Killzone Mercenary could re-spark the life of the PS Vita

With Killzone Mercenary destined to be PS Vitas first major FPS title, could it be a sign of good things to come for the PS Vita in the future?

In Japan, the Vita is actually doing 'OK' (that's about the best I can say at the moment. The average has gone up in recent months), but I highly doubt that KZM will impact that market. Where it might have an impact is in Europe -- in America, not so much because of MS brand loyalty. We'll see but I'm certain is WILL make a difference in the long run when coupled with Tearaway.

LOGICWINS3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

I'm not sure Tearaway will have that broad appeal that will make a significant difference. It may be a great game, but so is LBP..and all of its sequels have sold worse than their predecessors.

AC Liberation, an entry in a well established franchise hasn't even broken 800,000 units WORLDWIDE...yet via some black voodoo magic, Tearaway (a niche new IP) will move Vitas like Big Macs? I don't buy it.

I remember a year ago people saying that COD was going to perform Jesus-like miracles and sell Vita to the mainstream. And of course, I got disagrees for telling people otherwise.

Same s%#t, different day.

IF there is a bundle with a Vita, Mercenary, and an 8GB memory card for $249, then it will most certainly move more than a few units in Europe/America given how enamored gamers have become with the FPS genre.

GribbleGrunger3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

I'm not one of those people who think the Vita will suddenly skyrocket in sales. I think the combination of the two will raise the average sales though. Not by much (alone) granted, but it could help any momentum from other titles. One title can NEVER save a system. It's usually as a result of sustained support (assuming a price drop is out of the question). I don't personally agree that the Vita needs saving anyway to be honest.

LOGICWINS3905d ago

Totally agree. The Vita is selling the way its SUPPOSED to be selling considering that its $249, memory card prices are inflated, and the fact that many gamers would rather put that $249 towards a next-gen console.

For some crazy reason, Sony expected Vita to be the next great thing since Mexican food as soon as it launched.

BattleAxe3905d ago

Sony needs to throw some serious marketing behind Killzone Mercenary in North America, otherwise it won't do very well. Seeing as how Killzone is Sony's flagship shooter franchise, there's no reason why they can't put some marketing money behind this game.

LOGICWINS3905d ago

^^I'm sure they'll market the hell out of it seeing as how Sony has been advertising that Greatness Awaits commercial like mad. Come September we'll see a HUGE advertising push for the PS4/PS3, and the Vita.

mcstorm3905d ago

I have said for a long time that Sony need to re think what they are doing if they want the psv sales to improve. Kz looks amazing on the psv but it will not help the sales of the system that much.

IM not saying Sony need to copy Nintendo but they need to look at what ips sell well on the 3ds and why if they want to become the main force in the handheld world.

I love the console but the games for me have let it down. From early to now.

I do think psv sales will pickup but I don't ever see them getting near the 3ds numbers and I don't see it getting near the psp numbers too.

I maybe wrong but at the moment I don't see any games for the psv that will give it a big boot in sales like Nintendo did with the 3ds and with big name games like pokemon coming soon to the 3ds people will again over look the psv.

sherimae24133905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

700k plus AC liberation sales is not that bad considering the Vita 5m plus user base isnt it, logic-san? ^_^

but everything else you have said, i agree ^_^

at mcstorm:

the vita doesnt need to outsell the 3ds to become a success
all it needs is to be continually be supported by devs and publishers in the long run, specially by sony

and please, sony doesnt need to copy what nintendo ips or make rip off games like pokemon and fire emblem,
sony just needs to put some of its first party games like infamous, gow, gt , etc on vita and im sure it will start to get better from there ^_^

Ju3904d ago (Edited 3904d ago )

The only thing which can sell Vita in large numbers is if Sony can get the price down below $199 (incl. a 32GB flash drive). This will be very tough, though. At the price where it is, it sells OK.

And more full featured console experiences, please (with maybe short "level" game play times on the go). But I want the full experience. Glad KZ will give us this. And, AC is actually a great game. Why other games didn't sell so great is a) install base and b) because the Vita always gets the watered down version. That's a mistake.

@Gribble & Logic

I agree with both of you. Gribble is right in saying that the Vita isn't going to bounce to number 1 simply because of Killzone. It's going to see a sale boost, but the handheld needs more than 1 AAA game to have a continuous sales spike. And as much as I'm looking forward to Tearaway simply for more Media Molecule, it's not going to do it either.

