Is Microsoft Just Copying Sony's Lead?

Joshua Phillips writes: "With the PlayStation 4, Sony saw fit to tackle each one of the Xbox One's faults head-on in numerous interviews and media briefings, showcasing why it was clearly the superior console. Over the last few months, we've seen Microsoft slowly retract almost every statement they made at the console's announcement, leading many to think that Microsoft is just following Sony's lead."

Of course and they'd be fools not to. They're trying to sell a product so you have to listen to the customers even if it causes you to deviate from the original plans.

j-blaze1726d ago (Edited 1726d ago )

they copied no one, they're just fixing some of their mistakes and bad business decisions, the real copy masters are Sony, they copied a lot i mean a lot of things from Nintendo and MS

Edit: Belking's comment below says it all, well said! add to that PS4 has Kinect looking camera, also, PS4 will have TV service now

xHeavYx1726d ago (Edited 1726d ago )

I guess it's a coincidence that all the things they "fixed" were things that Sony was already doing (Indie support, no need to authenticate every 24 hours, ETC)
They even copied with the 360 giving out games to people with Gold accounts

Az1mov1726d ago

copying is the biggest form of flattery ;) although they didn't copy everything. I mean they're behind the Bluray, which will serve the nextgen very well

XB1_PS41726d ago

They all copy, that's why competition is a good thing. If One innovates, and the others benefit from that.

AlexanderNevermind1726d ago

@ XHeavYx

Even down to adding a headset in the box. Not saying its a bad thing but they def are following Sony's lead.

"Even down to adding a headset in the box. Not saying its a bad thing but they def are following Sony's lead."

With that being said.... Doesn't that mean that Sony copied Microsoft because Microsoft included a headset with the 360?

Are you kidding me?
* Xbox One was having terrible reception from both consumers and critics and not doing very well on the pre-sale market.
On the other hand, the PS4 was having quite the opposite experience.
* So what Microsoft did was MATCH what the PS4 is doing.

* You clueless fanboys don't know the difference between a DVR and an online streaming service, do you?
Xbox One is a DVR. Much like the PSX(white PS2 cable TV DVR) was. Sony also had PlayTV and Nasne for PS3.
* What Sony is doing now is creating a video streaming service, much like they have before with Video Unlimited on PS3/Vita, which doesn't require a cable box or cable companies.
IPTV is the future. PlayStation ahead once again.

How about Blu-ray?

* You guys like to ignore the EyeToy and PS Eye. And guess what they have in common with Kinect... They're motion sensing cameras.
Yeah, go ahead and pretend that PS2 and PS3 did not do this before.

So again, who's copying who?

Tw1tch3D1726d ago (Edited 1726d ago )

Well if you want to put it that way, sure why not.

But, when it comes down to the consoles themselves and games and true innovation...yeah, either your bias or just won't admit it and used this as fodder for argument points, sad.

GrandTheftZamboni1726d ago

Sony copied controller without huge battery pack obstruction underneath as well as USB charging from MS. Then they went back in time and created DS3.

aceitman1726d ago

woooooow shinemaster. u hit it right on the button.

J-R1725d ago

All the changes are being made because of low pre-order numbers. If pre-order numbers were on par with PS4 from day one Microsoft would have no reason to make any changes to their system and policies.

1. Make decisions based on company vision
2. Consumers don't like that vision
3. Company listens to consumers and gives them what they complained about to sell a better product.

and that some how equals to copying sony...gotta love logic.

I'm not saying BUSINESSES (key word here folks) don't copy each other, but I'm just not seeing how Microsoft is being viewed as a follower. Honestly for this gen and the next o_O. I mean really...REALLY. Must we bring out bullet points?

You all gotta step back and look at the hypocrisy of this industry with certain audiences lol. I tell you, it's crazy.

MWong1726d ago (Edited 1726d ago )

Problem with your logic is M$ didn't listen to the consumers. The consumers were saying no to the XBone vision after the reveal, and M$ didn't change their vision or policies. If they would have they wouldn't have waited until after E3 and the initial pre-order figures to start their 180's.

I would say they did imitate Sony's business model (Indie friendly, no DRM, it's a cable box, less iron fisted policies ... etc). If somebody is doing something really well, you should try to imitate that business model. They still need to follow Sony's model of not forcing a camera down the consumers throat if it's not necessary.

disabling your youtube comments section after public backlash is not listening to consumers.

try again

ShinMaster1726d ago (Edited 1726d ago )

They had to take Sony's approach to attempt to match the Xbox One with the PS4.

Do you think that if the Xbox One was doing as well as the PS4 in the pre-sale market they would care about consumers complaining?
it's all about money to them.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi1726d ago

In a race, the best way to catch someone in front of you is to drive in their slipstream.

user74029311726d ago

they can imitate, but cannot copy.

FAT MAN GO BOOM1726d ago

Oh god yes.... they tried to do it their own way, then saw the preorder numbers...

They panicked and then had a brainstorm meeting on what they should do....

No one had ideas... till an intern said... we should have done what sony did....

than BAM Steve Yelled have it... I know what we should do...

We should do everything Sony is doing....

So they went to photocopy, whited out anything that said Sony on their policies... and replaced it with Microsoft.... when they got to the part about the camera and what they should do... well they ran out of white out... so they left that and the 499.99 the same....

MS is now waiting to talk about a new feature coming as soon as Sony announces something... cause by then they should have some new white out...

But in all truth...

Yeah MS did follow the lead of Sony ... and since there first attempted had failed so badly that they had to change it and change it quick... quickest way was to follow sony's lead... makes them come across as though they copied them...

gaelic_laoch1726d ago

Yes, and badly I may add!

gedden71726d ago

Nope but they are copying each other...

GryestOfBluSkies1726d ago

as is such in any business. where would the world be without "borrowed" ideas and companies trying to one up each other...
