Skyward Sword as the Template for Zelda Wii U’s Soundtrack

ZD writes: Last week Djinn wrote about how the state of music in the Zelda series has changed over the many years since its inception, and near the end of the article he spoke briefly of how recently the quality of Zelda music has drastically increased with the orchestrated soundtrack of Skyward Sword. And let me tell you, when I first played Skyward Sword that was the impression I got too: It’s so much higher quality. It would be a mistake in my eyes for Zelda Wii U to not continue what it did. But there’s a bit more to it than just live instrumentation. (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Wii, Wii U)

I agree,
-it has to stay orchestrated.

I also hope that the CD that they release includes all of the songs, no matter how short.

i agree it should stay orchestrated, but while i loved skyward swords music, i felt the compositions were lacking in some respect, think about ocarina of time, and all the different melodies, they were AWESOME, same with twilight princess and wind waker, but skyward sword only had a hand full of catchy melodies compared to ocarina of time,i love zelda music but i want the new zelda to have themed melodic music fully orchestrated for each area, for instance the forest, the sky, the water etc, i want memorable tunes which stick in your head, skyward sword melodies were good but no way were they as catchy and memorable as ocarina, twilight and the older zelda games, hell the actual zelda hyrule them was not in the game, or if it was i don't remember it, every zelda has had it at some point, i want that classic track and a whole load of new ones!

Metroid is another nintendo franchise with awesome music, i loved how the prime games also kept up with having the themed classic melodic tunes, but again although metroid prime 3 had some great tunes, it too was lacking compared to prime 1 and 2, both those games had insane tunes!! man i get goose bumps thinking about a prime game on wii u, i hope nintendo and retro hurry it up, but i hope it more like prime 1, that for me is one of the greatest games of all time!!!

I see your point-
But I don't necessarily need catchy tunes-

I felt more like the SS songs captured the mood of every moment in the story far better than any Zelda.

It was more like a great Score than the Sound Track.
(Like some movies release 2 CD- On of the Licensed Music and the other for the background).

The Main theme to SS is memorable to me however.

"Interesting" Vote Up to you.
I also Agree because you made some good points.

I agree that the actual orchestrated tracks were some of the best the series has ever produced, but it also disappointed me that a great deal of it (much more than you would think) was still MIDI-based.

If it's a matter of budget, that's one thing, but Nintendo seems content to hide behind the old "MIDI is more dynamic" defense whenever the topic arises. But given the ability of even more modestly budgeted games (like the Monkey Island special editions from a few years ago, for instance) to contextually adapt orchestrated arrangements to gameplay, I would have to say that Nintendo is really running out of excuses at this point.

I would love for them to use a choir for some of the songs.

I know they can do it because I remember being shocked when the I heard it in GCube's Fire Emblem.

But I think that most of the singing was done by the robots and statues- Or whatever Fi is.

"Interesting" to you and an agree.