I will say that there's a good chance that a Vita price cut down to $199 will be coming with all the recent ads and sites dropping the price that low (Target, Amazon, Best Buy & Wal-Mart matching). So that price along with Killzone will give the system a much needed spike and show there is demand for the handheld.

However, the Vita's biggest problem are the price of the memory cards and the lack of consistent AAA & diverse games. Vita games launch whenever, and Sony needs to get a line-up for all of 2014. Every month there needs to be at least 2 Vita coming to the system 1 A - AAA, and 1 unique exclusive Vita title (they need to slow the PS3 exclusive down to 2 - 3 per year and focus on PS4 and Vita).

If they can have a detailed and consistent line-up of games like GTA, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Monster Hunter, Gran Turismo, inFamous (Cole's last adventure), Ratchet, Jak, Slay, and focus on creating 1st party Vita exclusives games (like Nintendo does with their handhelds), keep the $199 price, and cut the memory card prices 40% - 50% (and make a 64Gb and 128GB) then the Vita will be just fine.

The problem is getting 3rd party developers to make games for it. Sony has to do better.

I hate to say this, because if you start then devs. are going to want it to continue, but this might be one of those times were you need to pull out the checkbook. M$ spent $1 billion on 15 first party exclusives for the XB1, so maybe Sony needs to pull out $100 million and get 10 - 20 big exclusives out for the Vita ($5 million - $10 million per developer since Vita development cost is significantly less).

Basically all they need is 1 amazing year of games, a $199 price, and reasonable memory cards.

dcj05243905d ago

Honestly the VITA doesn't need monster hunter but I agree. April:Soul Sacrifice May: Nothing of significance June:Marusama Rebirth and motor sport gp 2013, July:Nothing of significance August:Dragon's Crown September:Killzone:MercanaryOc tober:Tearaway November:Nothing December:Nothing January:Nothing Feburary:Freedom Wars March: Localized GOD EATER 2 (hopefully) its all right. But big gaps. Nothing after spring 2014. We still have gamescon and Tokyo Game Show so I expect much more.

sherimae24133905d ago

^^

you listed only the games that have relese date right?

but isnt toukiden, atelier meruru, ys and and blackgate and also ffx/x-2 hd will be out this year

and im sure tearaway is moved by november and blackgate had a november release i think, lets hope the 2 ff is at december

bothebo3904d ago

Well Japan has had a price drop.... America and Europe have not..... not much more to this

KabalsHookblades3904d ago

I cant stand MS as an American, but back on topic. Most Americans are gonna want more FPS on the vita to actually get one and this may work

PSNintyGamer3905d ago

I don't expect a Game like Killzone to re-spark life. The Vita needs more games that appeal to a broad audience. The current library is not very appealing to most people.

Lawking1003905d ago

Killzone is a massive ip, why wouldn't it bring attention?

Cam9773905d ago

What he's trying to say is that this game won't "re-spark" the Vita in general, it may "re-spark" the Vita for the FPS fans, but in general, to be wholly "re-sparked" the Vita will need more variety.

That's all, and I agree with him. One genre can't make a console successful, there needs to be variety so multiple people are appealed to the device.

admiralvic3905d ago

@ Cam977

What genre isn't represented? Seriously, which one?

There are like 10 sports games.
3+ puzzle games.
5+ fighters.
3+ racers.
2+ light novels.
5+ monster hunter games.
5+ JRPGs.
2+ stealth.
1+ side scroller beat em up.
3+ hack and slash.
5+ platformers.
2+ dynasty warriors games.
1 Katamari.
2+ FPS (weakest genre).
1+ open world.
2+ TPS.
etc.

Most of these genres have their heavy hitters and there are more than enough unique titles to satisfy people looking for a unique experience. Sure every genre could have more games, but from a system a little over a year old it's doing well (I would say extremely well considering all the complaints about sales) genre wise.

ritsuka6663904d ago

Killzone is a massive ip'

Really? I'm not actually sure about this...for some reason Killzone never reaches that level of success of games like Halo or Batlefield.

GribbleGrunger3905d ago

It tends to get more appealing after people research the games library and don't just read hit seeking headlines.

bjmartynhak3905d ago

As I always say here on N4g, there are more games that I can currently play =)

admiralvic3905d ago

Most games won't appeal to most people and even then, how many titles do you think it takes to finally have the "appeal". There is already Assassins Creed, a poor attempt at CoD, Resistance (again, poor), Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, PlayStation Plus and countless niche / semipopular games.

