What happened to it being a commercial failure?
Prcko  +   396d ago
forget that :)

Hope with this sequel Square Enix can produce a Next-Gen Game-Engine that can cut cost for the next Tomb Raider, Deus Ex & Hitman.

I'm a big fan of tomb raider. I can't wait to see the next game. It'll be awesome, I'm sure.

not commercial failure, just a "sales projection failure".

Square Enix used too much money
Kenshin_BATT0USAI  +   396d ago
Rather, they expected way too much in return.

I loved it. Played it on PC. Hopefully they expand the use of TressFX because it made a world of difference graphically.
hiredhelp  +   396d ago
Yeh i love the 3D steroscopic on it when played PC. Now with steam trading cards cards i need to replay it. Her ass pops out the screen 😋

Playing in stereoscopic 3D with TressFX on made my framerate drop down into the 30s according to FRAPS. But it did look damn good.
SniperControl  +   391d ago
Didn't Tressfx just give her more life like hair?
I had to turn it off in the end, as her hair was doing stuff it should not have been doing.
JsonHenry  +   391d ago
^^You mean blowing in the wind? It was supposed to do that..

@JsonHenry

Erm no, wise ass.

The only thing that was a commcercial failure with that game/IP was their management skills and efficiency with their money.

If you need to sell 3 million to break even, as a standard game, then you've obviously mismanaged your money in multiple areas along the way over a multiple year period. = should be fire.

Don't spend $50 million on a game and 40$ of that goes into the graphics.

Put $40 million into the gameplay and $10 mil into the graphics. = You will sell more and be profitable.

Lol... This comment started off sound and then turned into a ball of non-sense at the end. You have no grasp on game development budgets. You think development is focused solely on spending 50 million in developing graphics and gameplay..?

Game development budget goes in 5 phases, pre production, production, Marketing, manufacturing distribution and post mortem draw down, generally after the game ships.

Games will get green lit with generally 20-40 million dollar development budget/marketing budget for multiplatform games. 20 Million generally covers development and the other 20 million is spent on marketing, manufacturing and distribution

Lmao at 40 million dollars on gameplay 10 million on graphics. -_-

3 million copies sold is not a commercial failure, its a success story. Just because it didn't reach 5 million copies doesn't mean its bad Square Enix!

maybe it was a translation misunderstanding..perhaps they meant "We had a commercial for this on TV that wasn't that good"

pabadamus1  +   396d ago
The reboot was enjoyable. I think we would all welcome a fully realized sequel.
Puppy_Farts  +   396d ago
WOW! YES! This was such a great game, good comeback for Lara. Happy to here a sequel is underwar.
optimus  +   396d ago
i'm not the least bit surprised; they actually hinted this in the unlockable in-game videos and the game got high marks across the board. it was an excellent game and there is bound to be 5-6 more no doubt. Lara is back.

I'd kill for a sequel to angel of darkness. Truth be told it was full of bugs but i thoroughly enjoyed the story and gameplay! And i want to know what happened to Kurtis!

TR was my goty for 2013 so far, I can't wait for another. But I hope this time they just forget the MP and focus on story. I'd rather have more of a thrilling story, than a tacked on mediocre MP any day.
pyramidshead  +   396d ago
Sounds good, combat was extremely satisfying. Especially getting those heads shots with the bow.
Blackcanary  +   396d ago
I haven't played yet are there any Tombs to Raid like in the old games and puzzles?
BLAKHOODe  +   396d ago
I loved Tomb Raider. The game went a little too long, but had some of the best action sequences I've ever played in a video game. So, I'm all for a next-gen sequel. Bring it on!
EXVirtual  +   396d ago
Square Enix, you are becoming badasses again. But after KH3 and FFXV sell badly on the XB1, just go exclusive to PS4 with those franchises. The western stuff should always go to the XB1
sourav93  +   396d ago
Really enjoyed the first game. It was one of those sleeper hits for me. I hope since the next gen consoles have AMD graphics chips in them, TressFX will be available for consoles; though hopefully it'll be more optimised than what it is now.
jmc8888  +   396d ago
TressFX works on Nvidia chips too.

Tomb Raider reboot is a fun game. Graphically it is gorgeous if you have a PC that can run it with TressFX and other eye candy turned on.

Hard to say how much of that needs to be turned down for the consoles as chips quite a bit more powerful than the upcoming consoles whimpered when asked to render it.
sourav93  +   394d ago
Well, though TressFX worked on Nvidia chips, the performance was very poor compared to an AMD card. My GTX 770 had the fps halved with TressFX on, whereas my friend's HD 7870 ran it fine. Though this was back when it released. Haven't tried it recently. Maybe they've optimised it more for Nvidia cards.
MrTrololo  +   396d ago
Awesome. Maybe this time make it open world.
greedybear88  +   395d ago
good idea
Master-H  +   396d ago
Good, i hope SquareEnix keep their expectations in check this time so they don't come out spouting that "It didn't sell enough" bulls**t after it sells like 3-4 millions , and we want more puzzles and tombs and less uncharted cinematic-type stuff, that's it. aw and please lose the multiplayer and add extra hours into singleplayer instead of it or something.
Crazay  +   396d ago
That's some seriously good news. I absolutely loved the last one and wax so easy for more that I started playing it immediately again.
Midgus  +   396d ago
glad to hear, really enjoyed the reboot
