DTS-HD Master Audio Available for Playstation 3 Starting April 15th

DTS, Inc., a digital audio technology company dedicated to delivering the ultimate entertainment experience, has announced that its DTS-HD Master Audio technology is now available for the PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) computer entertainment system. DTS-HD Master Audio is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master at super high variable bit rates (up to 24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray Discs). This bit stream is so fast and the transfer rate so high that it can deliver 7.1 audio channel, 96k/24-bit sound identical to the original studio master. DTS' single-bit-stream codec design enables supremely efficient content programming and consumer playback. The new PS3 with DTS-HD Master Audio will be available by simply downloading the upcoming firmware upgrade on April 15th, 2008.

The best thing about this generation of consoles to me is the updates.

fenderputty3538d ago

they help slow down hackers. They help shut up the critics. They help keep the users happy. Not every update is as valuable as the next and, some of these updates should have been here day one but, at least things can be changed and fixed and upgraded throughout the systems life.

Now I need to buy some speakers that will take advantage of it. 5.1's just don't cut it anymore.

Lucreto3538d ago

Can you even buy 7.1 speakers?

fenderputty3538d ago

lol .. it's rather useless though unless your have a really large room that the sounds has to fill. Plus ... I just spent a decent amount of money on speakers so, I'll be fine. Still ... it's nice for those crazy audiophiles.

Oh HELL-YAH!!!!!! Let the 7.1 shake the neighborhood!

Again, I see there is some confusion: Speakers themselfs arent 7.1, the 7.1 refers to 7 speakers for full surround sound and a seperate subwoofer for the low frequences or bass. Plus you will need a Reciever to output sound to 7.1 or to allow you to send sound to that many speakers.

For instance I have a Pioneer Elete reciever which will suport 7.2 chanel surround sound and (DTS Master) Digital Theatre Surroundsound and Master 1500 watts. Cost 1500.00 about a year ago

Then I have 7 Difinitive audio speakers, a center chanel, to towers for front L and R. and 4 surround speakers for side and back surround sound. Then a difinitive supercuber sub woofer with a 1500 watt amplifer. Total Cost 5500.00 4 years ago

You can buy cheeper or more expensive set ups of course.

fenderputty3538d ago (Edited 3538d ago )

I don't think so. Note the word think though. I'm pretty sure you have to just buy two extra bookshelf speakers to connect to your 7.1 receiver. I'm probably wrong though. I'm not into audio as much. I like it but, I'm not super into it.

EDIT: I'm almost positive I'm wrong. lol

"Can you even buy 7.1 speakers?"

If you're worried about DTS-HD MA, and you have an appropriate receiver that will receive LPCM through HDMI, you won't be buying any X.1 speakers, you'll be putting it together yourself normally. So two fronts, a center, and two sets of surrounds (which can be surrounds or match your fronts etc.)

My only gripe was not bitstreaming HD dolby, this is why better. My amp is sweating in fear.

Columbo3538d ago

Anybody know of a good website that lists all of the Blu-ray discs and what audio codec each uses?

UGA_13538d ago

highdefdigest.com is good, if you read a bluray review, look in the left column for audio specs.

Rob4Vendetta3538d ago

a little research isnt bad every once in a while man

Carbon3538d ago

From what I've seen is that all Blu-Ray disks are supported is DTS. Just from what I've rented.

Zhuk3538d ago

Sony should think about making a few decent games as an update instead of adding useless codecs so audiophile geeks can wank over them

eagle213538d ago

Microsoft should try buying a real brand chump. :)

marinelife93538d ago

Bubbles for Eagle for speaking our minds.

You know what they say about people in glass houses Zhuk.
Microsoft needs to spend more time making a console that works 100% of the time.

InYourMom3538d ago

Nothing works %100 of the time, including the PS3.

MS has worked on fixing the problem and maybe you haven't heard about the new revisions of the console that are in stores now that are not breaking with RROD like the launch systems were.

Let it go..

pwnsause3538d ago (Edited 3538d ago )

oh look its suck..I mean Zhuk, how you doin man, how does your A22hole feel after all the good PS3 news coming in?
