OXCGN’s Splinter Cell Blacklist Review- Modern stealth perfected

OXCGN:

"From the bottom of my heart, I can assuredly say that Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the true successor to Chaos Theory, and is not only the best Splinter Cell title ever released, but quite possibly one of the greatest stealth games I’ve ever played." (PC, PS3, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Wii U, Xbox 360) 10/10

It's good to see the series go back to its roots a bit mroe this time.

They have taken what made the old titles so good and smashed it into Conviction which, I have to say, I liked. It felt more like it should have been called 'Bourne', but still, a solid game.

With that amalgamation you have all the options you could possibly want and the way it tracks your style of play is really well done.
BadCircuit  +   233d ago
I feel MGSIV was the first stealth game to really give you options. You could go in guns blazing if you wanted (not best option though), or you cold sneak around in boxes, break necks and kill nobody.

The ability to make a game that gives you options is what makes a classic.
DoctorJones  +   232d ago
Splinter Cell gave you options like that years ago. Thief gave you loads of options as well, I don't see how MGSIV could possibly be the first stealth game to give you options. It's just completely untrue.

@Badcircuit
Don't lie, MGS is a linear and above very easy stealth series. The first true stealth game, one with huge amounts of choice and massive levels are the Thief games. The amount of choice those games give you are outstanding,
If it wasn't for the Thief games back in 1998 (ironically, the same year as MGS), I don't think we would have such great stealth games such as Splinter Cell... Or at least not have them in their current form.

So If I loved Splinter Cell Chaos theory and the stealthy Double Agent missions I will love this?
Pintheshadows  +   233d ago
Yes.

In fact if you loved Chaos Theory you will be very very happy indeed.

you'll love it, only issue is if u are good at it expect a ton of rage quits
gaminoz  +   233d ago
I guess it depends on how you play it?
BadCircuit  +   233d ago
Why rage quits if you are good at it?
Nitrowolf2  +   233d ago
@Bad

Absolutely mate. The extra gadgets you get and the options you have make this the best Splinter cell. So many options to choose from. Get the black edition or 5th freedom edition. You get upgraded weapons and suits available after mission 1 and gives you more gadgets and weapons to choose from and use during the game

They finally nailed it!

It's been a long while that a Splinter Cell has grabbed me. I thought maybe its time had gone.

...She's having fun and she's looking good...she's lighting a fire and she's chopping wood...she looks quite sexy in her underwear...and she loves nothing more than fingering bears...eating some crackers in the local store...manager says "get out of here, whore."...When she gets tired, she likes to take a nap...she can often hear her boyfriend fap...she's a pleasant girl, and a lot of fun....who is she? She's my mum.

Happy Mothers Day Everyone!

I am absolutely loving this game so far. About 30% into the singleplayer on ps3, and it's had me hooked. The stealth is awesome and the menus and customisation are freakin sweet. HIGHLY recommend. Keen to try out spies vs mercs and coop soon.

I really want to pick this up before GTAV hits and enjoy it too!

Ubisoft deserves all the sales they can get it's a really fun game. ;)
MrTrololo  +   232d ago
As much as i hate ubisoft,i gonna hand it to them, they did a good job with the splinter cell franchise.this deserved a 10 since we finally get a true splinter cell game next to chaos theory.
theEx1Le  +   232d ago
Dunno if I should get this or not. Is the Spies Vs Mercs the same? Heard there was no roll and its a little more combat orientated.
Bathyj  +   232d ago
Im really enjoying this but for the love of God Ubisoft, put a shoulder swap button in their. Every 3rd person shooter has to have this. Leaving it out is as bewildering as leaving Y axis inversion out of Splinter Cell HD or dragging bodies out of Conviction.

I wish you could carry and extra weapon too, you can never have a sniper rifle AND a SMG.

And picking up sticky cams if not detonated is a staple of SC. Not being able to pick them up makes me reluctant to use them in the first place.
Benchm4rk  +   232d ago
I thought that too. Back in the old splinter cell days I'd always pick up my sticky cams off the walls and would be really careful about what I used and how much gadgets I used. However with Blacklist with the added restocking multiple times during missions I find that I don't mind using all my gadgets and actually use them more than ever now as I know it won't be long til I restock all my ammo and gadgets.
bunt-custardly  +   232d ago
Try playing on Perfectionist so you cannot restock gadgets.
Benchm4rk  +   232d ago
Haha sorry I didn't think of that. I'm only on my first play through at the moment. Once I'm finished I'll be trying it on Perfectionist.

Really thought this would be a sleeper when I saw the gameplay demo last year at Oz EB EXPO 2012..

..now the series has got it's mojo back and more and is even highly praised and rated.

Great to see the series at the top again.

It's splinter cell conviction except not black and white all the time. It's good but the way Sam moves is a bit off. You cant roll anymore that sux a bit. I'd give it an 8.
