CANDLE Indie Kickstarter game uses Direct X11, and is Confirmed for Wii U.

It is confirmed by Teku Studios that the Wii U will be able to ADAPT to Directx 11 features since Directx is exclusive to Microsoft. Teku Studios replied in the comments section to clarify how they are using Directx 11 features in the Wii U.

“We really want to take Candle to Next-Gen consoles, so we immediately talked to Nintendo and showed them our precious game.”

“We love Nintendo platforms since our childhood has been full of them, so it was natural for us to go for it. We are already thinking about dedicated gameplay on Wii U – we are not doing any kind of quick port. We will designe specific gameplay features for its gamepad: all the menus, inventory and minigames will be tactile-controled on the touchscreen, as well as other unique actions concerning Teku’s candle. We will talk more deeply about this when we start developing all that stuff.”

"Just to clarify, we will ADAPT our DirectX11 features to Wii U, not that it supports them natively."

Give these developers props for working with what they've got.

WiiU is opengl same as sony ??? whats ur point wiiu can surpass dx11 when using its edram section and cache easy with opengl.

fossilfern1921d ago

But what version of OpenGL does the WiiU use and what technologies does it support. Thats the question.

lilbroRx1920d ago

@Fossilfern, it seems to be a Nintendo tweaked version and we know that is supports a lot of DX11 only features, because the Project CARs devs are listing them for the Wii U version in their dev changelogs.

WiiU gpgpu is a custom E6760 very powerful, and very very powerful when using its edram section, and yes the gpu does support DX11.1 or Opengl 4.2 theres ur answer.

It's what developers mean by bringing the dx11 features over basically converting DX to Opengl is all it means,Opengl has had tesselation for years and years, wiiu can handle any nextgen game period,Dennis dyack has said there is nothing in the demo they shown that wiiu can't do,and also claimed on many occasions wiiu does DX11 features all day long.

Here is the quote from Teku Studios clearing up what they are doing with Directx11 features for the Wii U.

"Hi guys! Teku Studios here.

Just to clarify, we will ADAPT our DirectX11 features to Wii U, not that it supports them natively. However, we are very happy with Nintendo and its console, and we think that it well deserves that extra effort :)

Thanks for your comments!"

well that's obvious, WiiU doesn't run DX11 natively and neither does the PS4, the only ones who can are the Xbox1 and PC, WiiU and PS4 use OpenGL equilivants so both have to adapt the features

RicardJulianti1921d ago

They key thing to remember....is that anyone using DirectX 11 is going to have to adapt the features if they plan on putting it on anything that isn't Windows or X1.

DirectX is a Microsoft product and no one else is going to be using it natively. Wii U uses OpenGL 4.whatever....equivalent of DirectX10.1 plus features from DirectX11. PS4 uses the Plastation Shader Language "PSSL" and anything will need to be adapted.

falcon971921d ago

WiiU uses Opengl 4.1 its a custom E6760 guys basically a dx11.1 card ???

RicardJulianti1921d ago

Basically no one knows exactly what it is...or even what all it is capable of. People who analyze die-shots for a living aren't even sure. The only ones who know are under extremely strict NDA's from Nintendo.

We do know that it is based on the OpenGL equivalent of DirectX 10.1, but has features that are found in Direct X 11. I guess you could call it DirectX 10.5 or something silly like that.

As far as an off the shelf equivalent, there isn't one. It's simply far too customized to definitively say "Oh, use such and such card in a PC to get similar performance"

Nintendo is going to squeeze much more out of it than anyone probably figures at this point. I mean, it's pushing things better than the PS360 while using a fraction of the wattage. That in itself is an excellent piece of engineering.

Wii U supports DX11?.. Wh?..

truechainz1921d ago

Wish more devs were like this. Not even because it is for Wii U but these guys are passionate and want their games to get out into multiple people hands. I applaud and will pick this up.