So seriously. How much is enough? There is a certain point where you need to accept that Sony is trying things and it isn't working. They just need to lower memory card prices and actually put out more commercials that highlight the SYSTEM not the cross play aspects.

Fergusonxplainsall3905d ago

Those are main retail games but you know you can play PS1 classics, minis and PS mobile games on Vita too.

Also I expect them to really show off the Vita's remote play and announce the inevitable..
..Vita to be able to play PS2 classics.

Memory cards should go down half price, so people can download more.

Salooh3905d ago

It is a big game even if you don't like it , but i agree with the point where it need famous games with real good development..

Kingthrash3603905d ago

psninty.....then please tell me what game will.....THIS game will be the BEST handheld fps EVER. yeah fps are not big in japan but usa/eu its a killer app and will sale vitas....if pikman can boost the wiiu sales then kz will propel the vita....not catapult but propel.if they price drop it at gamescom before kz hits( in month btw XD ) it will be catapulted in us/eu.

I can't wait for this game. It looks incredible. I have a beta code from PS Home during E3 and it should activate next week! Super excited!

dedicatedtogamers3905d ago

All it takes is a spark. Neither GTA nor GTA2 were popular or well known games, and then Rockstar completely scrapped the formula, went 3D, and BOOM GTA3. Call of Duty has been around since 2003 but it wasn't until 3 games and 5 years later when it really became a huge hit (CoD4:MW). There are some games that start off small and then later become a huge hit. Maybe that'll be Killzone.

Perhaps there's a market out there for people who want a AAA fps on-the-go. I mean, no one anticipated Nintendogs or Brain Age to take off, yet here we are...

Lawking1003905d ago

Exactly. Couldn't of said it better.

Salooh3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

Nope , All killzone games are great . why is that ?. Because they are serious when they make a game not like Declassified and resistance. So the vita need good developers with popular games. Otherwise it will stay like this. It's as simple as that..

But i know what you mean , Uncharted 1 was a new ip and not a lot knew about it but it was amazing in it's time and after that it got more popular. Whereas , declassified/resistance were well known franchises but were crap games. That's the difference. People were excited about the vita when they announced these two games but when they saw the failure they put the thought that vita will release games with that level. The perfect vita game that apply your point is gravity rush not these two games..

MGRogue20173905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

I believe that there was a rumor about there being another Call of Duty title in the works for the PS Vita.. so let's hope that one is more impressive than what was shown with Black Ops Declassified.

Don't get me wrong, BO: Declassified is a great game, I love pulling out my Vita while on my lunch-breaks at work & playing 'Hostiles' mode & seeing how long I can survive for, would be nice to have more maps though.. but the Vita can clearly do better than this.. & Killzone: Mercenary shows us that with those gorgeous visuals & running on the PS3's Killzone 3 engine.

Can't wait to grab my copy of Killzone: Mercenary in September.. got it pre-ordered, in fact :)

Guerrilla Announces Shutdown of Servers for Killzone: Shadow Fall and More

In August, online servers for several PlayStation games will shut down, leaving their multiplayer functions unplayable.

purple101637d ago

whrere on earth is the next killzone, im soooOOO thirsty for some proper weighted, (but still fast when running/sprinting) fps gamplay, it felt sooso so good on ps3, with that, lets be honest, very small, quite uncomfortable sixaxis dualshock controller, that was just too small for western sized hands, ok for japanese kids i suppose was the point>??

now with PS5 controller, it would be totally masterfull.

ClayRules2012637d ago

I hear you. I want some NEW Killzone, especially on PS5, with the PS5 DualSense controller with that ever so impressive DualSense of an experience Haptic feedback!

Knowing how far Guerrilla has come since Horizon: Zero Dawn, Killzone can only benefit greatly from their ever growing talent!!

Bobertt636d ago

I think Sony has given up on their exclusive shooters. They haven't released a remaster for the Resistance series or a new SOCOM game either. I don't think Guerilla is in a rush to make Killzone since they have Horizon now too :(.

637d ago
Outside_ofthe_Box637d ago

All I want is for them to build Killzone 2 with multiplayer included from the ground up, keep the gameplay the same, and I'll be happy.

GG with KZ3 and Shafowfall haven't been able to match KZ2 so I don't really have faith in another sequel.

