Can't believe this games only 60% complete. This is going to be big and will bring more people in the gaming world just as the first one did. I know plenty of people that did not buy a Xbox untill Forza came out.

This is for real. My older brother bought a PS1, and it came with a demo game that included Gran Turismo. I fell hard for the game so much that I went out that same day and bought a PS1 for myself along with the game. I've loved the series ever since. My only reason for buying a PS2 was for Gran Turismo 3, and my only reason for buying a PS4 still remains Gran Turismo. It is without a doubt for ME, the best game of all time. I've bought every single one on launch day with the exception of the first one. I bought Forza for the xbox but sorry guys it just didn't do anything for me so I returned it. I still play GT4 on a more than regular basis, and will continue to do so until the next one comes.

I'm hooked on drifting.......It's the best! and thank you for reading my rant.

Dude, no doubt. I really am not trying to disrespect anyone, but
I C A N N O T imagine how many hours of my life I've spent playing this crazy game. Of course I'm talking about a college experiment gone mad - "Gran Turismo".
Fu+n ridiculous. Just because I'm a little tired and don't feel like typing an essay right now, I'll keep it short in regard to my last rampage with this game, because I could talk for days about this rotten game. It was the summer of 2004 and I had just bought GT-4 with the L-Tech wheel. I went over to my cousin's house and basically camped out there for about 2 months (he's a fanatic too). All we did was jam on two screen / two game sessions via LAN and single plays - everyday (baked to death). It was exhausting. Circuit de La Sarthe I & II for 24 hueres du Le Mans. 24 hours dude!! And we didn't direct either! No way - We were on the wheels shiftin' & ROCKIN! We even went shopping for special wooden tables for our "dashboard" setups. It was awesome. I still play way too much, but haven't had sessions like those in a while. I mean people would come over and ask to play, but we really didn't want to get off and ususally didn't. It really pisses my girlfriend off now when she sees me fire it up, so I have to sneak in little sessions now like a freakin' addict. Like I said, Fu+n ridiculous. I believe other games actually pay "it" homage by designing like, kind, and quality games after GT. This has to be awfully flattering to Kaz and crew. They are simply OBSESSED with cars. Their lives are poured into every drop of the game and you can feel it from the license tests, to the 172nd lap at Suzuka. And as much time as he and his crew spend on the "Gran Turismo" series - - their just making things considerably worse for me!! I dread GT-5. I mean my girlfriend is kinda hot, but....LOL

But Forza 2 is definitely shaping up. The damage didn't look quite as extensive as one would expect, but I think it's good enough. Especially since GT has none right now (sigh-). I can't imagine how embarressing it would be to have your friends literally see how bad of a driver you are. Missing bumper, only one rearview mirror, etc.

BTW, when I say the damage could be a little more extensive, I'm actually referring to the windows and body frame. It would kind of suck trying to drive with cracked/shattered windows, but it would definitely add to the realism. (or maybe Burnout's spoiled me) It's a good start though. =]

i know what you mean that it could be more extensive... but the developers have said that the user is able to adjust how much damage is actually done, because damage affects drivability... so if they put damage on full then the damage will be much more severe... this was probably on medium-ish. But i guess we'll know for sure when the game come's out.

The windscreen\windows do get shattered when its set on "simulation damage" that was said by the devloper in a Q&A interview which was posted here over a month ago.

Physicswise GT does'nt stand a chance, Forza has a much better driving feel to it. Gran Turismo has a lot of cars and nice graphics but not much more. I mean you can't even customize the look of the car to any extent, and no damage?! I borrowed my friends PS2 just to play GT4 and got disappointed right away. Once you find a way to cheat your way through races in order to get big cash, the fun ends. And most cars - compared to Forza - feel like they have the same physics. I'd have quality over quantity any day.

The general consensus seems to be that GT4 had better physics and graphics than Forza, and after playing Forza I can confidently back that statement up. Forza 1 seemed like a decent effort (especially for a first try), but it didn't quite stand up to the GT series. It might've been due to the hardware though since Xbox sucked at floating point compared to PS2 (which is essential for physics calculations).

