Is Wii U's eShop right for your game? Indies sound off

gamasutra:

While the indie publishing policies of Xbox and PlayStation capture a lot of attention in the press and social media, the state of Nintendo’s do-it-yourself scene is a relative blip on the game industry radar.

But the truth is that Nintendo, just like its console rivals, is becoming increasingly friendly to small, independent developers. Tools and initiatives like Nintendo Web Framework, Unity engine support, eShop distribution and self-publishing mean more opportunities for developers that have limited resources.

I would love to give more indie games a try before i buy approach. Truth is, not many are in that type of setup.

On xbl you can dl a trial of pretty much all indie games but i just dont see as much support on the ps store or the eshop for that. there are some but there should be more.

All 3 are doing what they can to promote indie games and we as the gamers should do our part to support them as well. Try before you buy has helped me decide on the games that are appealing to me and lead to a purchase supporting the indie scene.

I would love to see the same setup for the eShop. I agree, getting to download a trial of the game which sometimes can be a large chunk of the game just missing things like achievements can be a great way to test out the game first to determine if it's worth your money. Some of the larger titles that show up on the eShop like Trine 2, Ducktales, Cloudberry Kingdom, etc are obvious purchases, but there are lots of smaller, less known titles that I have no clue if I will even enjoy. Having a chance to sample it briefly will save me the heartache of spending $9.99 on a whim and hope that I like the game.

The fact that there seems to be an abundance of indie support is a great sign though. There are lots of high quality indie titles releasing, and if Nintendo can ensure that these games will appear on the Wii U then it will definitely help drive further console sales down the road.

How about more coverage from gaming media?

It's not gamer's job to promote indie titles. Heck, a lot of times I don't even know they exist.

But try finding previews for some cool upcoming or recently released indie titles on Gamespot or IGN and you're in for a long shot.

The Doritocracy promotes certain games because it's all about ad revenue, good indie games be damned.

Usually you won't hear about a good indie title until it's already popular.

Indie games are very fun and cheap, with so many main stream companies losing millions and millions of dollars on poor game sales, indie games maybe the future of console gaming, I know the wii u has some very interesting titles coming out, that I ma really looking forward to!

Some indy games are a lot of fun and cheap.

Some are dull as hell and/or obscenely overpriced.

Speaking of the former, anyone know if the WiiU is getting Mighty Switch Force 2? Love the first game on my WiiU, but seeing the second in the 3DS eshop is just so tempting.