Unfortunate that KZ2 came out during COD era where every game that didn't pay like Modern Warfare was deemed garbage. KZ2's multiplayer is definitely an all time great.

Michiel1989636d ago

since when was kz2 deemed garbage?

MizHDTV636d ago

Right on dude
KZ2 was just a special game to me

sinspirit636d ago

I'd love KZ2 multiplayer again. I also think they could easily incorporate a mode to compete with Battlefield style game modes

Seraphim636d ago

KZ2 was one of maybe a handful of games I actually put time into online. What a blast!! And the campaign was excellent as well. I certainly miss that dark world. Still ashamed I never buttoned up that Platinum.

Storm23636d ago

A remake of Killzone 2 with the same grittiness and feel on PS5 would be f*cking incredible. The SP and MP were just perfect. I played the sh*t out of that game. Would happily pay a lot of money for that.

DarXyde636d ago

Honestly, I don't like FPS games. They're not for me, but I do agree that there was something about KZ2 multiplayer that even someone like me enjoyed.

Sony really needs to get better about tearing down servers. I don't like that they shut them down.

shadowT636d ago

agree, KZ2 was a masterpiece

Muigi636d ago

KZ3 multiplayer was better imo.

Outside_ofthe_Box636d ago (Edited 636d ago )

@Michiel1989
"since when was kz2 deemed garbage?"

As with anything, things don't get the appreciation it deserves until way after it's release.

KZ2 got a lot of flak for it's weighty controls that many mistook for input lag. People didn't like that it wasn't a twitch shooter like CoD. You also had people saying things like "it feels like you're controlling a midget", "enemies take too long to die" (you can't pray and spray in kz2. You have to shoot in bursts for your shots to be more accurate), people complained about the sniping, etc.

This led to a lot of changes in KZ3 that turned the vets off like reducing the amount of variables for bullet damage, getting rid of spawn grenades, etc.

BISHOP-BRASIL636d ago

@DarXyde

I don't think there's much Sony or any other company in that position can do much different about it... Keeping servers running simply cost money, these gomes don't generate none anymore, so eventually they need to pull the plug.

Astrokis636d ago

KZ2 was definitely better then KZ3, but the third one still had strong suits. It’s been many years but I remember something about Shadow Fall being made by a team at GG that did NOT do KZ2 and KZ3 multiplayer which is why it felt different. I remember when I found that out it made a lot of sense about Shadow Falls multiplayer feeling so off.

Horizon zero dawn sold more copies than all of the killzone franchise combined including spin offs on handheld. I guess that's the reason why won't see killzone from guerilla soon. There is at least one more mainline horizon coming out and their second team is working on horizon VR I believe. So it's gonna be a while unless another studio takes over.

Profchaos636d ago

I've been playing a lot of Killzone 2 on rpcs3 with a duelsense combined with the ability to remap controls to a modern standard and bump the game to 60fps it shows that we really need a remaster to probably the best killzone game to date although shadowfall technically beats it in the graphics department art style was so different that they are incomparable

MizHDTV636d ago

I’d be happy with a release of KZ2

John_McClane636d ago

Killzone went to the same place as Socom and Mag, more money in 25 hour single player games with no servers to maintain. Socom was literally the reason I bought a PS2, Resistance FOM the reason I bought a PS3, all gone now.

senorfartcushion636d ago (Edited 636d ago )

Killzone has never been weighted correctly, the jumping never worked.

A new properly-weighted shooter in the Killzone series would be great. More like Killzone 1 and 2 than SF.

I think the issue comes from the fact that the Helghast side is sympathetic while looking like Nazi stormtroopers. The Trump age has led artists to avoid this look entirely.

ironmonkey636d ago

I feel something may be announced soon

ManMarmalade636d ago (Edited 636d ago )

The sixaxis felt fine in my hands since they're small, but the ps5 really made me feel the difference. So ergonomic.

Killzone 2 was/is so good and it still looks good today. The multiplayer was fun as well. If they make a new Killzone I hope it is the style of Killzone 2.

Hauntedasylum8637d ago

I wish Sony didn’t abandon Resistance and Killzone. Those are some of my favorite series on PlayStation. If they’re not gonna make anymore, then maybe a remastered collection of each could be negotiated.

DefenderOfDoom2637d ago

KILLZONE 2 was my reason for buying a PS3. If a new KILLZONE or RESISTANCE was coming out in 22 I would try to buy a PS5 immediately.