Now that we're on more capable hardware though I think the GT team needs to step it up. I did see the previous comment about damage levels and it would be better if GT5 allowed people to choose either arcade-style damage or realistic damage, the latter allowing for cars to literally wreck and smash to pieces during a race.

That's true, the PS2 certainly had better graphics and more power than the Xbox. Try comparing Rallisport Challenge 2 with GT4 and you'll see for certain that the PS2 and GT4 really was better in every way. I mean Rallisport looked like crap and had no physics to talk about...

Make no mistake about it, Polyphony will go out all guns blazing to make GT5 a better overall experience than this and vice versa with the Forza boys. Past history has shown from GT previews, that the final release is way better than earlier previews, screenshots, movies etc etc, and anyone who can remember the early GT3 movies will heartily agree. Either way both game will no doubt be fantastic, as for which will be the better, not one of us on here will know until BOTH are in the shops. I have my own thoughts on what i THINK will be the better but, ill stay quiet until both are available.

Fact #1 Forza totally outscored GT4 on ALL reviews combined. Not even close buddy.

Fact #2 Forza 2 not even being halfway done...already looks much better than anything shown for GT on the ps3.

I played both Forza and GT and the only thing GT had over Forza was the amount of cars. But 80% of the cars in GT4...were buckets that no one would drive in the game anyway. Just overkill. Forza on the other hand...cut out the cars no one cares about and put in all the really cool cars...Thanks Microsoft.

Fact #1: Gran Turismo is still the premier driving simulator. Gran Turismo has had 4 installments, whose aggregate rankings according to gamerankings are 95, 93, 94, and 89. Forza has only had one installment, which got a review of 93. Fewer people played Forza than played Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo is still king of the hill when it comes to racing games.

Fact #2: Forza better be more than halfway done if it's going to make the expected Q1 release date. Gran Turismo 5, on the other hand, is coming in 2008, so it's not even close to being done. If you want to compare Forza 2 to GT HD, well that makes about as much sense as comparing GT4: Prologue to the original Forza.

Fact #3: There is no point arguing with you because you're just a mindless fanboy.

And one last thing: Why do you always agree with every comment you make? Are you trying to deceive others or deceive yourself into thinking everyone agrees with you?

The GT series has gone downhill. Every game has been getting lower and lower scores by reviewers. It would be safe to assume their next one will be lower as well. Forza 1 was released in the same time frame as GT4 and beat it head to head by every review source. Nuff said. Cry and complain but the facts remain the same. Why does that bother you so? Can you explain how scores of 95, 93, 94, 89 indicates a steady decline in quality? More people played GT4 than Forza, more people have played GT games than Forza games, more people are looking forward to the next GT game than the next Forza game, and for these reasons I believe GT is still the top driving simulator. If Forza can beat it again, then that might change. Until then, GT is still top of the heap.

P.S. You just explained how every GT game has gradually dropped in its scores. What kind of question is that? And all 4 games were from the playstation to the playstation 2. But the over 1 million gamers who had the lucky oppurtunity to play forza...were able to play the best current Rated racing sim to date. Them lucky xbox owners. What I found to be rather interesting...Is GT4 didn't sell as much as Halo 2. But yet Sony's install base is over 4 times that of MS's. WOW. First party against first party. I'm talking about sony's premier first party game in recent years on the ps2 compared to MS's recent first party game in recent years. 24 million base to 100 million base. I didn't explain how they've been continuously dropping in scores, I explained how one of them was about 4 points lower than it's predecessors. If they had been continuously dropping in scores then Gran Turismo 3 wouldn't have scored higher than 2, would it?

GT4 wasn't as good as it could have been because it lacked online (really stupid to not include it) and damage on the cars, and GT5 is set to add those two features. But we'll see what game comes out on top. Personally, my money's still on GT5.

And get your numbers straight, GT4 sold over 10 million copies, while Halo 2 has sold around 8 million. And GT3 sold as much as Halo and Halo2 combined.

