July NPD – Xbox 360 Hits 31 Consecutive Months as #1 Console in the U.S

Xbox 360 continues to maintain its lead in the U.S. console market. Xbox 360 sold 107,000 units, more than any other console in the U.S., making July the 31st consecutive month Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the U.S.

Seems legit. Xbox One will replace my old 360 :)

JokesOnYou3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Yeah clearly the 360 is become the gamers choice in America. Shows the brand is still strong it will be interesting to see how this translates over the first year and beyond for the x1.

ohiostatesman3899d ago

Hell yeah. Go Xbox. It's funny it really doesn't matter what you read online especially on n4g. Xbox is a success and the people's champion out in the real world.

karl3899d ago

the rest of the world asks u..

what the hell North America?

black0o3899d ago

i'll gve it another 2-3 months to remain at #1 until PS4 arrives

HammadTheBeast3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Well it's New.Xbox.com, so I can't see any hint of bias there.

Edit: Didn't want to waste any bubbles on you, care to explain how they say that it's the #1 console in US when Nintendo 3DS has held that title for a while now?

JokesOnYou3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

yeah Hammad but its not an opinion piece its just facts based on NPD. You OK Buddy?

black0o3899d ago

@hammad for the 1st time i do agree with @jokes the source is NPD

3899d ago
Convas3899d ago

Welp, according to Hammad:

Console = Handheld

Whatever you say there captain.

Deadpoolio3899d ago

How sad that even though they sell more consoles per month they are still in 3rd place behind a console that came out an entire year after the 360...Oh yeah that's right they would rather just tout that they sold more per month and pretend they aren't in 3rd in total sales

buynit3899d ago

Deadpoolio..

I look at it different... Remember those xbxox ps2 numbers? Yea.. Nothing like that anymore now is it..

Hicken3899d ago

@Convas:

Uh, no. According to Hammad:

Handheld=Console

And it is, so yeah...

kreate3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Well.. to be fair.

One can also argue that the ps3 was the top selling console in japan, korea, hong kong, singapore, phillipines, france, germany, italy, etc etc for so many consecutive months compare to 360's success in only 1 country.

I know its npd but since ppl are arguing sales I'm just putting out another persepective.

While I do congratulate Microsoft for their sales in america, I also gotta question if they care about their gaming brand on a global scale.

I mean, if sony focused only in 1 country and shut their ears on the rest of the world, I'm sure they'll be no. 1 as well. Or no.2 whatever u want to put them as.

nukeitall3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

@kreate:

Well to be *really* fair.

The combined marketshare of
all those countries listed is a fraction of the largest console gaming market in the world, the US!

In addition, NPD is considered as official as it gets when it comes to sales numbers. I'm not aware of the other countries have similar numbers released.

If not, then what are the news to report?

We do get numbers from Japan, every now and then, but we don't say "oh, my God, Japan isn't the world!".

"While I do congratulate Microsoft for their sales in america, I also gotta question if they care about their gaming brand on a global scale. "

What idiot thinks MS don't?

They are going to Gamescom and sell their products on a pretty global scale!

kreate3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

@nukeitall

*'The combined marketshare of
all those countries listed is a fraction of the largest console gaming market in the world, the US!'

individually they're smaller, but combined, the world's market is larger than the US.

*'They are going to Gamescom and sell their products on a pretty global scale!'

having a product available on a global scale doesnt mean it will sell. its just there. they should make a effort to sell it in foreign lands. looking at the sales, the entire planet doesnt seem to care about xbox games other than america. giving the benefit of the doubt, the next in line is UK than Canada.

im just saying microsoft should make more variety of games other than halo and gears. cuz different ppl want different games.

they should also make some games themself than just relying on 3rd party companies to make games for them.

i have a xbox360. there's nothing to play on it since 2011 other than kinect games. so im currently collecting old games that are dirt cheap cuz there was plenty of games from 2006-2009 for the 360.