Lightning77636d ago

SSOD2 would be big for Sony. The only reason they would be interested in it is if they can turn it into a live service game.

In which I can see that happening.

Hauntedasylum8636d ago

Hell yeah, brother. You and me both.

VanDamme636d ago

For anyone trying to understand @Lightning77’s comment, they had a typo, this should clarify:

SOD2
Superoxide dismutase 2, mitochondrial, also known as manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase, is an enzyme which in humans is encoded by the SOD2 gene on chromosome 6.

Profchaos636d ago

After 5 killzone games including portable Sony felt it needed a break I wouldn't say its abandoned however I believe we may randomly get a ps5 remaster with improved lighting to test the waters and eventually a full blown new game after all you can't just leave shadowfall on that ending

SeTTriP636d ago

Horizon is priority now its a mega franchise for them maybe after Horizon they might revisit.

Imalwaysright636d ago

I refuse to play for online play but there is one game that would make pay for it and that's Resistance Fall of Man. That's the only game that would make me throw my principles out of the window without feeling ashamed of myself.

jBlakeeper636d ago

Remember in the mid 2000’s when nearly every developer started to do FPS or linear third person? Now nearly every developer wants to do open world exclusively because it’s the easiest type of game to leave things out and then expand upon the world with DLC.

So many fond memories of both Shadowfall and Mercenaries Vita online! Shadowfall's SP may have been weak, but the MP was still a ton of fun. I had a lot of time in both, and it's especially tough seeing the Vita's best mp experience get shut down.

RIP my old friends.

LoveSpuds636d ago (Edited 636d ago )

In my opinion, I thought the single player games was really decent too and was treated quite harshly by the critics, but then, I think the Killzone franchise as a whole was kinda under rated by the critics. I always enjoyed the story in these games and I liked the slower, more deliberate gunplay too.

I remember getting my PS4 on day 1 and the first game I installed was Killzone Shadowfall, my workmates and I would play it for hours on end, the mode whish switched between game modes was brilliant.

Killzone: Mercenary multiplayer servers are back online

Over the weekend reports of the multiplayer servers for Killzone Mercenary had been shut down by Sony came out.  However, usually when Sony is going to shut down the servers of a game the company puts out an announcement through its game servers site, but it seemed that Killzone Mercenary’s multiplayer servers had been turned off with no notice to players, and it was not listed on the list on Sony’s server shutdown site.

Seriously does anyone actually still play a Playstation Vita...?

Abnor_Mal1418d ago

Yes, especially when I'm at an appointment sitting in the waiting room.

SonyStyled1418d ago

Yea, played 3mp games in Killzone mercenary last week. I haven’t played it in a bit otherwise. I still have Severed in my backlog but I’ve been chipping at the ps3 backlog this past year. Obviously there isn’t too many new games I’m interested in but frequently sales have games for under $1 so I’ll buy and play as things come up in the store

NecrumOddBoy1418d ago

I platinum'd Severed. It was super awesome!

Good-Smurf1418d ago (Edited 1418d ago )

Still play Killzone Mercenary and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed on it.
But I mostly use it for browsing Pixiv.

IanTH1418d ago

Just to add to the chorus, "yes!"

Got it sitting in its charging cradle (alongside several other older handhelds) for whenever the mood strikes. It isn't a daily thing, but it still gets used. Great handheld that passed before its time.

UltraNova1417d ago (Edited 1417d ago )

It was criminally overlooked. It was the Switch before the Switch. A perfect storm of things against it at the time.

It's sad that Sony gave up on it and handhelds thereafter...

Yep, I still play it. Your problem?

meganick1418d ago

Playstation vita just had a very good n64 emulator released for it, and there's an upcoming dreamcast emulator.

Also just released was Noboru, a phenomenal manga/comic reader.

meganick1418d ago

This is why Sony handhelds fail, because people use them to play free roms and don’t actually buy software.

1418d ago
kayoss1418d ago

i do. Its a great handheld. unfortunately, Sony dont give it the support it should have deserved and the Remote play with PS4 is horrible. Especially with the button layout on the PS Vita for certain games that required all the buttons that are on the Dual Shock.

