The worry of many for many reasons, Kinect is no longer required. Microsoft is certainly listening to gamers complaints about the Xbox One, it started from the DRM and now the Kinect. Big props to Microsoft.

to me there not listening to the gamers , its the lack of preorders that's making them change there minds (lack of sales equals changes in every business ), they expected the x1 to out sell ps4 in preorders in there territory yet alone worldwide, if it was that easy to complain about something and get it changed we as gamers would be a lot more happier with things in the gaming world. and what pisses me off is they trust in the Kinect 100% so much they made changes to it. not good.and plz its not a fanboy comment its just reality look what happens to businesses when they or there product does not do well.

Neonridr1773d ago

so People were griping that they had to have the Kinect Sensor hooked up to the machine all the time. Microsoft heard those cries and changed it so it didn't require it to be plugged in.

I am still trying to figure out how that is not listening to the gamers in every sense of the word.

You would rather Microsoft say, "Look, we know you don't like the Kinect, but tough $hit you're stuck with it." ??

The sensor will still be included with every system, so the install base for the Kinect sensor is still at 100% of XB1 owners.

"I am still trying to figure out how that is not listening to the gamers in every sense of the word."

They weren't in any hurry to listen to gamers when Adam Orth caused a huge fuss over the next Xbox being always online, which was something that gamers CLEARLY didn't want, and that was months before the Xbox One announcement.

If Microsoft were listening to gamers in the first place, they wouldn't have had to go back and change anything.

Neonridr1773d ago

@GreenRanger - very true, but you can't please everyone unfortunately. But in regards to the always online thing, better late than never ;)

MWong1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

There's a problem with including it with every system. You've previously told consumers that they needed the Kinect for the console to work. Now you're saying to the consumer, "hey guess what you don't need the Kinect to use the console." This clearly is making the pre-order package a bundle with the console & Kinect. Unless M$ is saying the Kinect is free and the console is actually $500.

Honestly, public sway did very little to M$ changing certain policies. The bottom dollar changed M$'s policies.

JokesOnYou1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

Greenranger, yeah sure before they changed it many of you were saying micro doesn't listen now they change it, you swear well its just because of preorders, which I disagree cause preorders are good with sources saying both X1 and ps4 tracking well above last gen. Either way even if its preorders the end result is they fixed the privacy complaint(it was actually already fixed for normal people) now the super paranoid undercover secret agents can't complain.

@aceitman "to me there not listening to the gamers , its the lack of preorders that's making them change there minds"

I think its clear that lower than expected pre-order numbers and very vocal backlash after E3 when they opened up pre-orders got their attention. However this notion of they are not listening is pretty ignorant.

Consumers spoke loud and clear after the reveal and at E3 and backed that up with their wallets. That got MS's attention and got MS's listening. EVERY 180 we have seen them do is directly tied to an issue that vocal consumers had cited. That is the exact definition of listening to your consumer.

I get people may not like the product, to each their own but this argument of "they are not listening to the consumer and just reacting to pre-order numbers" is stupid.

"I get people may not like the product, to each their own but this argument of "they are not listening to the consumer and just reacting to pre-order numbers" is stupid."

They originally told people to buy a 360 if they weren't happy.

Who was it that said: "I'll get on my knees and pray...we don't get fooled again." ;o)

Dlacy13g1773d ago

@TheBrownBandito... "They originally told people to buy a 360 if they weren't happy". Ahh... you are quoting the infamous Don Matrick head of Xbox at the time, who also interestingly at the time of saying that had made a deal with Zynga and was leaving. Sadly for MS they had a leader of Xbox who had no desire to lead Xbox anymore and was counting all the money he was making by moving to Zynga. Do you really think he cared about anything said at that point? DM might be credited for having turned around the Xbox business with the 360 but he did his best to sink Xbox One. Fortunately he is gone, and people at MS are actually listening and reacting in positive ways.

GryestOfBluSkies1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

anyone who thinks they care about the consumer in any possible way is completely delusional.

they made these changes based simply on the feedback of 'im switching to ps4' that was made by the majority of vocal gamers on the internet. all of the polls, some which had votes in the tens of thousands (amazon poll), showed that people werent on board with their policies.

i give them credit for changing these policies and getting some of their fans back. but i do not give them credit for 'listening to the gamer' as if they care about what we think.

Dlacy13g1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

again... "as if they care about what we think"...well if what you think makes you not buy their product then YES they do care about what you think. Why do you think they are changing policy? Because they know you the consumer has voiced your opinion with your most powerful tool...your wallet. Why did Sony create PSN+? Was it the goodness of their heart and because they cared about gamers? No, they were panicked after the PSN Hack and feared they would lose mass amounts of consumers so they created PSN+ to win back sentiment. To Sony's credit it worked and became the foundation of PSN+. Why did Sony put MP behind the paywall of PSN+? Was that "listening to the gamer?" No, it was them making business choices and believing they could make the move with little backlash.

dethpuck1773d ago

Exactly Sony and Microsoft are businesses. They care about one thing profit. I'm tired of hearing how Sony cares about us. Lol I will remember that when I go buy the reasonably priced memory stick for my vita

GryestOfBluSkies1773d ago

i know youre trying to go against what i said, but really youre just backing me up. my point is they are making business decisions. some people are quick to 'give them props' for listening to gamer, as if its out of the goodness of their hearts. no, they are making these changes out of necessity.

dethpuck1773d ago

At the end of the day who cares I'm getting both consoles anyway. I'm kinda sad the nerfed the x1. Both consoles are gonna be the same thing. Very boring. I can't wait for all the awesome exclusives for both consoles

gamer78041773d ago

This was not really a change in policy, different dept heads were saying different things, as usual, did not help matters. From day one you could turn of kinect via software, so it never was a requirement to be on. They just confirmed this week that not only can you turn it off in software, you can also unplug it.
