Nerds Without Pants Episode 28: What's the Deal With JRPGs?

PixlBit | "It's time for another excellent episode of Nerds Without Pants! Oh, you lucky, lucky people. This week, it's all about JRPGs for the main topic, but as always we begin with Consumption Junction.

Since Julian and Angelo bored the pants off of everyone last time, the lion's share of the opening segment is spent on Patrick's vacation to New York City. Museums were visited! Broadway shows were watched! Miis were Street Passed!" (Culture, Final Fantasy XIII, Industry)

Negative Western Critics on Cute & Sexy JRPG Characters(a method for better sales in Japan), is few factors why JRPG developer reluctant to release JRPG in the west.

Surprised CrossingEden hasn't shown up yet. Kinda sounds like him down there as Timesplitter, though.

The arrogance of people over here in the west is what is keeping good ideas from getting out.

Seems like everybody here in the US just wants Brown generic landscapes and Dragons.

I am growing increasingly intolerant towards JRPGs. I just can't stand all the bad writing that is so common in JRPGs and anime and Japanese things in general. You know, the "Onii-san what does it mean to love???" kind of writing? Yeah.

That and it seems the worlds JRPG devs create these days look empty and soulless. FF7's world was amazing and felt new and alive. Now everything looks super clean and super artificial. And everyone looks like a K-Pop idol. It's boring
