nintendoeverything: How do new projects inside Nintendo begin? How are new ideas fostered? Company officials gave an inside look of sorts through an explanation provided to SAIPO.
Interesting read. I like the idea of allowing any employee to come up with an idea and prototype it. Then, if the game is good enough it has a chance to get green-lighted. This is a great way to harness the power of the whole team as everyone knows they have an equal shot at having their idea come to fruition. This is how development studios should function instead of just doing what sells according to the guys in suits.
I hope we will be able to play more nintendo games in the future because we have major problems due to global warming, our industries will be flooded with water and we risk extinction
I don't think we have to worry about that for awhile.
Talk about unrelated...
How many new games has nintendo released to make you consider that these projects get green lighted often?
I dont think they are talking about the Wii U here, its through Nintendo in general. Look at the 3DS. That system has tons of original experiences even if they are part of known franchises. Mario & Luigi Dream Team seems like one of these games. It looks like it does all sorts of crazy new stuff even though it is a Mario game. Nintendo makes alot of stuff that people just consider the same old when its really a lot different than other games in the respective series. Its like Miyamoto has stated, just because a game features different characters than another similar type of game does not mean that game is new. Everyone seems to bitch about the abundance of Mario games and how they need new IPs, but really think about it and determine how similar each of the games in their series are. Mario 64 is nothing like Mario 3d Land or Mario U or Mario Galaxy. While those are all Mario games yes, they are so different that you cant say they are just another Mario game. Would those titles be better if they all featured different characters? All these shooter games and racing titles are bascially the same thing, but they slap a different name on it and people dont see that they are playing the same games over and over and over with just a different title and a few changes. Well, Nintendo changes the mechaincs and other things about their games while keeping the characters and creating the games within the worlds they have already created.
These ideas sre game play ideas that incorporated into existing frachises. Like metriod primes pin ball game play or the water cannon in mario3d. One problem is when cool stories and characters are created and have no real game play, which is why the trade in thing is a problem.
Yea everyone at Nintendo, has their own side projects or whatever. Thought I read that in an interview somewhere.
@Brewin "Well Said" Votes and Agrees for all your comments below and also for this one.
How about new ips? Anyone?
Nintendo will never make a new IP again. They haven't for years because they just reuse the same franchises over and over and make 30 Mario games a year.Nintendo hasn't had an original idea in years and that's destroying the company.
Wow, 30 Mario games a year!? Every Mario game is different though. Sure the New Super Mario series is getting a little tired, but you cant sit there and say that Mario 3d Land, Mario U, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Mario Kart, and Mario Galaxy are the same. They are all extremely different titles held together by the common thread of Mario. Yet most gamers these days will play CoD, Battlefield, Halo, Killzone, Resistnace, Shooter D, E, And F and call them all different games because of the NAME. These games are all bascially the same but with different settings and characters. Thats okay though right?! Id rather have games within the same series that are completely different form one another than a bunch of the same game with different skins levels and weapons. Go troll somewhere elese and enjoy another killzone game
just like W101 and xenoblade are reused and rehashed IPs.
You just went full retard. Never go full retard.
LOL. Sony troll says Nintendo has no new ideas. Goes out and buys 6th Killzone and 6th God of War and 5th Unchared, 10th Call of Duty.
The Wonderful 101 Pushmo Dillion Rolling Western Freakyform Sakura Samurai Harmo Knights Xenoblade The Last Story Pandora's Tower
The manatee method.
isnt that how almost all company do that, will with sony at least with some of their games like journey/shadow of the colossus, dont forget about sly cooper prototype game that Sanzaru Games showed to sony and gave them the green-light to make Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and hope a sequel.
Im sure Sony does this as well. They have the second best first party in all of gaming. Nintendo and Sony think alike in many regards. Great minds think alike and there is a reason why Sony and Nintendo both have such a solid stable of franchises to depend on. Nintendos franchises are just a little more family friendly, whereas Sony has tried to gain the family and adult gamer market.
Doesnt matter, aside from the hardcore Nintendo fans...people are sick and tired of seeing Nintendo rehash the same franchises over and over. I dont care how different Mario U, New Super Mario, Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart, and Mario Galaxy are from one another, thats NOT the point - The point is, were SICK of seeing Mario! Same can be said for Zelda, Smash Bros, Metroid and all the others. It wouldnt kill Nintendo to spin out some NEW IP's!!! They're LONG overdue for it.
@Shadowrunner: I see you in every Nintendo article spatting the same Nintendo is either doomed or is not what people want any more. Yet your ALWAYS posting in Nintendo articles. If your not a fan or have a problem you need to take it else where... Marked you for trolling!
@ Shadowrunner So the millions and millions of people who have bought themselves a 3DS are sick of Nintendo franchises? Last I checked, the 3DS has been the best selling platform for some time now and that is almost entirely consisting of these titles that you CLAIM everyone other than hardcore Nintendo fans are sick of. What are you, 15-16 years old? You are obviously brainwashed. In what scenario does a company need to come up with something new when they have a ton of different franchises that sell like crazy? And they ARE doing new things too, so your point is moot. The Wonderful 101 is an entirely new franchise and Pikmin is relatively new as well, only having this be the 3rd game across 3 systems. They have a ton of franchises that they could dig into from the past as well. Go troll elsewhere.
I guess shad0wrunner is afraid of what happens when Nintendo releases all of those over used boring games.... maybe he is realizing the wiiu isnt dead. That must be an awesome nightmare for a fanboy. Words are powerful but monetary support says otherwise. Plus media islooking really out of touch, yet these "aarticles" are by fanboys. I hated cod too yet I have to admit I understand its draw.... it has nothing to do with graphics or story ethier... this proves how much people are clamoring for gameplay.
@Shad0wRunner So your saying that it would be better if Nintendo released all of those Mario games with a new name and character with the exact same gameplay and story and how is Smash Brothers overused its going on its fourth game when all of these other fighting games are going on 5 and 6 with Street Fighter 4 getting another release what is that the 3rd or 4th time and you really know nothing about gaming if you think Metroid is an overused franchise as for Nintendo being long overdue for releasing a new op you must have been living under a rock the past few years.
