Microsoft has been 'smart' with Xbox One U-turns, says Titanfall community manager

Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe believes that Microsoft has been "smart" for altering its policies and listening to feedback on Xbox One, telling that she's "glad that they made a lot of the changes that they did".

"I see all the people who are like, 'Oh, now they're flipping. It's the Microsoft 180'. If you just want to hate them without any sort of... Then you're going to do it and you're going to continue to say like, 'Well it's a negative that they listen to fans'. I really don't want to think that that's the way the world is. I'd like to think that we can say, you know what, good for them, thanks."

"I'm glad that they made a lot of the changes that they did," she added. Me too.

It is best for gamers.

The only people "still" disappointed are those that were never getting the console in the first place and still have no interest.

Perjoss1490d ago

This is not true at all. They still have 1 pretty big u-turn to make, then lots of people will be happy and many more consoles will sell.

you know what I'm talking about!

Nyromith1490d ago

People who don't like kinect are also disappointed because they have only one next gen console to choose from instead of two.
("Xbox One is Kinect"):

"The only people "still" disappointed are those that were never getting the console in the first place and still have no interest."

some still have legit concerns about pricing, kinect being required and how supportive m$ will be in the upcoming years. all reasonable stuff. however you quickly learn there are those who will never buy it no matter what. they are the ones who should be banned from even posting about it. they have personal issues with hidden agendas and many of them wish there post history was not accessible.

article, "I see all the people who are like, 'Oh, now they're flipping. It's the Microsoft 180'. If you just want to hate them without any sort of... they have made changes and most seem to be for the better. but like i was saying, some just want to continue to be as negative as possible for reasons i said above.

nukeitall1490d ago

Although I disagree with many of the changes and wanted the original vision, it shows MS listens and take feedback.

It also shows me how nimble MS is for such a large company. That really re-inforces the strength MS has in responding to consumer (although wrong belief) of what they want.

Everybody makes mistakes, but it is how you respond to them that is important. How you recover!

Instead of having companies tell you to get a second job, when you criticize them that the cost is to high.

MS is stupid from the beginning

They are still missing two big u-turns ...
- A cheaper Kinectless Xbox One SKU
- Improve their offering of XBLA Gold to compete with PSN+.

gamer20131487d ago (Edited 1487d ago )

There will never be a Kinectless sku MS has said this already and XBL is fine the way it is.

I think gamers today care more about a seamless and smooth online experience with lots of features than they do with a glorified game rental service.

2cents1490d ago

It sure has been a rocky road for MS these past few months.

I just can't get over the fact that people still claim that MS don't care about the consumer/gamer/customer etc. sales and profit are the deciding factors in every business venture and to think MS have invested more than Scrooge McDuck could shake a stick at just to hate on consumers is borderline insane.

I understand the anger that many have expressed and I shared in many of those, but I don't need to be immature about it. MS have done everything in their power to try to address the issues that have been highlighted by developers and potential customers. But you can't make everyone happy.

The biggest thorn in their side is the hate on kinect, but again people just don't want to see their vision. Kinect 1 was proof of concept, they shipped it as an addon this generation to get the install base an to decide if there was potential in the device for their desired vision. Unfortunately removing te processor seemed to be their downfall. The kinect one is just too inaccurate to be utilised in hardcore games but the idea was sound.

Also the fact that there was not full integration of the kinect across the xbox 360 experience made it annoying to own because some apps use it some dont and you end up shouting at your bloody tv and nothing happens which is embarrising and annoying. Now they have developed the kinect experience throughout the Xbox one functionality which means that they can really start to utilise its fantastic abilities. Unfortunately we have the PS massive who have hated on the kinect since day one an the hardcore Xbox posse who have never showed an interest already rubbishin the kinect based on the previous generations experience. The proof is in the pudding an until the xbox one is out and devs have done some cool things with it, the negativity will remain.

I am very excited to be owning the Xbox one in all it's glory, and also the PS4 because I have loved gaming my whole life. There are some great times ahead this generation, the only downside I see of this coming gen are the attitudes and lack of respect for either party. Fanboyism has been around for ages but it just seems to be getting more and more immature, aggressive and nonsensical.

I can't wait for them both to come out so I can fill my spare time with the games instead of having to sift through tonnes of hate just to find some interesting news and comments about my favourite pastime.

Wizziokid1490d ago

Micrsofot only did a flip because of poor pre-orders, nothing more and nothing less. They didn't care about consumer wants they just care about making the $$$.

malokevi1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

So I guess pre-orders have nothing to do with consumers?

Give me a break...

JunioRS1011490d ago

He's saying that if they would have gotten adequate pre-orders before the changes then there wouldn't have been any U-turns "for consumers"

What about when Microsoft said "deal with it" and "just get an Xbox 360" ? They were going to shove it down your throat if nobody protested by not buying their product.

malokevi1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

"if nobody protested by not buying their product. "

Notice the term "if" in your statement.

Implying that their original plan is something that never actually happened, because consumers were heard.

What other explanation is there?

True_Samurai1490d ago

That guy who said "deal with it" doesn't represent the whole company. He was just another tech employee defending the policies. Now as for the "Get a 360" I'll take that then "If you can't afford our console than go get another job"

buynit1490d ago

How stupid can you be? If xb1 had great pre orders of course they wouldn't change it, ppl are telling ms that they liked the direction but in this case not many liked it voted with their wallet so ms changed it..

Wtf is wrong with you ppl? I would understand if ms launched the damn console the way they wanted it to be but the flocking thing doesn't even have a release date yet! Y'all bs is so damn ignorant already..