And stop saying Thanks Microsoft. All that tells people is "I'm a fanboy." If they weren't trying to make a profit and just in this to make people happy, then you can thank them. Personally, I would never thank Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony, unless they did something completely altruistic.

Interesting Antan. There is no GT5 untill Spring 2008.

For now it's GT4 HD smugged up PS2 game and Forza 2 competing. Forza 2 will win hands down.

When GT5 releases (if not delayed on massive base like Killzone 2/3 is), Forza 3 will be here also.

Forza was already stated by game reviewers to be the better race simulator (watch the scores overall), Forza 2 will take a quantum leap over GT4 HD smugged PS2 game, and will stay that for the next 1,5 year.

In that time race fanatics will have bought the game and the 360. After that it'll be Forza 3 compared to GT5. But Forza 2 already having quantum leap in 2 episodes and GT4 fourth episode on an equal base with the 1st Forza...

Completely agreed. Why can't people just see that the competition is creating 2 great racing games? Personally I will get Forza because I own a 360 but if I had a PS3 I would probably get Gran Turismo. And why do people on here have to bash games that other people like? If you don't like a game then explain why in a civilized manner rather than just saying a competing game is better. That just starts dumb arguments that make your day worse.

Here we go:
Gran Turismo 4: Great car list, great tracks, good graphics. Poor "feel". When you're driving a real car at the limit...I don't know how many of you have done that, the car gives you a lot of feedback...take it too fast, and things get rough, the car loses grip, and the tires squeal. I could never feel that in the Gran Turismo series...I didn't realize that until I picked up...
Forza: Smaller car list, but some key names missing from the GT series. (Porsche, Ferrari..) Damage...oh my gosh, how many times have you bounced off a wall or another car in the GT series...and ah, the cars fine, no consequences. Still looks like I just washed and waxed it. In Forza, things flew off the car....it did copy the GT series, but it took all of its weaknesses and made them strong.
GT:HD...Polyphony is just going to try the same formula, it looks like...work on graphics, work on car lists(finally getting Ferrari), and not care about making it a real simulation....I don't know, for some reason, in my simulations I like there to be some kind of effect for running into a wall head on at 200 mph. Maybe that's just me. Say there was a really long straight, followed by a sharp right hand corner.....you could get the same time around that corner, maybe even better, by just slamming into the wall head on and starting to drive again... or the aggressive kid behind you can bounce off of you through the corner...greeat. Without rumble...how are you supposed to get close to telling when your cars going off the road. The particle effects are inexistent in the trailers for it so far too....haven't seen much smoke or dust....we'll see about that. If I were to buy this game I'd have no choice but to buy a FF wheel too.
Forza 2...even more cars than before, and Lamborghini, best damage in a console simulation yet, great feel, force feedback wheel made for the game, great particle effects....
There won't be as many cars on track, and the level of detail won't be as high, but it's still going to be impressive...ohh, and the decal editor, I left that out....custom paint jobs are huge in Forza....in the GT series...look at the customization...here's some new wheels..now let's put on a giant wing...and...paint it green! Yes! Green! I love green! Vs...... full, real body kits, Different types of spoilers and wings, wheels, and a fully custom decaled paint job....hmmm....and if you get hit the right way, that wing can fly off...which will effect your performance....
Forza 2 sounds more like a simulation to me...
And I would say that GT:HD is more like buying DLC for GT4, just with better graphics, and you dont get to keep your old save...and you have to pay the full price for the game.
As for Forza 2...by the time GT5 finally comes out, there will most likely be tons of DLC (Tracks, cars, maybe even parts and gameplay modes.) out for it, but I wouldnt expect Forza 3 for awhile. Polyphony really dropped the ball by not having the true next one in it's series out.

the damage system looks great. as much as I would like to buy the force feedback wheel I can't justify to myself spending $150 on a peripheral for one genre. now add support for driving a warthog in Halo 3 and I might just buy one.
