A Final Fantasy retrospective from a long term fan and his hopes that the series might return to glory.
FFXV says no. I will skip XIII-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Lightning has a period and whatever else there is, but will jump back in for XV.
Agreed. I think its time for people to stop crying doom over the series being over. XV will probably turn out to be the best in the series.
Yeah, 14 is an MMO. 15 is an action-RPG, and they're already planning sequels (meaning 15 will probably span next gen, the way 13 spanned this one)...I don't think I'll ever be coming back to Final Fantasy.
XI was an mmo too... it's not like XIV and XV are the first to break the mold...
Pretty sure they never hinted at sequels for XV. I remember one website twisting Nomura's words around to amke a story saying sequels were a possibility. But Nomura never said anything legitimately even hinting toward a sequel.
'Says Nomura: “In the trailer, there was a line that read “A World of the Versus Epic,” which suggests that it will be part of an epic. While Final Fantasy XV will have one climax, as a story, we plan to continue it further.”'
Or he could be saying that the game, or the game world will epic.
A rpg >> ffs turn based. I dont get why so many people like those combat systems. Low level of strategy akin to that of arpgs....i mean most people to love kh and that game has no ff elements and nothing but tge combat. Which shows the combat itself is goood enough to hold a game up without all that makes ff great
Honestly, I don't understand people's mindset. An RPG isn't defined by being turn based. There are many different types. No one that I have heard of disliked Kingdom Hearts for its combat, yet people are quick to slander XV
@levian: I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise. However, Final Fantasy is most definitely NOT an action-RPG. I don't care how SE wants to bastardize the series. Final Fantasy is turn-based, and any attempt to make it otherwise, makes it NOT Final Fantasy.
By all means go ahead and skip what might be the best thing square has ever created...just because of its name
As a hardcore fan who thinks the last good one's were X, XII and Type 0, FFXV looks great from any angle. Cutting edge graphics, uematsu ost, crystal motif, towns, world map, great fighting system. But the best thing is what XIII got wrong; understandable story, not babbling non sense.
shimomura actually. i agree with you though
It's always the end of a franchise when Square-Enix has something to do with it.
Oh sorry guys, so this is bashing Square time; My Mistake XD
Any time is Square-Enix bashing time right now. Don't think they could do anything to change that for most of these people. As for me, I'll go into the new games like I've done with every one before them: with an open mind. I'm sure I'll enjoy what I play.
Its just the beginning for me, played my first final fantasy game in 13 and really enjoyed it. I just got 13-2 and will get Lightning returns, ff15, and going to get ff8 off the psn.
you gonna love FFVIII tell ya that
It sounds like ff8 has great stories/characters from what I read, so it sounds pretty exciting.
hmmm understandable. okay then. why don't you play the FF series from the ground up? THEN you'll have the fair perspective of what's really going on.
Good point/idea. I'll give the remakes of the earlier entries, 7-9 and the ffX remakes a shot, but I fear that going from the atb system to the turn based will feel really odd and uncomfortable for me.
@Williamson: lol! I've recently been replaying the whole franchise (main entries). I played the PSP remakes of 1 & 2, the DS remakes of 3 & 4, and now I'm on the original 5 (SNES). The funny part is, when I got to FF4, I almost died in my first battle, because I forgot it was ATB, and I was taking my sweet time. I started getting hit, and it took me a while to register what was happening (all the while, I was getting hit more). Once I snapped out of it, I just laughed, and got back to normal.
Oddly the article did not mention Final Fantasy XV... out of spite? Who knows. XIV looks like it will finally be doing well. Lightning returns looks decent. And XV looks amazing. And don't give me bullshit about it not being turn-based. I love turn-based games and look: I don't care that XV is not because I know that it was under another name before. I'd have been worried if they announced an action RPG in the main series out of the blue though. So don't get me wrong, I don't want the series to go all ARPG on us, but at the same time I don't care that XV is an ARPG because it started as a spinoff.
"I don't want the series to go all ARPG on us" Too late. Look at Lightning Returns. Look at XV (whether it used to be a spinoff, or not, it's a main entry now). If you think we'll ever see a main-line, console, turn-based Final Fantasy again, you're kidding yourself.
I'm willing to guess you never liked the game even when it was called Final Fantasy versus XIII. Look, I'm a fairly big fan of the series (even though haven't played through ALL of them of course, few FF fans have especially due to XI and XIV), but jesus. It's not the end of the world if one game in the main series (which looks on par with the quality of the main series) is an action RPG. Ignore it and simply wait for XVI which I guarantee will be turn based. Guarantee. Just wait. Replay VI or any of the other awesome games in the meantime.
XIV is awesome!!
I'd rather they return to simpler graphics but with complex gameplay to boot. I am not going to let FF XV pass though but in my perspective, I miss the old-school feel.. FFVI
FF3 SNES FTW
