the interface might actually be more comfortable. 3d was just a gimmick , no 3ds games are unplayable in 2d. Plus the price cant be beat.

the 2ds is just a means to keep the platform relevant until their next portable is revealed. this is the norm for pretty much every game platform.

they go through the initial release and it sells and as time goes by they try to revise it to appeal to new consumers and before the end of the run they revise it again to extend the platform just a bit further.

what i am most interested in is what kind of new portable is nintendo working on? Will it be more tablet like to compete with the rising popularity of tablets and smart phones or will it be more traditional?

no doubt the increase in mobile gaming is cutting into the realm of dedicated portable gaming so nintendo has been watching things pretty closely for the last few years.

If it will continue to use dual screen technology then perhaps both will be touch type as opposed to just the one. If they want to pursue the naming then they have the 1DS (original DS/DS-lite), the 2DS (non 3d/DSi), 3DS (3d version) and then maybe the 4DS (dual capacitive touch screens with higher resolution and higher specs)
