What makes the GameCube so endearing?

Nintendo Insider writes:

If you look around Internet forums, Twitter or Facebook, you’ll see that there is still a lot of love for Nintendo’s purple box of joy. Yet these same Nintendo fans were not as taken with the Wii as they were with the GameCube. (GameCube, Nintendo)

First time i played the cube was at a kay-bee toys. they had a demo of rogue leader and i was blown away by how much fun it was.

From that moment i was sold. Luigi's mansion is still one of my favorite throwback games to play. Mario kart double dash...took some serious dedication to get that gold racer but i did it. Then one of my kids formatted my mem card :-(

Overall the cube is just a solid system.
