What We Think About The Nintendo 2DS

GI - "When news hit the office of the Nintendo 2DS, the Game Informer office erupted in commentary. Here are some of the editors' opinions on the new device.

The caveat, of course, is that we haven't gotten our actual hands on the device – but that hasn't stopped us from thinking our thoughts."

It's a cheaper alternative that caters to the Tablet crowd. As long as people don't think it's a new system or buy it unknowingly when they want 3D then it will be a smart move (and since it says 2DS it obviously doesn't have 3D). Some parents would love to save money if they could

In a world of Ipad mini's and XL's it's just another alternative.

My kids have been asking for a 3DS since it launched, but I've kept them with their DSi's because I really didn't like the 3D and eye strain. I've tried it several times in the store and can't go more then a minute without getting a headache. No way am I buying it when my kids will play with it for Hours.

That being said, the thought of a 2DS sounded attractive, but then I saw the design. Why? why would you lose the clam shell design? It was one of the best features introduced with the Game Boy Advance SP, and stuck since.

No sale until the next remodel I guess.

Really the only thing keeping you from buying the 3ds was price. because the 3d effect can be turned off so you cant really blame the 3d as the reason for not buying.

the 2ds design is a departure but that seems to be intentional. If you want the clam shell, get the 3ds and turn the 3d off and be able to do all the things the 3ds and dsi can do with the option to turn 3d on.

Get the 2ds for less and still be able to play all the 3ds and ds and dsi games without the 3d but it doesnt have the clam shell. chances are nintendo already has protective covers in the works.

I agree with azshorty

On or off, wether you like it or not consumers will still pay for that 3D gimmick because its included in the retail price hence Nintendo removed it for 2DS.

Its like paying for Kinect 2.0 wether you like it or not.

And a lot of parents want none of that.

Is that logic too hard for you to understand?

I also agree with him that the clam shell design is the best design for portability and screen protection, field of view adjustment hence the Nvidia Shield.

I say, Nintendo is riding the tablet bandwagon trend yet again like in the Wii u gamepad. Another "me too" approach to blend into the tablet craze.
Well like they say "If you can't beat them join them."

After losing a pair of DSs to my kids a few years ago, I can say the single piece construction is much better suited for a younger crowd.

I'm with you on the headaches, I went instant migraine when I first demoed the system, and I still have issues with the slider turned off... something just isn't 'right'. I'm looking forward to testing this one out and seeing if it affects me at all.
