Small and independent publishers see good business in the Nintendo Wii U

Digitally Downloaded writes: "To hear the small and independent publishers talk about the Wii U, it does not matter that the console has only managed to shift a couple hundred thousand units in the last quarter; it’s still a big opportunity.

In fact, it works to their benefit that the likes of EA and Ubisoft are scaling back their interest in the platform." (Nnooo, Ripstone, Wii U)

I could see the wii u becoming a creative haven in a world of big budgets and technical pretention.
The gamecube owners bought good games like viewtiful joe and killer7, at least they bought them at comparitively higher numbers given the ps2 had 6 times the consoles out there.
Too early to tell, but original, quirky games like W101 and bayonetta 2 could sell fair enough on the wii u off their exclusivity and creativity. The no more heroes games did pretty well, for example.
I often find myself flopping between liking the wii u as a system that will offer an original experience, and disliking it for doing the same thing. Here's hoping the games push me towards the former.

Nintendo is making it pretty easy for Indies to develop for the WiiU. Several times they've been the first to ask for a title to come to the WiiU, and offered consultation and support to get them on.

With how crowded the Mobile market is home consoles are a smart alternative for Indie devs, they don't need to underprice or undervalue their games to get noticed