TheGamez1001418d ago

Great place for jrpgs, indies, and emulation. Remote plays great too. I can see many still playing or finally picking it up for the good library it has.

mynameisthumper1418d ago

Yep, and PSP too! I'll keep repairing them and playing them until I can't anymore. Also, isn't it kinda interesting that for a site full of PS love, most Playstation fans seem to hate Vita? They can't have ALL played it and decided it was bad...right? Just sounds like a group mentality of hate towards an amazing system. Such a shame :/

Profchaos1417d ago (Edited 1417d ago )

Own both loved my PSP easily the best handheld I've played but my Vita I used it mostly for remote play ultimately I was disappointed with the quality of the releases most of my legit gameplay was on PS1 emulation.

Only after homebrew did the vita become special with games like half life being playable

More specifically, if you're wondering why you can no longer play an online match of Killzone: Mercenary on PlayStation Vita, it's because servers have been shut down. That's why I got rid of my Vita because Sony stop supporting it especially with first party titles. I love their home consoles but I won't buy another handheld from Sony seeing how they treated the Vita.

Sol4ris1420d ago

In a world where the Switch exits, there is zero need for a new handheld, especially one from Sony.

Elda1419d ago

There is always room for competition. Personally for me I won't buy a Switch because of my lack of interest of their exclusives. I'll stick to my home console of choice which takes care of my gaming needs.

jznrpg1419d ago

The Switch is a nicehandheld but Sony could easily make a superior machine spec wise and not go the proprietary card route and support it better and it could really do well. Now will they take that risk I’m not sure but I loved my Vita and hope they do. Id love to have remote play with a Sony handheld and PS5 .

My main reason to buy the Vita was because of Sony's first party support the games I was mostly interested in. Once they stopped my Vita just collected dust,so I traded it in for the SNES Mini which I happen to enjoy including adding more classics on the little box.

Sony truly did the Vita dirty.

And somehow Sony get's a pass and no one cares .
I personally own a vita and I do care . Sony fans are blind loyalist hypocrites.

@Jack

Sony got a pass because not enough people had the Vita to make it into a big deal. I have a Vita, and I do care that they dropped support too soon. Overall, I wasn't unhappy with the Vita, but that wasn't because of Sony's doing, but rather 3rd party support providing me with games that I was happy to play on the system.(I like the more niche Japanese games).

But, at least for me, there isn't a pass should I be in a position of having to decide to buy another portable from them. That isn't something I'd jump on board for, and I'd express that reluctance should that time ever come Sony wants to jump back into the market.

I will defend the fact that Sony did indeed support the system fairly well early on. I will criticize their decisions of the memory card, although I understand the reasons behind it. I'll praise how good the hardware actually is. And I'll criticize Sony for dropping 1st party support pretty early, and how much they neglected the system after the PS4 was a runaway success.

In the mean time, the people I see most upset about Sony's dropping of the Vita are the actual Vita owners. By a wide margin. The others that love to just criticize Sony seem hung up on other things as they try really hard to make Sony look bad in areas that they are more successful in, thus have more people that care about that stuff.

@jackB
Who’s giving Sony a pass? Vita owners (like myself also) have been very disappointed and even pissed off with the fact that support and games seemed to dry up after the first couple years. I doubt Sony will make another go at handhelds for quite some time, if ever, but if they do you can bet it will be looked at skeptically by even the biggest PS fans.

Should we throw away our PS4s and boycot PS5 because they gave up on the vita? That would be stupid and doesn’t make someone a hypocrite.

Idiot fanboys on this site need to quit constructing straw men to make themselves seem more woke than other gamers...

DarXyde1419d ago

Persona 4 Golden in my opinion makes Vita totally worth it.

Elda1419d ago

Nice game but I'm not going to hold on to a Vita just for Persona 4 while no other games drop that I'm interested in.

Angrymorgan1419d ago

Plot twist...the ps5 is a handheld...dualsense doesnt have a touchpad.....its a screen 😳😳

rainslacker1419d ago

I feel the same. I'd probably want one either way, but Sony dropped support of Vita way too quick once the PS4 took off. They didn't see the point in trying to make Vita a thing when they could just make money off their home console, and that was kind of a kick in the balls for Vita owners.

Vita was a great machine overall, hampered by some poor business decisions. It actually did have quite a few good games from Sony it's first couple years despite what people said, but Sony stopped caring about 3rd party support before 3rd party support really got going. It's a shame really, because the sales of more niche games on the system was pretty high for a portable, despite it's install base.

If Sony puts out a new portable, I'll give it time to see if they'll remedy the mistakes they made with the Vita. Until then, it'll be low on my list of things to get.
