Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn Open Beta | Str N Gaming

Str N Gaming's look at the Realm Reborn Open Beta.

"What can be said about Final Fantasy games in general, but 'Gorgeous' and this game does not disappoint. I was running the game on high graphics and it looked impressive." - Salvador Madrigal of Str N Gaming (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, PC)

I guess its too bad that most of the people that are reviewing the open beta had server problems

meanwhile... I had a wonderful time playing it and had no server issues at all ('_')

I played phase 4, but I plan on completely starting from scratch.

My main problem, as it always has been with Final Fantasy games, is that I have such a difficult time deciding on a name.

I really am indecisive with those kind of things.

I need some sort of magic system.

EDIT: This guy really comes off as a brat at the beginning, and more than a little condescending.

"What can I say about this open beta that would convey my thoughts without going into a cussing fit? Should I start with the servers breaking down for most of the open beta, or should I start with the poor customer support in trying to get the issues resolved after they “fixed” the servers."

Very entitled, and very bratty, imo.

You followed that slice of humble pie with:

" I know a lot of you are going to have strong opinions on this review saying stuff like, “It’s an open beta; it’s not going to run at its best.” But to those people I ask, are you saying it from an objective view or a fanboy view?"

Saying that a beta for a cross-platform mmorpg runs like you would expect is an objective view.

As an mmo scrub even I know what to expect from a beta.

I don't see how there could be anything BUT an objective view to this.

You didn't get exactly what you had hoped for, exactly when you wanted it, so you threw a fit.

That's just my subjective opinion though.

The rest of the preview was typed in a more acceptable fashion, so I'm glad you were able to wipe away the salty tears you had in the beginning.

Most people based on the open beta decide if they are gonna buy a game or not for the servers being down for pretty much 80% of the open beta was a failure imho. I finally ended up just going to the japanese servers which ran with no problems whats so ever. If your trying to win over the customers you lost in the first iteration of the mmo not being able to play the open beta kinda reinforces their already prior experience with the game. And not having any kind of communication with the players about the issues also leaves them foaming at the mouth. As a square enix fan it felt like they did a 3 day beta test to hide the short comings of the game where a weeks worth of normal open beta would have brought to light and as a pre order buyer i am not looking forward to the horror that might be to follow seeing that i cant get back the 50 bucks i spent. If you are just playing the open beta with out any other investment but your time i wouldnt have cared but as a purchaser of the game this is a foul on their part

Normally I try to avoid MMOs as to not get addicted, but I really love the looks of this game. I'd be worried the combo of Final Fantasy and MMO might be too addicting.

You'd be right! I never played an MMO before Final Fantasy 11, I even remember being mad at my wife for buying a FF game that had no single player mode lol. But next thing I know it's 7 years later and all I have to show for it is a lot of rare/ex gear and about another 20 lbs. around my mid section. But to tell you the truth I had so much fun and made so many friends I'm pretty excited to play XIV.

Off topic: if anyone is just starting out on Balmung and needs help getting started or questions about the game feel free to hit me up my characters Prize Fighter.
