The Best Game Capture Kits for Consoles and PCs

Back in the early days of gaming, showing off your skills required a trip to the local arcade, or maybe setting up your dad's VHS camera in front of the television. But the growing influence of YouTube has allowed gamers to cultivate brands around their commentaries and Let's Play videos.

The story is too old to be commented.

The Xbox game sharing is where it's at.

This is a great article. I'm thinking about picking one of these up to record gameplay of GT5, KZ3, UMvC3, and Injustice.

I bought the Hauppauge HD PVR2 and the software it comes with works rather well. I would suggest it to a friend, and I have, and they really like it too!

I have the Elgato and it works great as well.

I'd say think twice about purchasing an expensive device if you're on a budget. I don't use the device nearly as much as I thought I would, although it has come in handy a few times.

Actually the ONLY reason I was doing what I was doing. Was because Dirtypimp was writing the first comments in every xbox article bashing it. I was giving him and the rest of you sony fans the same treatment. Because yes it is very annoying

@tcozzens - that's exactly the model I'm thinking of ordering. Not trying to be a homer but I used to live in Long Island and I would drive past their facility all the time. I've put off this purchase long enough.

As p0tat0stix said though, I do not use mine nearly as much as I thought. With that being said I know for a fact that I will use it for GTA V. I'm getting the Xbox One and I think it only records 720p 30fps. Needless to say I'll be using this card which does 1080p at 60fps

Any PC Gamers Here? Would like to know what you guys use!

I use FRAPS software and just record to an extra HDD I got.

ANyone use Twitch.TV and a Capture card let me know your set-up. Thanks

Hey ATi_Elite, I am a PC Gamer, I also use Fraps. I bought it at the official website to support them and to use it to make my videos. I used to use the bootleg version but decided to buy it afterwards being satisfied with the experience. I use Sony Vegas Pro 12 to edit my videos, and it is excellent. I record on one of my 2TB WD Black HDDs, for maximum efficiency.

Easycap? Hey, I'm joking, but for the price it does a very good job! See my Youtube channel, Ps3Gamervideos, for demonstrations of the device! I'm making a Silent Hill series overview soon, and the gameplay is all recorded. The Easycap isn't as crappy as the price would lead you to believe.

I'Ve heard things about the HD PVR, but the Roxio Game capture HD seems to be good too. Another good device is the Elgato Game Capture device! A lot of big gaming Youtubers use that! The problem with the HD ones is that it costs a bomb and they require a lot of HDD space.

The Elgato Game Capture HD is my device of choice. Great tech, easy to set-up and all of the functionality for streaming and instant sharing.

Note that it's ELGATO Game Capture HD. I wonder if IGN realized that they kept calling it ROXIO Game Capture HD in the second paragraph of the section, which is bad, considering how cheaply made Roxio's capture devices are.

Also, you CAN capture from SD consoles with the Elgato. You just use the composite cables with the bundled component cables. They are compatible and it works fine.

I know the PS4 can record gameplay footage but does anyone know if it can record your voice as well through headphones?

Also can you take the video you recorded on the PS4 and copy it onto a usb key to edit on a computer?

I just picked up the HD pvr 1512 w/ir blaster. Can't say enough about this device. definitely one of the better capture devices out there.
