Lost Planet 3 Review Scores Are Predictable For A Predictably Forgettable Game

Gaming Blend "Yesterday I had no good words to spare for Capcom and Spark Unlimited's westernized take on the Lost Planet franchise. The third game in the series looked trite, boring, predictable and the exact kind of embodiment of everything gamers complain about in the AAA space. Well guess what? It is." (Lost Planet 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I forgot this game even existed.

The game is surprisingly not that bad though...its not amazing and not worth 9/10 or even $60, but still a good pickup for like $30. I am actually enjoying it...

Such a shame, I was hoping for a LP2 with a far better story. The trailer alone reveals to you how dull it is.

the story is actually supposed to be great. read a few reviews.

Well the game is story driven, which is a 180 from the first two games. From what I've seen I can't say the story is worth caring about, but it's certainly better than the other two and lightyears ahead of E.X. Troopers.

Seems that the first one had the best overall campaign, second one had the best boss battles, and third one has the best story.

as a Capcom fan, i'm happy the game bombed, it'll make Capcom stronger and will make them stay away from western devs!
rezzah  +   231d ago
They can only be "stronger" if they choose to learn from their mistakes, if not then they will eventually reach a point of no return.

I remember the first lost planet being a really good game, hard to believe its sequels would bring the franchise down by a lot.

In cases like these i really feel bad for the developers, these situations have got to make them feel like shit

Why?

Having played roughly half of Lost Planet 3 and obtaining the platinum for E.X. Troopers and Lost Planet 2... it honestly feels like they made the game based off cliff-notes. They could have done a better job of adapting the ideas of Lost Planet 1 / 2 / EX and applying them to their own game. Like you get 1 "Rig" for the LP3 campaign, which works completely different from any VS I've seen in 2 / EX. In addition to being different, it also bares no resemblance to the Hardballer, which is the iconic "Lost Planet" mech.

No matter how much you dislike it the devs worked very hard on these games. And in most cases these poor design choices are pushed on them by the publishers. Also this game seems to really have been left out to die by Capcom with pretty much no marketing or acknowledgment at all, i didn't have the slightest clue that it was even out, and i'm on gaming sites and forums daily. Not only that but this will very likely lead to a lot of people getting fired or even the studio getting shut down, i don't wish that on anyone.

The problem with the game is simply the expecations everyone has. Know that it's made by Spark Unlimited, and know that it's a game in a franchise that has never faired well and you'll have a good time.

See it's not so much the game is bad as in unplayable, it's just that everything about it is REALLY unpolished and the clear work of less than A grade studio. From weird awkward jumps in story/character interactions to frustratingly easy enemies that feel they were designed to drag out the game because you have to do the glorified QTE 3 times.

Then look back at the game, and you'll see that it has pretty good level backdrops and a genuine attempt to make the main character likeable.
