The Current Generation was the Toughest So Far

We Gained, But We Also Lost

The end of the current generation is just a few months away now, and as things wind down to a close, there’s one thought that makes me a little sad; there were many casualties in this current generation. It’s not unheard of for games to be cancelled during development; Blizzard’s killing of StarCraft: Ghost is still a bitter pill for many to swallow, but we didn’t just lose games. We lost developers and even publishers. When you stop and look back at how many people lost their jobs over the last few years, it becomes clear that the transition to the first HD generation caused many people to take risks they couldn’t recover from. Here’s a quick summary of the people that gambled on this generation and lost in big ways.

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88135d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183134d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie133d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.

Technical issues aside, this is easily one of my favorite games from last gen.

ClayRules2012818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

I couldn’t agree more. I’ll never forget the emotional experience I had with this game. After waiting all those years, and than to finally play it. It was a visual beauty, along with offering a story/friendship between the 2 characters that was unique and unforgettable. Far surpassed my expectations. A masterpiece!

Technical issues aside, never have I played anything quite like it!

Magog818d ago

I enjoyed the game but it started out too simple and easy. If the entire game was as intense and challenging as the last 20% it would have been a 10/10 experience.

EvertonFC818d ago

Great game, so underrated. One of my favourites and top 20 games of all time

Phoenix76818d ago

I managed to grab the collectors edition for £40 about a year after it released. Was an enjoyable game, but I had just finished Shadow of the colossus, and whilst I enjoyed it, it was not as good when compared.

Cancelled Factor 5 Superman Game Details and Gameplay Videos Surface

Details, plans and a gameplay video, as well as a prototype video of the cancelled Factor 5 Superman game has surfaced thanks to the Lead Developer.

Crazyglues1009d ago

Wow, looked amazing, it's a little rough but you get the idea, with a little polish this could have been an awesome Superman game...

slowgamer1009d ago

yeah, really cool clip. Gave an actual superman feel.

excaliburps1009d ago

FYI that's the "prototype" clip and the actual gameplay one is in the post...it's not looking that hot but mostly due to unfinished animations, textures.

Timzster1008d ago

Wish we got this as a Superman game back in that generation of consoles. It would have washed away the stain that was Superman 64 and given us something to remember.

isarai1009d ago

Wow, i'm impressed that they actually managed to do the crashing through buildings thing, Destruction looked pretty cool

FreeckyCake1009d ago

Factor 5 are renowned for their interesting ideas ( like Lair), sad this was cancelled along with their bankruptcy.

Rambokind1008d ago

Factor 5 is still around; their parent company went bankrupt, Brash Entertainment.

BrainSyphoned1008d ago

Even factor 5's website says they are done.

"In 2008, due to massive changes in the game industry and the unexpected closure of several publishers, Factor 5's studio in Marin County had to stop production on multiple major titles, resulting in a closure in early 2009. Factor 5's spirit of excellence though lives on in several new ventures by its team members, both in cutting-edge technology and design that have reached and entertained many millions of living rooms"

Looks like some of the Devs have been working with Epic Games since 2019.

"Both Julian Eggebrecht and Achim Moller have joined Epic Games at the new studio, taking on 'Director of Online Technology' and 'Cologne Studio Director' roles respectively. "

ApocalypseShadow1009d ago

That's a shame. There was potential like that canceled Flash game
