds?
@Bundi: Hold on a second there mate, Have you ANY idea what the ratio of PS3-to-Wii U's sold are in the entire time that Wii U has been available? Considering that PS3 is an aging system well beyond the 5 year point, it still embarrasses the Wii U in sheer sales in the past year. You would think sales would die off, but the PS3 is stronger than ever despite the fact that anyone who would have already wanted it, probably already bought it before Wii U came out. So don't go there, because the Wii U's sales are a joke--even compared to 360, which hasn't had a meaningful exclusive in YEARS (except for Halo and Forza repeats). Trust me, the Wii U is a non-issue for the PS4. The PS3 alone is wiping the floor with the Wii U, leaving room for the PS4 to focus on tackling real Next-Gen competition (technologically) = The Xbox One. So don't start.
one thing that worked out for the Vita is the very high attach rate in Japan Vita games are frequently in the top10, and Conception2 a new multi-platform release sold more on the Vita than the 3DS and Indy devs keep saying how Vita is the highest selling platform for them
just add an S and you get Vista.....and that's how you get families worried. anything starting with a V and ends with an A is jinxed.
To make Vita feel better by bringing Wii U. It coming logic thrown around lately when every Vita being compared to 3DS in sales.
"Wii U is doing fine" Seriously??? Anybody that thinks it's doing fine is living in their own world. It's doing horrendous by any console sale standards. 160,000 in 3 months is terrible :(
@ misaka ^^ nin fans do the same when people bring up the wiiu...always a vita comment but truth be told the vita sold more than the wiiu. on topic Nintendo wasnt saying this before a 3ds price cut imagine if they waited a year and a half like sony did with the vita. they would be looking worse that the vita. they didnt do anything but sell a cheap kids handheld...wtf is 3d bit a gimmick....nobody cares for 3d not even Nintendo (2ds)....what new ips have they had? the vita had things like gravity rush & soul sacrifice...its the price that matters....thats why the wii was such a huge success and the wiiu is a flop so far. thats why ps3 almost lost to 360 and thats why ps4 will out sell x1 from the gates....also why Nintendo chose to drop its prices on the wiiu ps3 &360 are 200$ and wiiu was just 50$ under ps4....in the red zone. smh ..sometimes these wars have no level of intelligence.
After a price cut, the 3ds really took off. The Vita barely got a price cut after more than a year out, how long did it take for the 3ds to receive a price cut?
The government should investigate Nintendo and the wii u because it's a bomb.'' Wow,you not get tired of trolling in all articles of Nintendo?? SHM. Anyways,Sony just doesn't have a clue what to do with the Vita, other than being a add-on for the PS4.
The simple facts behind Nintendo handheld success, is children. It's aimed at children, as are the games, and parents purchase for their kids. Vita isn't primarily for kids with many mature games, it's main age group struggle with money that their parents aren't there to give. Simple. As for those above saying Wii u is fine, hasn't ps4 and xone preorders already outsold?
Sony and Microsoft have a good clue on next-gen in the console market. PS4 and Xbox One will decimate the Wii U. The Wii has been selling better than the Wii U which is pretty bad. Plus Nintendo relies on franchises that are almost 30 years old still. They need to bring out something fresh.
And the Vita isn't a bomb? One failing console outselling another failing console ones does not equal a successful console. Also have you not forgotten that Sony's been combining PSP numbers with Vita's? Besides why are you bringing a console into a hand-held discussion?
But this discussion is about handhelds. It's no secret that the 3DS is outselling the Vita right now. The Vita is also a bomb.
All Nintendo is saying is that in the end, Games matter more than Hardware. Nintendo knows Vita is the better handheld in terms of specs, they won't debate that, but they give a different kind of value with the touch screen, dual screen, and the games they offer. Both handhelds are really good.
Someone gets it.
"The government should investigate Nintendo and the wii u because it's a bomb" Lol that's pretty clever and funny.
Is it me or Nintendo are becoming more annoying day after day.
lol sales = caca Nintendo is sony's daddy. get over it. (:
I think he completely overlooked the fact that Remote Play on the Vita is designed to be used with the PS4, not the PS3, so it's not going to affect sales at this point in time.
Oh lord how long before the Nintendo and Sony fans be at each other throats.
Sit back, relax, and grab some cop porn...er..I mean pop corn.
Soccer moms/pensioners dont participate in the console wars.
*Watching the first comments* And it has started... Again...
You mean how long has it been? It's almost nostalgic.
A man loves Nintendo for classic platforming and local MP goodness but loves Sony even more for their fresh IP every gen and even late in the gen, online model (free games constantly and stability), controller, and steady stream of SP focused games.
Why can't we be friends. .. I love Sony and Nintendo.. I have a Wii, PS3, 3DS, and PSP. I'll eventually get a Wii U, a PS4, and a Vita. Nintendo and Sony support their systems with enough first party games to justify their purchase. I can't say the same for another system manufacturer.
IT HAS BEGUN do do da do da do da do do do do do da do da do da do do do MORTAL KOMBAT!!!
the thing is, sony markets to older people. older people are the ones driving the cars, they aren't the ones in the backseat to be entertained by portable gaming. If I am away from home that means A I'm at work B I'm at the store buying essentials C I am at families or friends Not really a good time for gaming. Sony really needs to market younger for the handheld. Knack shouldn't of been a PS4 game, it should of been a vita game, that is the type of game kids would care about and maybe get them interested in something besides their gameboys.
Gonna have to agree with that, Knack really should have been a Vita game. I'm surprised that there isn't at least a Vita version in addition to the PS4 game. Very odd.
Interesting. Knack would've been more interesting as a PSV exclusive sometime after Tearaway's release.
Cue the Fanboys
Why are you cuing yourself Lol
Really, Did I say anything sucks or Nintendo fails or anything like that?