3898d ago
JokesOnYou3898d ago (Edited 3898d ago )

Kreate discussing foreign sales in a NPD thread, where NPD has officially been used by both companies in the past to reference sales data. Yet you rattle off all these other countries and provide not 1 link to backup your claim....sure simple math points to ps3 is doing better overall in those regions for year end totals but there is nothing that says by how much in each country and for how long in other words 360 might have been up a few months out of the year in a couple locations but maybe ps3 wins big on holidays without specific data we cant compare apples to apples with NPD info. oh I know why don't I just take your word for it.

kreate3898d ago

@jokesonyou

ur right. apologies for bringing foreign sales arguement in a npd article.

as far as links goes... which one do u need?

JokesOnYou3897d ago (Edited 3897d ago )

Well you said this:

"One can also argue that the ps3 was the top selling console in japan, korea, hong kong, singapore, phillipines, france, germany, italy, etc etc for so many consecutive months compare to 360'"

-So besides Japan how about a link with month to month sales data for ANY of the other countries YOU mentioned?

Im actually very curious because its a given Japan identifies itself with a Japanese centric gaming culture that nintendo and sony thrive in but I've never seen anything specifically for the other countries.

kreate3896d ago (Edited 3896d ago )

@jokesonyou

if ps3 outsold xbox360 in worldwide sales, but gets outsold by xbox360 in america, where do u think the ps3 sales came from?
u saw the npd articles, xbox360 dominates ps3 for 31 consecutive months. well how would a ps3 outsell the xbox360 in worldwide sales?

they all came from japan?

i just did a quick google search and here are a few links ive found. im not gonna bother doing any intensive research cuz i really dont care enough where i want to spend much time on this matter.

and i dont know if u care, but vgchartz is always available. i just didnt want to use vgchartz cuz its somewhat flimsy.

25 million to 70+ million next-gen2next-gen growth is a WIN for Microsoft..They going nowhere...regardless of the fanboys whining that have no intentions of getting the Xone.

It started rough loosing money but have been on the greener side of things the last couple years..

After all the bottom line has been growth with the brand..

Mikeyy3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

If you thought the backlash from the X1 reveal was simply sony fanboys, you are in for a rude awakening.

30k likes and 20k dislikes on a youtube video is far beyond the reach of a group of fanboys, its real customer resentment.

and were talking a video from a week ago, post all the 180s, there is still angry former customers.

kewlkat0073899d ago

Trust me, I'll be playing the XBone when it launches with 3-4 games pre-ordered on that faithful day.

There will be nothing rude about it.

I'll let you and others with no interest fight over sales.

_FantasmA_3899d ago

And then RROD will make you replace it again. And then RROD will make you replace the replacement. And then RROD will make you replace the one that was replaced by a replacement. Or you could just get PS4 and PC. Your welcome.

Cool when it is number one worldwide. Come back and talk to me.

OC_MurphysLaw3899d ago

Ahh...you mean the Wii.... got it.

As to the numbers, not a great month for anyone.

aceitman3899d ago

@ after thought u mean like this right ,
http://www.vgchartz.com/wee...
boom baby boom.

HammadTheBeast3899d ago

Where are you going with this? 3DS is first, then PS3 is second.

aceitman3899d ago

@hammadthebeast I didn't mention any console I replied to afterthoughts comment and yes 3ds is 1st ps3 2nd and 360 ummm at 3rd not 1st. it is 1st in usa ONLY . so when its 1st world wide then I thinks it can boast about sales in consecutive times . its not like its a wide margin then maybe I can see them boasting. 3ds is on fire. ps3 is on a roll and 360 is really losing its steam .

PSNintyGamer3899d ago

Wait, I thought it was 3ds according to this article

http://n4g.com/news/1333986...

Which one is it?

desertpunk863899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

u.s.a!u.s.a!u.s.a!u.s.a!u.s.a! u.s.a!

ABeastNamedTariq3899d ago

I thought it was the 3DS? I guess they mean home consoles, duh. Good for them though.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil4d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai3d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing693d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle3d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal3d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa3d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal3d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing13d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II - PC Wore it Better

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II was an intriguing and unique RTS title, that sadly suffered in its console port.

dadavis19923d ago

Was just thinking about this game and wishing I had a way to revisit it. The way EA scrubs these titles from existence once their licensing runs out is horrid.

Michiel19893d ago

there is a client made by modders and it also works online.

kevco333d ago

Indeed. The game can still be played online on PC.

Xbox 360 players, though? Bang outta luck.
