AMD's Robert Hallock explains why AMD was the definite choice for next generation consoles.
No bias, lol
You could say that again. I mean whatelse was he going to say? Nvidia was a better choice for the PS4 & XBone, but they went with us?
This story has been done to death months ago when Nvidia was butthurt about not get the contract with consoles, and thusly badmouthed AMD and the "small profit margins" that made the business case for not taking on a console contract.
Nvidia costs a hell of a lot more than Amd for what a 5 fps difference for £60 no thanks and some games actually perform better with amd I know this litterally because I sold my gtx670 ftw edition and replaced it with a amd hd7970 ghz. Also if you were to talk about apu type processors just for gaming amd is a lot cheaper and you actually get better performance than intel if you dont believe me check this out http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I choose you, AMD.
Unless they were prepared to go with ARM then Nvidia wasn't even in the running. That leaves only Intel and AMD that could deliver an x86 APU. And when it comes to graphics AMD is still well ahead of Intel, despite their recent improvements. So really there was only ever one choice.
Dem's fighting words.
I kind of agree after Nvidia's seemingly sour reaction after missing these contracts. Expect a lot of back and fourth between these two companies showing up on N4G. Oh and PS4 is going to be amazing Nvidia whether you guys like it or not. Now you might as well play fair and create something innovative instead of bashing competition or next gen consoles. Also, now that MS is going with AMD as well, don't expect them to automatically lift you up by the bootstraps.
They're just sticking their finger in Nvidea's bullet wounds lol.
Expect a reaction(s) such as that from a wounded lion at some point in the near future.
Nvidia is actually very, very healthy atm. AMD has been in more trouble lately though, so this needs to work for them.
AMD are definitely the winner of this situation. Nvidia must be biting their fingers right now.
Because AMD provided CPU/GPU combo deal.
NVidia do not do CPUs. AMD have the best APU systems due to their GPU advantage over intel's integrated systems. For what both PS4 and XB1 seems to be able to produce I would say it has been a perfect match this time. Who knows what tech will be around in 3-4 years time when they start looking forward again. At least NVidia seems to have stopped having baby crying fits about AMD and consoles for the time being. They embarrassed themselves.
They can tell me what they want, but I know nvidia would've costed way more.
But what about AMD drivers? AMD has drivers issues right? How can XB1 and PS4 delivery smooth framerates when AMD drivers causes latency? I don't get it, Nvidia is king! Nevermind the fact Nvidia drivers kills GPUs. I had 4 months of hell last year when I couldn't play new releases without using beta drivers which caused BSODS. But heck my GTX 670 is still fast, I love Nvidia, MS and Sony are not worthy of having Nvidia GPUs in their system. By this time next year my tablet will be more powerful than both the X360 and PS3, in two years my cell phone will be more powerful than the Wii U. Jk! I think that covers the usual attacks from Nvidia fans. Anywho AMD scored big with Nintendo first using their GPUs in the GC, Wii, and Wii U. Microsoft wanted a piece of the action and go it with the X360 and XB1. Sony felt left out after dealing with the headache that is Nvidia so they reached in last and got the biggest piece. Nvidia feeling burned nobody went with their expensive products is now on the smear campaign. Oh my tech brothers can we all just get along?
Yea it was an obvious choice really. Not that AMD are better in any way but they can do APU's while Nvidia only make GPUs and certain arm processors. Well last gen was Nvidia and they did do a good job considering PS3 and Xbox titles still hold up pretty well till today. We will see what amd has in store this gen for consoles. On PC's well Nvidia owns the professional sector and I bet even the gaming sector. It will be an interesting next gen. Will Amd be able to handle it all, cpu, gpu, consoles or will they just about survive making it all work. Also will Nvidia lose market share by losing console deal or will they now be able to focus on the much larger pc and tablet market. Whatever happens this decision they have made will greatly affect them within the next few years.
"AMD's Robert Hallock explains" Pointless article. What do you expect him to say?