Nintendo is right. So far vita has proven very little. If they don't get a huge sales boost this holiday season it could be curtains for it next year.
Get outta here with your two bubbles. The vita is an amazing device. And it's time will come. Now go play your story less Mario game
"The vita is an amazing device. And it's time will come." The question is.....the time will come for what? The PS4 launch. There is something wrong with that picture. You need a console to sell a handheld? That's not a good thing. People aren't gonna go buy a vita just because of PS4 and remote play. It needs original games.
@GoldenMonkey34 "I would by a book if I wanted to hear a story" LMFAO!!! Just wow! XD The equivalent of me saying "I would start doing parkour if I wanted to hop around like an idiot all day like Mario"... Some people like gameplay AND NARRATIVE buddy. -_____-
@Belking LOL you have two bubbles. Should I take you seriously?
Just STFU you loser, your company can only dream of the sales Sony achieved in the console business and truth is handheld business is peanuts compared to the consoles. And when did N deliver a superb new IP? I played Mario as a kid and decades later you still can't bring anything new to the table, shame on you loser!!! All you have is Mario, Zelda and some other kiddie games that no true gamer cares about, so seriously get lost buddy!!!
The origional ninteno ds sold more than the xbox and ps3 combined. If that is peanuts your crazy. EDIT: to date there are over 154 million nintendo ds systems worldwide.
Shhhh... *Whispers* What are you doing? You know fanboys don't like when you bring facts into the conversation.
If they would make much money in the handheld business, they would release a real console instead of some outdated crap, so they can compete with the big players like they did in the past, but thruth is they can't. Handheld business is peanuts compared to consoles, deal with it!!!
The fact of the matter is, the handheld market has shrunk considerably (despite the 3DS sales, it's not going to outsell the DS) and the mobile market has increased drastically (although it pains me to say this) The console market has had its setbacks over recent years but continues to be a giant in the world of entertainment (films, tv shows etc.) In other words, the console market is much more important than the handheld market if you base your logic on the statistics. Nintendo after the SNES has seen consecutive console "fails" in the sense that they lost share of the market (N64, Gamecube) and are still unable to sustain a steady flow of console sales (Wii, Wii u) for a life cycle. Sony, on the other hand, has been the most successful in the console market. 100 million PS1s, 150 million PS2s and 80 million PS3s (which had an expensive price point yet managed to catch up to competitors and is now a shy 20 million from the Wii - Nintendo's biggest successful console) At this point, Nintendo is much more likely to drop console and stick with handhelds (or even go to mobile) if they want to continue to gain healthy profit. So to summarize all of this: Handhelds are not as important as consoles and Nintendo is in danger of getting out of the console market (despite what you drones claim)
You lost me at "no true gamer cares about". Nintendo has arguably the best first party lineup of any company. Tons of "true gamers" love Nintendo games.
Is that jealousy i see nintendo? Because wii u is not a next gen console and isnt getting any attention unlike the ps4 and xbone?
Why are you bring up home consoles in a discussion about handhelds?
Im talking about the company as a whole since reggie been a dick lately and its most likely because wii u didnt get any attention during launch
The Company as a whole is not just the Wii U
Bringing Wii U in Handheld Discussion. Is off-topic.
How else are they gonna defend properly on the VITA's behalf?
Ps vita has no compelling software whatsoever and the memory cards are extremely overpriced. Why would i get a 200+memory card system when i could get a 2ds for 130 and have way better games and not have to buy other accessories for it to function. I cant even think of any of sonys own first party studios that are currently working on the thing. Sony throughout gamescom and e3 were trying to bank on a bunch of indie titles which is pretty sad.
They are not banking on Indie Titles. In fact they are so confident they didn't even announce first party games, knowing they don't have to, and spent the time talking about Indies. If anything they are too cocky.
Whether the software appeals to you or not is subjective. You answered your own question.
Keep playing your games and go sit down child.
Vita's got a Wii U situation happening right now. Its starting to prove itself with some good upcoming titles! The only problem is that not many of them release exclusively on the Vita, although the Vita version is definitely the more appealing choice with games like Hohokum. I would much rather play a game like that on a handheld instead of a home console.
I agree with Reggie, personally I have no interest in most of the launch lineups for the non-Nintendo consoles. I'm really excited for the upcoming Wii U & 3DS/2DS games
Good for u. Go play your ds 1.5
What's with Reggie recently? that's out of character.
lol reggies mad.
You wouldn't like it when Reggie gets angry. Reggie Smash!
Awwww, I think there's a DirtyPimp turning a little greeeeen!
i think vita sales will pick up after the ps4 launch. Suddenly there will be a lot more PS+ members who, after awhile, realise they have amassed quite a free vita game collection. I already have quite a few myself and will be picking up a vita next year for certain. I mean what a deal, £40 a year and i get games for ps3, ps4 and the vita each month.
I agree, I will be picking up a Vita when I get my PS4. You know then they'll release the PS4Vita bundle or a new upgraded version. Damn technology and all it's awesomeness!
i know i'm kinda jacking this thread with something completely random but it's kinda related since it's about the vita in a way. i'm currently trial versioning the auld PS+ and i "downloaded" a bunch of the vita games... i don't plan on renewing the PS+ until the PS4 comes out (have all the games already on either one of the consoles). so my question is when it inevitably runs it i know i'll lose access to uncharted and the others but if i start it back up in november will i re-gain access to uncharted and so on?
thanks man or woman i suppose or animal or object... this could go on i'll stop now
3DS will sell the most in the Handheld department, but that doesn't mean the Vita will fail, it has some games coming up, I don't think it will be a smashing success for Sony, but it will turn a profit and get some acclaimed games. Will be about like the PSP overall.
