What Does Xbox One's 'Cloud Power' Mean for You?

IGN | "We've heard a lot about Xbox One's cloud power, but if you've had a hard time visualizing precisely what it means for you as a user, Microsoft's latest infographic paints a pretty clear picture. Check out the image below for a quick look at how it affects Forza, Ryse, Kinect, and Call of Duty. What more do you want to know about the Azure cloud features on Xbox One? Without concrete evidence, this all seems rather fantastical at the moment.

However, one aspect of the 'cloud' that I'm very happy about is the dedicated server support. As a MP gamer first, this is just music to my ears. This current gen really highlighted the problems with P2P connections.

Agree, 16k to 300k dedicated servers are really sweet. not mention there will be smartmatch to filtering my region so I can play without any lag

kewlkat0071608d ago

Especially for COD fans....I'm guessing other multiplayer games will also get the dedicated support?

If that is the case on Xboxone because of Microsoft's infrastructure, that all multiplayer games get that support then it's a killer advantage.

Then you have the cloud gaming support aspect and the saves...etc which is still wait to be seen.

BallsEye1608d ago

All multiplayer games on XO will have dedicated servers support. It's part of the console now. Was confirmed by MS at E3.

ShwankyShpanky1608d ago

@Balls: Only if the publisher is willing to pay for them. They may be cheap, but they are not free or a "given" for every game. This "free dedicated servers for every MP game" FUD has gotten way too much traction.

"They may be cheap, but they are not free or a "given" for every game."

No, but they are heavily subsidized, which practically means every game. If a developer creates serious multiplayer experience, they have to compete and hence dedicated server is a requirement.

MS Azure cloud is practically free, because you only spin up as much servers as you need. That is one of the many powers of the cloud combined with MS tools, this should be a breeze.

Economically it doesn't get better than this. Development wise, I don't think it gets much better than that either.

Probably why Xbox One has confirmed dedicated servers for CoD and Titanfalls, while competing consoles has been completely mum about it. Even on the same game like CoD!

P2P vs dedicated server? You will notice immediately!

AngelicIceDiamond1608d ago

@Septic Yes, just yes.

Dedicated servers on X1 hardware is superb but realistically I wish more devs will opt in to DS. We have powerful machines that playing off a P2P connection? That's not the future console gamers deserve, DS is what we need and want.

Tw1tch3D1608d ago

Well, it's fantastical to us simply because we haven't seen it yet. But remember, those few at E3 that was taken behind the curtains solely showcasing cloud computing...I want to see what they were showing, too bad those few are for tight lipped about it.

Other than that, gaming is going to be pretty seamless next gen.

TheHierarchy1608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

think of Cloud as a future investment. it's a project that will span outward and isn't limited to a specific purpose. Cloud usage is strictly up to the developer's choice.

they can chose to use it for dedicated online gaming servers, data offloading, AI, driveatars, lighting calculations. whatever a developer wants their bonus features to be.

down the road we'll be seeing more developers raise the bar on what we think we know about cloud.

TheKayle11608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

isnt fantastical at all

I'm really excited about what they are going to make in the future with those servers

Deadpoolio1608d ago

Well Its not going to be graphical improvement.....So people are in for some big heartbreak when they find out it's really going to end up being only for game saves and dedicated servers for MP.....Azure is in no way designed to enhance graphics, the only people working on a cloud that works with a GPU is Nvidia

BS PR marketing and better online gaming

LackTrue4K1608d ago

Just cuz your AI still plays after you shut your XboxOne off is not impressive.....
.....hope for better features!
