WC - Tales Of Xillia – PS3 Review

WC - “Tales of” is a niche heavily fantasy Anime stylized JRPG franchise still kicking all the way from 1995 despite nobody really giving a damn about it outside of Japan. Last year’s entry titled Tales of Graces F reached cheese levels off the charts with a story that seemingly existed just to take the theme of “friendship is power” and club the holy hell out of you with it. I simply reached a point where I could not stomach anymore of the nauseous dialogue and gave up. I am a fan of the series though and when you combine that with Tales of Xillia receiving overwhelmingly positive reception and sales numbers during its 2 year head start in Japan, it was a no brainer to pick up the localized stateside release. Surprisingly, I am disappointed but hey, at least I finished this one. Equating it as the Final Fantasy 13 of the franchise isn’t exactly strong praise either. (PS3, Tales of Xillia) 2.5/5

Back in my school days, teach always taught me to use grabbers to start persuasive essays. But this just seems a bit...much. Poor form by the writer.

Yeah, how unnecessary... Good thing they started the review out like that though. It gives me a heads up to know it's not even worth reading lol.

And as someone who has studied business, saying that something has been around since 1995 but also stating that no one cares about it just makes you seem dumb. The games have been coming to America for YEARS, if "nobody cared" about them then Namco wouldn't localize them. Yes there are PSP/Vita/DS games that don't make it over, but we've gotten probably 99% of the mothership titles. Dumb review, if you don't like the game that's fine, but state your opinion in a well-educated intelligent manner.

Hate her voice. It does not go well with the cinematics, story, the battle screams,... EVERYTHING. They should have picked a better voice actress.

I have to agree. Whilst she's not a bad voice actress, her voice seems kind of deep and slightly scratchy. It doesn't fit Milla's character at all. If Japanese game studios want to make more money, then LEAVE THE JAPANESE VOICE TRACK ALONE! Stop removing it and replacing it with slightly mediocre English acting. One possible avenue they could explore to make a little more money, is release the Japanese track in the PS Store so we can get it if we want it. Charge like 2 dollars or something.

I just started playing it, I like how it's got that typical anime JRPG look and feel to it. I can tell I'll be enjoying the rest of the game (hopefully it won't be a damn Lost Odyssey deceitful type of shit). I like the battle system that you can run around and attack but what I don't like is how you gotta hold R2 to run freely and then dodging seems more like a combo then just hitting one button and using certain abilities you gotta tilt the analog sticks in a certain position? Like I'm actually having a hard time dodging. Besides that it seems nice.

Lame review, nothing to see here. Sure the game has some issues, but it's by far one of the best JRPGs released in a long while.

Loving this game about ten hours into it and I am having a blast!

I'm roughly 30 hours in and I can definitely say it's a great game. Not my fav JRPG this gen, but I still recommend this. No less than an 8/10