Clearly you are not getting it and never was so stop spilling all that shit out your mouth already

stuna11490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

And you got all those agrees!? Everyone knows preorders are from the consumer, but just for the sake of the argument, look back then, now look at now. If not for Microsofts 180's, now would be looking like then!

OK, then I'll go another route! No changes are made, the XBox 1 would be finished as a console on the market! The outcry from consumers was proof of that! No random rant of a misguided fan was going to change the eventual outcome! Microsoft saw what was happening, therefore they made changes! No what if's involved.

malokevi1490d ago

" If not for"

again, this word IF keeps popping up from all the detractors.

If flaming meatballs came hurling out of the sky I would go inside. But it just doesn't happen.

If Microsoft was making a horrible console with a complete disregard for the consumer, I probably wouldn't buy their console. But they aren't, and I am.

....See where I'm going with this?

malokevi1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

" No changes are made"

You literally repeated yourself with that edit. Just put an IF at the beginning of that statement. Just because you didn't directly say the word "if" doesn't change the content of your statement, lol. You're still saying that "if" no changes were made, Xbox would be done.

If monkeys and marsupials could mate, we might have some killer kangaroo-moneys... but sadly that's not the case.

....see where I'm going with this?

People can base their appraisal of the console on hypothetical scenarios as much as they want. I can't even begin to understand why anyone in their right mind would do that, but there it is.

stuna11490d ago

Changes have been made to the XBox 1! That is why they did the 180's, because the original XBox 1 is not what the majority wanted! No matter how you try to word it, the initial unveiled XBox 1 concept or otherwise planned version is not what Microsoft is marketing now! It has been severely altered, for better or worse. That's not to say that things can't be re-implemented, but as of now the here and now is different from yesterday.

malokevi1490d ago

I don't think there is a single person here, or on this planet, that would deny "changes have been made".

Sounds to me like you're having a conversation with yourself, here.

Oh look another anti-Microsoft troll!

Because Sony and Nintendo don't care about making money. They just love all consumers!!!

stuna11490d ago

No one is saying Nintendo and Sony aren't about making money! It's just not to the detriment of their consumers!

If you enjoy allowing Microsoft to use your back as a springboard, while their diving into a pool full of cash, so be it.

How's that coming by the way?

JBSleek1490d ago

Why you so mad bro??

All companies make changes due to sales...

It's so old. Please get over it.

hankmoody1490d ago

You know what's funny? I keep hearing about how "M$" only cares about making the money. I work in non-profit. Take the time to research how much money they give to charity. I'm sure making money is a priority for them as they are a business (duh) but I've seen first hand how much money they practically toss at medical research, schools, technology solutions, etc. I'm not saying they're the most perfect company in the world but at least they're not stingy with their cash.

mac_sparrow1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

which I imagine they take a tax deduction for, a deduction on taxes they don't even pay.

Not saying one corporation is better than another in this respect, but not paying your taxes negates the generosity you're highlighting.

joe901490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

Yeh because a business wanting to make money by changing something is a dick move.

Any company in the world would change there product if it meant making more money,

Sony saw microsoft make billions off forcing people to pay a subscription to play online and now Sony have now seen that millions of people will pay to play online.Sony now are forcing you to pay to play online. Thats called changing your product to make more MONEY.

Sony don't care about you, MS don't care about you.....they care about the money in your pocket.....sorry to break everyones hearts.

AngryEnglish1490d ago

Wait a minute.... what business doesnt care about making $$$, isnt that the whole idea?

Do you think Sony really care about you? no they dont but they want you to buy the console and everything else electronic, Sony have had their own share of bullshit in the past, hence why the company is not financially outstanding right now, there is a reason that Sony aint even in the worlds top 500 richest companies

Sarick1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

He's just saying.

Company Policy is like Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics.
"A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm."
"A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law."
"A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law."

In this case as with most businesses unless they are charity based.

1. Self preservation of company and/or it's investments.
2. Create products that serve it's interest unless it conflicts with the first rule.
3. Serve the public interest unless it conflicts with the first rule or second rule.

Hopefully, After reading it in a priority list you'll see what he's trying to say. Serving the community is last on the list of priorities. Making the most profit is second and survival is first. At some point a balance is made for rule 2 and 3 to insure rule 1 isn't an issue.

They want to make money so they invest in something that's in demand. If that something conflicts with the community enough that it affects rule 2 they will need to modify it until the community is content enough to support their interest in rule 2.

It's not because Microsoft wanted to listen to the community. They wanted to stay at rule and roll in the money, No they had to take DRASTIC measures and move to rule 1. it's not like it'd kill their business but it would've most likely been less profitable or even unprofitable if they stayed their path.

come_bom1490d ago (Edited 1490d ago )

I'm going to tell you a little secret...

COMPANY'S DON'T GIVE A Sh*T ABOUT CONSUMERS... They only care about sales, making money and positive PR. The more money they make, the better. THE REST IS PR BULLS**T... and this is for every company.

If you believe otherwise, they you are very naive.

green1490d ago

You know consumers vote with their wallet right? So if the X1 is not selling it is because consumers were not happy so it has everything to do with consumers.

I wouldn't call it smart as it was say one policy, see massive backlash with low pre-order numbers, then just get rid of those policies. What is really smart about it? It would have been dumb to plough on but that doesn't mean it was smart to reverse the policies. Just conmen sense

Kevlar0091490d ago

It only took countless gamers to tell them their policies were terrible and would only hurt sales. So if common sense is the same thing as being smart then yes, they were smart.

kayoss1490d ago

I wouldnt say they were smart. I would say that they learn the hard way.

Kevlar0091490d ago

Which is what I said. It only made good sense to revert the unfavorable limitations
