Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising

NL - "Yesterday may have brought huge Nintendo news, giving the company coverage on any technology or gaming site that you'd care to mention, but how that news was disseminated was interesting. With major releases we've become accustomed to short-notice Nintendo Direct broadcasts, which build hype and then drop the bombs. To say that wasn't the approach this time is an understatement." (Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Wii U)

Great points by the writer!

I think the price drop is about Nintendo trying to make sure it is not forgotten by unfavorable Next Gen speculations.

Even if PS4 and XB1 do exactly like the WiiU did in sales,
-Some people will have more faith that they (PS4 & XB1) will turn around or have more faith in last Gen (PS360) before they start to shift focus to the WiiU. "Some"

A better install base and the illusion of trying to appease developers like Ubisoft, who have called for a price reduction, are not bad things.

More fragmentation in the Nintendo ecosystem? Meh.
