New inFAMOUS: Second Son video shows DUALSHOCK 4 integration

Hello again from Germany! We just kicked off our Second Son behind closed door presentations for our media friends here at gamescom, and we wanted to give you all a glimpse at what we’re talking about behind the scenes. We’re using the new DUALSHOCK 4 controller for the PlayStation 4 in some really cool ways to bring players even deeper into Second Son with new gameplay controls and mechanics, making them feel like they’re superhuman themselves. (inFamous: Second Son, PS4)

Dear Lord, that looks astonishing! xD

The game movements are way faster than I thought, stringing attacks and rushing through the environment looks like a blast. It's smooth too, really fast without being "jerky".

I'm hyped for that controller.

I wish they'd release a PS3 version of the DS4, just minus the track pad.

Second son looks amazing.

I had concerns bout touch pad input but after seeing this vid, guess I can see it work quite well.

Great controller. Never heard this kind of buzz about a controller before. Guess they nailed it.

And Infamous Second Son looks like the perfect next gen game. Assassins Creed 4 & Watch Dogs look cool but I am more excited about a game made only for next gen. Ported games with better graphics are fine but next gen is all about using the 5+GB Ram consoles will have.

We are in for a treat with Killzone & Infamous. Will we ever be able to go back to PS3 after playing these?

Amazing graphics. Who needs a $1000+ PC.

People looking to play their games in 1080p @ 60fps EVERYTHING, 2k - 4k @ 30 - 60fps, Max settings, better AA (smaa), game altering mods, and you know a bunch of other stuff consoles haven't been able to do yet.

inFamous looks great though, which is why I'm happy being a PS / PC gamer this gen.

If I had the money I'd love to buy a exspensive as hell PC that runs everything at 144FPS at 144HZ in 4K EVERYTHING Maxed out. I'd cum. But I'm not awesome enough to be that rich );. PS4 will be more than powerful enough to play games on max in 1080p. And dem exclusives. I REALLY want yo play RIME Killzone:shadow fall and iNFAMOUS Second Son.
ABizzel1  +   239d ago

That's the purpose of a console. It provides a good enough gaming experience for everyone at an affordable price point. As well as exclusives games from their first party studios. The PS4 won't be running every game 1080p @ 60fps (although it's possible with lower graphical settings, but that defeats the purpose), but it's going to provide a good enough experience for anyone purchasing the console. If you want to max out everything then you need a $1000+ PC.

4k @ 144fps isn't happening no time soon with next-gen graphics.

I think Infamous SS will be 1080p, 60fps.
PC gaming definitely has its benefits if you're willing to pay for them though. I like the simplicity of console gaming.

@Family Guy

I doubt it. My guess is 1080p @ 30fps, but it already looks locked in that framerate which means it's probably a bit higher than that (maybe up to 40+ fps at times of no action), but locked in for complete smoothness.

I dread what kind of annoying crap developers are going to make you use that touch pad for.

I'm afraid it's going to be worse than Sixaxis.

F off
UnHoly_One  +   239d ago
Well that seems like a perfectly valid response.

Wow. Classy.
LordNikon  +   239d ago
Or... it does the complete opposite of what you said.

I guess people like you would rather see the world burn than be positive/open-minded/unbiased about something you haven't even used yet.
UnHoly_One  +   239d ago
I'm quite open minded, and if it is used for something cool I will admit that, I just generally don't like gimmicky things, I just like a plain old "regular" controller.

I have always hated having to tilt something, or shake something, I just want to press buttons.

Maybe this will be cool, I obviously have no way to know. Hell, even Sony doesn't know, because they don't know what devs will use it for in a year or two or three.

I'm merely expressing my skepticism.
LordNikon  +   239d ago
Okay, that's a fair opinion.

I can imagine some games using the touchpad in a cool way. So i'm interested in seeing how it turns out. The sixaxis on the other hand has always been an unpleasant feature imo.

I've heard only great things about the controller and I want it but...
They mentioned smaller deadzones and that's good BUT I remember what DICE and microsoft did to me in battlefield 3 on the xbox 360.

The controller worked fine for awhile but then the stick would not go back to center 100.00% so I could not put down a bipod or do other things to save my life :(. I'd have to try so many times to get things to work and that SUCKS.
We are talking a VERY tiny distance away from perfect and it still wouldn't work often.

EVERYTHING ELSE on the controller worked great, I shouldn't be forced to buy a new one because of one tiny problem that could be fixed by either of them. Maybe they designed it that way on purpose to make $40-60 each from the millions of players, who knows.

So PLEASE contact your favorite devs and make sure they include dead zone options in their setup menus in game :).

controllers look nice going to get black blue and white
Gravity_DoGG  +   240d ago
Link to White controller?
More controller gimmicks for the casuals.

This is why "next-gen" console gaming fails. The only platform worth owning after the gen of the PS3 will be PC.

I want a full on quick select wheel by the end of the game, for all the different kind of powers.
