Watch Dogs won't compromise on gameplay for current consoles

Ubisoft's city-spanning hacker thriller Watch Dogs has been designed as a next generation title, but that doesn't mean that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will have their gameplay compromised. That's the word from Ubisoft itself, in a blog post from the development team on the game's official site. (Next-Gen, PS3, Xbox 360)

I should hope not.

Gameplay quality is totally independent from mechanical fidelity or any other aesthetic variable. All a "next gen" game really is, ultimately, is a shiny new coat of paint slopped over "last gen" gameplay systems.

Hardware generations really haven't effected gameplay since the Nintendo 64 and Playstation allowed for that dramatic shit from 2D game development to 3D game development. That, really, changed everything; subsequent game generations have changed less and less.

I'm sorry but I would never buy this game for the current consoles, why cheat myself?

They've already stated what the next gen is going to look/play like. Which is next gen specs over the current gen. Could be softening the blow to not hurt sells.
i know watch dogs looks great, so don't take this offensively but a lot of this game's charm is it's graphics, if somehow the exact same gameplay experience was using ps2 quality models and animations, it would be a great deal less cool.

ofcourse that's not what's happening but it is to a degree, a degree large enough that i'd only pay 60$ for this game on a next gen platform

How can gameplay be compromised on PS3/360 compared to PS4/XBONE when its exactly the same game?

The days where graphics impact on gameplay was back during the PS2 days, where improved graphics at that time (PC or even XBOX 1) had an impact and improved gameplay

Now that the graphics have reached that certain level, any improvement really makes no difference, therefore the gameplay can't be compromised on PS3/360, unless it has PS2 level graphics.

I wonder if they'll be taking advantage of the PS4 hardware or keeping it down at the same level as the X1?

It sounds like the game was built for XONE, PS4 and PC in mind, then will be scaled down for current consoles. Which would be a good thing for us getting next gen consoles
