Star Citizen Sets its Sights on $18,000,000 With New Stretch Goal

Just yesterday Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen soared above $16,000,000 in crowd funding, and today it already gained another $82,000 over that amount, starting the cavalcade towards the $17,000,000 stretch goal and its flyable battlecruiser.

The folks at Cloud Imperium games don’t seem to have any intention to stop there, though, as a new stretch goal has been announced for the mind boggling sum of $18,000,000. (PC, Star Citizen)

Think of all the ice cream that money could by. At this rate, I should start a crowd funding campaign.

No, damn it. It's "buy". And because the edit option disappears after a couple of minutes that post is going to bring down every educational system on the planet. Me and my big mouth.

I'll send them some money if they bring it to PS4.
Abriael  +   367d ago
They already said they're considering it after thee PC version.
T2  +   367d ago
Ya but they should announce it solid ... Save me 800 for a gaming pc , this is THE pc game I want most
Cernunnos  +   367d ago
No, they announced they might considder making a console version for the next next-gen consoles, like PS5.
Abriael  +   367d ago
@Cernunnos: no mate, as a matter of fact you're wrong. Chris roberts explicitly told *me* in an interview at Gamescom that he's considering PS4, as already reported on this very site. The video is encoding as we speak.
thezeldadoth  +   367d ago
go watch the video where he explains his opinions on console limitation and holding gaming back. Its more than likely never coming to console. Its actually the front video on star citizen website. PC game only.

Funny, considering that Chris roberts explicitly told *me* in an interview at Gamescom that he's considering PS4, as already reported on this very site. The video is encoding as we speak.

It won't
cyguration  +   367d ago
It's playable this week. So I doubt there will be angry e-mails.
Studio-YaMi  +   367d ago
I'm hoping so,for their sake.
Blacktric  +   367d ago
It's the single most ambitious crowd funded game project out there AND it's being made by an actual industry veteran. Not some hack like Tim Schadenfreude or Denis Dyack.

It won't suck. Just like Wasteland 2.

Looking forward to the game. It's been too long without any proper space operas.
chrispseuphoria  +   367d ago
How did they get that much?
The_KELRaTH  +   367d ago
Support from gamers!!

Chris Roberts has created some fantastic games in the past like Wing Commander series, Privateer series and many more.
wishingW3L  +   367d ago
that's a triple A budget!
Revvin  +   367d ago
Not really when you consider the $100,000,000 budget for Halo 4 and GTA 4 or the $60,000,000 for Halo 3 and MW3. It's still a fantastic achievement though for crowd sourcing and proof that there is interest in the space combat genre. The game looks fantastic.
ifritAlkhemyst  +   367d ago
Wow! Where did all that money go for MW3? It was inferior in every way to MW2.
T2  +   367d ago
Likwise halo 3 not even close to 2 guess 60 mil isnt enough
AnotherProGamer  +   367d ago
The average budget for a AAA game (not counting marketing budget) is about $16-20 million
Hassassin  +   367d ago
The Witcher 3, a true next-gen game has a 15M development budget... so OP is right

Revvin  +   367d ago
Hassassin> That's the development budget, the total budget was $40,000,000 You can't just develop a game and not market it, those figures I posted were total budget costs.
BlasterGR  +   367d ago
It's gonna be epic! Can't wait!
Ducky  +   367d ago | Funny
... are they building a video game or the death star?
cyguration  +   367d ago
Death Star with a Starforge in the center. Destroy planets and create armies all in one go.

Go big or go home, boi.
skyrimer  +   367d ago
I can't wait to play this with the oculus rift
Hassassin  +   367d ago
is there any news on when the consumer edition will out?
TooTall19  +   367d ago
I hope it turns out good, but it sounds like a ponzi scheme.
modesign  +   367d ago
This game should be free since its being funded by donations
Abriael  +   367d ago
They're not donations. They're pledges. Basically a small investment. No one is donating anything, as everyone is getting something in exchange (the game).

Those that pledged WILL get the game without any additional expense. There's absolutely no reason for those that didn't pledge to get the game for free.

This game is not coming out until Dec 2014. If I throw a $20 down a well I know it will be there for a long time, if I give $20 to this game it cold be canceled anytime then that money is gone. To risky
Hassassin  +   367d ago
BUT pre-alpha build is coming this thursday 29th. You can't do much yet, but by the end of the year you'll be able to dogfight in arena-like space combat.

edit: Oculus support is coming soon as well
