Cinelinx | NHL 14 Makes Me Angry, In A Good Way

Cinelinx: "

I love hockey, I follow all kinds of teams, play the game myself, and constantly defend my Coyotes. That being said, I absolutely love the NHL series from EA Sports. I’ve followed it ever since 94, which just so happens to be celebrated in 2014! The bad thing is, all this love for the game makes me totally angry with NHL 14.

I finally got a chance to install the demo and try out the game, and guess what…. It’s awesome. They added new fluent controls and streamlined a few things. One of the coolest new aspects is the ability to have after the whistle issues. In older games we all skated around the ice smashing into players constantly and it was funny. In later games, players would shake their fists at you and occasionally start a fight." (NHL 14, PS3, Xbox 360)

More realist
I also try the demo and quite enjoy it. As you mentionned, previous version of NHL games I was using good players the have speed and balance to smash opponents... Are sometimes I was hit pretty bad by other and was running/skating after trying to knock them down but it was not feeling right...

Then I played NHL14... Again I use Toews, a good player to hit a guy pretty good... But hey... to play stopped and one guy drop (Thornton) his gloves and comes at me... Obviously He won the fight and for the first time I was like... Man I have to pay the price... I can't use Toews or Crosby to smash other players.. otherwise I loose them for 5 minutes. It makes a lot more sense, it also add some tension because when you get prepare to hit hard, you know that may be you will have to be responsable for what you just did.

It looks like a detail but makes the game so much realistic and you are automatically emotionnaly involved instead of just pressing all the button after the play because you are frustrated after one player...

Habitually I buy NHL games every 2 years but may be I will get NHL14 just because of that... Not that I want to fight all the time but now I have to thing twice before hitting like a psychopath which change the way you play the game and makes it more real...

I'm the same way haha. I buy it every two years, unless there is something dramatic in between that makes me want it yearly.

At first I was doing what I always do, just hitting people. It's so strange actually wanting to hold back and do it at the right time, but it makes it more interesting. Such a small little change that made such a dramatic difference.
